This isn't my fave song, I dont watch music videos cause they ruin the song for me sometimes. But for the song, you sounded good before you said "so move me baby" it sounded like a terrible voice crack. But that may just be me. Btw love Work Song, All Things End, an Jackie and Wilson. They make me wiggle my toes ( - 3-)
This one is definitely up there ❤I like the video of you singing “to be alone” in the meadow a lot, too. Thanks for all you do

I have a crazy mad huge crush on Sergei's dancing. I cant't believe how talented he is, ever since his Royal Ballet days he has been the epitome of what art should be. It's so good to see him alongside with Hozier, nothing but respect to them.
I feel sad that Sergei became what he became! His attitudes are so different from the beauty of his art. Every time he opens his mouth we have to face something that dishonor the wonderful gift that was given to him!
Honey I LOVE this guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Him being a sexist, homofobic/transfobic person is the biggest “artistic” pain I’ve ever felt. With what he’s been through he could be such a huge person, yet he decided to say so much bullshit, I feel guilty because of what he gives me when I see him dancing (which could be his goal, but that doesn’t excuse anything he said).
That's exactly why I specifically typed "I have a huge crush on his DANCING", not him.

Armchair Physicist reminder that hateful people will burn in hell :)
@@armchairphysicist9067 The music video features a gay couple but the song itself is Hozier worshipping a woman basically. You must not have heard any of the lyrics.
For me it's clear this song is about the movements that a lover (who is about to leave you) causes in yourself, the dance seems a metaphor for the experience of being in love. He got two versions, one white and the other dark, as the decision of "should I stay or should I go?", the angel and the devil whispering in your ears. But just as we are astonished seeing him dancing, the narrator is as well, while watching his lover's departure movements

Erik Willms you should writ poetry
His family was very poor and they thought by sending him at a boarding school for dance that he could eventually make money for the family. He had a come to Jesus moment and realize this while he was dancing for the Royal Ballet - the top of the top - and had a mini meltdown and got a tattoo (a big no no in top ballet dancer). Then his dance company fired him and he ended up going on talent shows that are on TV in his home country even though he was well known and incredibly talented. That had to be so hard but he persevered. He was catapulted into worldwide fame when he danced to “take me to church”. I would search that on UA-cam because it’s incredible.

I can't describe it, but at about 2:47, when the choir starts singing, I feel like the human prison I'm trapped in is ripped away, revealing my iridescent soul, and I can finally be free enough to dance with the wind, and it feels like my tears can become star dust, and this new form is limitless, and my heart pounds from the depths of my soul, and I want to sing and raise my voice so loud the moon will hear it. It feels like what true, pure, love feels like. Not a soft, gentle love, but loud, adrenaline inducing, heart pounding, love that no man could ever truly give me. I love how his rage, his nihilism is portrayed as the active presence - his objectively 'good' self is passive, only a comment upon his tormented state, not interested enough to participate in the battle for his mind. At the start of the video it is his despair that begins the journey with him, his objective goodness that observes his downfall, but it is his rage that follows him closely, claws at his mind, sees his weakness and acts on it, with it, in it, every time.
It is that nihilistic rage that will push him off of that rooftop, his goodness that will observe it wordlessly, and his despair that will watch it happen, helpless, not knowing whether to be in anguish at the futility of it or at the realization that the rage, acting without comment from the good, may have been justified.
Love your comment! 💜

@@yoloswag6242 I do agree with the influential aspects (except not many people recognize the sheer talent Hozier has), but I don't think their music styles could cooperate well.
Here's my take: in the beginning, he is being moved by his inner demons--what he is trying to escape from. He literally spins out of control. Then, for a moment, he allows himself to be moved by hope, until he closes himself off to it in the elevator, feeling he is not worth it. In the white is his future self who knows what he had to go through. That is why he can't help. Hope runs after him to pull him back.
I think it’s a battle of self. The current him is trying to keep from choosing between his past self in white (very proper dancing, no tattoos) and the past self in black( representing his downward spiral when he was into drugs and pushing people away) all while his drugged self watches (dirty, fits, spaced out)

“When you move i moved” that line can be so threatening or so comforting. It reminds me of arsonists lullaby. “Never tame your demons, but always keep them on a leash.” The pain and the suffering. The peace and the love. The hurting and the healing. Your demons are there with you. Keeping you company in your own madness. You may ignore them but they remain. 2:46 feels like the fight. Am I letting the chaos take hold or am I going to settle for peace. Just blows my mind how these lyrics make me feel and think.
So glad that Hozier keeps releasing music! It's fine, it's completely fine if there's no one by your side as long as YOU are by your side. You don't need anyone to motivate you, YOU are more than enough to pick yourself up without needing anybody. Instead of waiting for someone to pick you up, let your own self be the one you are looking for.
Hozier is sacreligiously religious he conveys something I've never heard before, a sacred power in his voice conveyed perfectly with the music
Yes! He has a strong background in the church but has come away from it. Like, he still retains his love for God, he just doesn't do those restrictions the church imposes. I'm probably not making sense or wording this very eloquently. I totally agree with your point, and I absolutely love that about him. He's like wholesome, and a rebel. It's great!
Oh my god. You said it perfectly.
Why you theists always do this? He grown up on a religious bacground It's understandable that he critiques church. Critique isn't faith. He identify as agnistic NOT theist, be respectfull.
As polish grown up in very religious country (mostly that faith is showy but nontheless exist) I'm very openly critic about catholic church, and I'm strict atheist. Speaking about religion doesn't equal being religious in any sense. Stop that bullshit.
@@unknowngirl7758 I agree with your views, but I do have to say that I dont think this is what the original commenter meant. Sacrilege is "violation or misuse of what is regarded as sacred", so in the end I think those words describe Hozier perfectly. A sort of untamed, spiritual beat that does not abide by religion, and might even mock it from time to time.
You sir, are spot on. 👊
I didn't want this to end, Hozier for the ears and Sergei for the eyes. What more could one ask for?
👌🏻
Sergei is such a beautiful dancer. I feel like this piece was so him because. I feel like he is actually fighting with himself and battling his own emotions and his mental stability
This! I feel like I can almost touch his anger when his dark self dances at 3:30
I thought it was Hozier because he can change character so easily! The gentleman dancing is very talented!
So happy he's back. this man's music gives me life
Mbali Mthembu same 🖤
Facts
His music is incredible. I was kinda sad he didnt release more albums for so long, but this comeback...
I completely agree.
Me too
Hozier's voice and Sergei Polunin's dancing together touches my very soul. They're spectacular!
the “atlas in his sleepin” part, he actually does the atlas “carrying the world on his shoulders” pose 1:32
Brenda Freitas I noticed that too
Brilliant
Good eye!!
That’s always been my favourite part. To the point where I can’t even listen to that part without thinking about atlas
It's almost like we can interpret this dance!
Never knew this song. Its now being used by Kia, in an ad in the Netherlands. This song catches me. The video is actually the perfect visualization. I love this. The struggle, the duel, the conflict, passion, it has it all.
Omg erik, same here as weve got the kia ad on telly uk and i was blown away when i first heard it,then its taken me sooo long to try find out what it was and tonight i just thought oh sod this and googled in..move me, and i couldnt believe it when it came up straight away.I was flabbergasted.Anyway this is the song you need to hear when your in love,in lust,in deep..it proper moves me so much and im on cloud 9 now i can listen to it full blast, long and loud..cheers, denise.uk..
Haha the Kia ad is what brought me here
Saw the Kia advert yesterday (March 2023) and immediately found this song!
Ik ben hier door kia 😂
when I first listened to the song I thought "I've heard this somewhere on the tv!" And trying to remember what commercial was it became an obsession. Thanks to you I've finally found it
When people invented the phrase "poetry in motion", they had this in mind.
lol nah they had some good-ass lyrical rappers in mind

This has got to be one of the finest music videos ever made.
After watching it a couple of hundred times, I can confidently state that it is an excellent combination of music, story and dance.
I must say, I absolutely love this song but I don't at all get the music video. I just had something totally different in my mind. Of course art can be interpreted in many different ways. What does this music video say to you? Just honestly curious since you really like the video.
@@sdscott6202 What a nice comment by you. Thank you.
Its hard to put into words but the different characters of Sergei seem to make up the "total man?" Sometimes when I listen, I think Hozier is singing to a woman, and sometimes I think he is expressing his respect/love for beautiful movement, which Polunin certainly embodies for me. I guess its mostly just a feeling I get when I watch the video.
100%
I just love the fact that Hozier even mentions Sergei Polunin in his lyrics! "You're less Polunin leaping or Fred Astaire in sequins, honey..." This is just the most amazing collaboration ever. Two artists, one soul.
I think it's Fred Astaire in sequence, as in a sequence of dance moves. Fred Astaire isn't very well known for shiny outfits. Though you are right, this is the most magnificent collab.
@@chrizeldabernil8323 That's what I thought, too, but apparently the official lyrics say sequins.
@@billiey36 It doesn't make much sense... Maybe it was overlooked? All the images in google of Fred Astaire and not one in a shiny outfit let alone sequins.
@@chrizeldabernil8323 I don't agree with several of the "official" lyrics in other songs as well. I wish he'd release a cd or something with the lyrics included.
@@billiey36 Which ones?
This song is gonna be on repeat till the end of 2018, maybe even till the end of 2020.
I've just listened and watched it seven times in a row.
I’d say 2030 tbh
😂😂
My cover is here : ua-cam.com/video/U_4iWm4eEwg/v-deo.html :) tell me what you think about it
Not 2020, 20020.
Multiple dancing Sergei Polunins, in a state of half-undress: I've died and gone to heaven. And the song, and the singing, are just awesome.
2:45 always goosebumps... the Dance performance + the incredible music... just perfection
I don't know if it's because you suggested it but I tapped your time stamp and got goosies from head to toe! Thanks for doing that 😊

This past week, I tried to take my own life because of a long line of depression and sadness. After waking up in the hospital, angry that I was still alive and mad at my (amazing and supportive) family for even being by my bedside, this song began to play in my head. So clear and so loud. As if it were playing right in the room in the background of my mom and sister talking. I thought to myself about how thankful I was to be alive to hear such beautiful music in a time of need. Truly the voice of an angel to to encourage me to move through this rough time. Hozier, you’re truly an angel.
Stay strong❤
Yoire brave; and i really hope within the past 7 months everythings been okay. Time can help heal the worst of wounds x
I hope you’re doing better this year ♥️
I hope you’re healing lately and that you know how loved and special you are 💙💙
You never know what greatness you might miss if you leave too soon.
Love this song, but it's watching Sergei dance that does it for me. Watching him dance is so hypotonzing and relaxing.
Hozier: "you're less Polunin leapin'"
literally has Polunin leaping in the video
I really thought, for real, that both of the dancers in this video were Andrew Hozier. for real.
in my defense, they were both wearing the same clothes. #Twinning

@@hannahseling1513 I did Google it. Everything I found either had blatantly wrong lyrics (didn't even get the name right), or said LESS.
This song as well as the video just oozes sensuality. I've said this on two other videos of his songs, but Hozier's a combination of the Celtic bards of old as well as the reincarnation of Orpheus. His talent is of an otherworldly quality and he's certainly one of the most unique musicians/poets we have today.
Most Unique but underrated 😔
Well, he IS Irish
DnD agrees with you.
If you have something to say but you have no words.. Dance!!!
Excellent take.
[Verse 1]
I still watch you when you're groovin'
As if through water from the bottom of a pool
You're movin' without movin'
And when you move, I'm moved
You are a call to motion
There, all of you a verb in perfect view
Like Jonah on the ocean
When you move, I'm moved
[Pre-Chorus]
When you move
I'm put to mind of all that I wanna be
When you move
I could never define all that you are to me
[Chorus]
So move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
[Verse 2]
You are the rite of movement
Its reasonin' made lucid and cool
I know it's no improvement
When you move, I move
You're less Polunin leapin'
Or Fred Astaire in sequins
Honey, you, you're Atlas in his sleepin'
And when you move, I'm moved
[Pre-Chorus]
When you move
I can recall somethin' that's gone from me
When you move
Honey, I'm put in awe of somethin' so flawed and free
[Chorus]
So move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
So move me, baby
Like you've nothin' left to prove
And nothin' to lose
Move me, baby
[Bridge]
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Oh baby, oh baby
Move like grey skies
Move like a bird of paradise
Move like an odd sight come out at night
[Chorus]
Move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
So move me, baby
Like you've nothin' left to lose
And nothin' to prove
Move me, baby
So move me, baby
Shake like the bough of a willow tree
You do it naturally
Move me, baby
Hozier's voice combined with Polunin's dance touch a string of my soul I didn't even know existed. I don't know what's happening here but I just feel something deep inside that makes me rewatch this masterpiece again and again.
Perfect marriage of sound and image, just in awe of the beauty of both song and dance.
The best combination: Hozier singer and Polunin dancer....
I love how Pulonin is even mentioned in the lyrics. Like these two artists have an entwined journey and I think they owe a lot to each other
what I love about this is that the messy is the point. he's falling, getting back up, learning, changing... occasionally in sync with his better nature, and occasionally in sync with his darker impulses but ALWAYS moving. There is no good vs evil here, it's a constant flow of existence, a constant flux of complex movement and emotion. That triple jump EVERYTHING. I realize it's just the one guy but the way it matches (including the darker one trying and falling) is PERFECTION.
His dark self's movement at 3:29 is so ridiculously beautiful and raw
CosmicHoot omg thanks for pointing this out
I thought I was the only one who saw it. This video, the lyrics is a song that the heart sings, to itself
I love how this video is about fighting with yourself. Battling the inner demons, always trying to break free and finding that "good" within us. Somewhere I think it portrays that one can never truly rid themselves of the darkness within, rather one can have those moments of serenity, where the good overpowers the bad. I think while we're always trying to run away from our darkest selves, in the end it becomes a question of whether we will run till we die, or like Sergei stopped in the end, we can too stop and accept who we are. Accept our whole selves, even the bad.
Wow this 💯
This.
On point
The dancer is running from himself. Through dancing, he can become whoever he wants. He can be in his head and pretend.
This video is absolutely stunning. Brilliant.

Sergei is amazing. Putting what so many of us feel into movement. He just makes sense of life's challenges. 🌟
Sua sfida Sergej ha perso perché ha scelto la parte sbagliata. Ha scelto putin e sua guerra sanguinosa
imagine deciding against retiring due almost solely to the positive feedback you got from dancing to a hozier song AND THEN BEING IN A HOZIER MUSIC VIDEO this is actually the coolest thing in the world i love hozier and i love sergei so this is amazing
yo my dudes... I know youtube is for simple stuff BUT: anyone else listened to this and just felt a wave of emotion. Honestly Im a sensitive guy but I was listening to this in my headphones and I pretty much broke out into random movement. This man is a magician...
*I remember seeing Sergei for the first time in Take Me To Church and honest to God, I was so mesmerized by how he moved his body, that I couldn't stop myself from seeing all of his ballet dances. This one is no different. What an insanely talented dude and this accurately describes why we shouldn't limit boys or girls from choosing untraditional routes because if Sergei's parents had said when he was 5, "You're a boy and boys don't dance." The world would have been deprived of the masterpiece he is. Much love to Hozier and Sergei.*

Sergei Polunin went from dancing to one of his songs to being in his music video, dancing to another song, and being MENTIONED in the song we love that for him
Sergei Polunin is famous Ukrainian dancer, we proud of him!!!!!!!!!!! With love from Ukraine
I saw him first when he made a video for take me to church.
Astonishing movement and character.

After the video of Sergei dancing "Take me to Church".. I sadly thought it was just one time and I wouldn’t be moved again by Sergei and Hozier.. Oh boy, how happy I am to see this.. the song is amazing and Sergei is superb as always.. Polunin moves me, and he projects such emotion.. He is pure talent.. (acting included). Hozier has the most deep and profound lyrics and vocals combined that produce such an intense sensual experience, it’s hard not to laugh or cry listening to his music..

Take me to church was a very disrespectful and hateful song, but it was still good song
@@donnybarns Perhaps a bit disrespectful from a perspective, but it was because of the hate of the Catholic church and damage it does to people born a certain way and mistreated. If you look at it as if you were the one who was damaged by the ...I hate to use doctrine, by the policy that those who love how God created them to are evil. It's anti-Hate and actually calls for respect. I'm neither Catholic nor Gay, so it didn't effect me, but I have to say I'm on Hozier's side on this, even if my own church disagrees.
