you know, everything you say about needing to get out the extra energy to wear them out, makes sense and i would imagine ,that alone will help alleviate our own frustrations in the whole process. Thank you for the smart tips! I will be making sure to do more mental stimulation activities.

Do snuffle mats encourage dogs to dig in bushes or grass when they are outside? I have a "forager" who goes after anything that smells good, and in our apartment complex with open dumpsters there is often a lot of garbage and old food spread throughout the grounds. Would a snuffle mat inside at meal times make him worse outside?
I have a question, how many foster puppies would you recommend starting with? there is a family of 6 pit bull mixes at a local shelter, and we have such a problem with overbreeding of pitbulls in my area, so they are usually the first to have to be euthanized for space reasons, and I want to step in to help these puppies have a chance at life, but I just don't know if I should take the whole litter or split them up. I am leaning more towards taking all of them!!

My six month old lab mix pulls out the Felt pieces on snuggled mats and he has actually swallowed one. Any advice/ suggestions?
My puppy did this too. Can I ask how you’re introducing it and working with pup to get it going? I have a few different snuffle mats. Some are harder than others. Some have longer felt pieces like grass and others are shorter looped pieces which he struggles with. Are you sitting down with your dog and showing them how to get the treats out of them? I would even go as far as to spread the felt pieces apart. Eg. Lay the mat out, have it filled, get your dog to go and start on it. As soon as they start using their teeth to bite it, intervene. “Uh uh” and then spread apart the piece they’re biting on and say “get it” so they have easy access to the food. Some dogs just really need more help to figure it out. Mine would even pick the entire mat up and shake it (I guess he follows the “work harder; not smarter” mantra 😂😂). I’d stop him, “leave it”, “go find”. Lots of “yes!!!” When he’s using his nose, and a sharp but gentle “uh uh” when he’s being too rough, and help guide him in the appropriate way to use it.

We have a toy poodle that is 14 weeks old. He listens great to me, but only to me. He gnaws on my fiancé no matter what he does. He only listens when I tell him to be nice. Great question!! Gosh this would be an awesome video. Positive reinforcement is not always treats or food! It can be toys, praise, or even “access” to something they want. The key is to positively reward desired behavior. Example, there’s certain spots fin LOVES so sniff. But I don’t give him a sniff break until he’s calm and heels nicely!

My dog isn't food driven and toys never intrigue him enough to keep him busy. I'm really stuck and it's bordering rehoming. I'm pregnant and this behavior is too much for me to combat alone. I don't know what to do.
At least one dog trainer, Nate Schoemer, suggests lowering a dog’s food intake to make him/her more food motivated. A hungry dog is a motivated dog! I hope it works out for you

That's actually a thing. Like people hashtag it. Websites and fb pages for it. It's literally about saving dogs.
