I 1000% agree with her on this. I listen to songs mainly for the melody and production. Some of my favorite songs to this day I couldn't lyrically sing the entire song straight through.

I'm not a musician, but I can sing and I've written some songs and that's how I write. I always start with the melody and then write my versus around that...it's easier that way. But I feel like most people do that.
This is also how I compose music. The hardest part tho is the instrumental. You need to keep everything in organized bop sequence. And every detail needs every pressure. Like when you do drum or use a synth pad or do you wanna use piano to be more expressive or you wanna add it with a violin or saxophone or smthng. But kudos to all music producers. Its a hard job also.
Posit this against songs like Stairway to heaven by Led Zeppelin or the works of Bob Dylan, or hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. Songs that feel so intimate and personal. these modern kind of pop songs lack that personal touch that makes

I write all my lyrics first. I have extreme admiration for people that can come up with melodies first. I have so many potential songs just waiting to have melody put to them. I only have one song that the melody came out first, and it ended up being a song about the love my dog has for me. I sang it from her point of view while she was lovingly and patiently watching me play my ukulele 🥹
For me it depends. Yes a lot of my songs I just hum the melody along with my guitar, then write lyrics to that melody and rhythm. But a lot of my songs I actually do the lyrics first, then strum out the melody on my guitar. Cuz melodies can hit you if you're trying to make one, but lyrics can hit you anywhere, at any time. I usually will write the lyrics to the rhythm of an already made song, then write the chords/melodies after.
You should research about how RM and SUGA from BTS write their songs. Its a suggestion cause it would be really interesting for people to discover his pure genius.

This is really cool, but often this can be abused to such a point that the only thing that carries the song is the melody, and the lyrics are completely neglected. In such cases, it often becomes annoying and irritating to listen to songs like these because there is no freshness to seek in the lyrical art and such songs are forgotten as quickly as they become hits, for example "All about that Bass". Melody is important, it is the song's DNA, but poetic meaning in lyrical songs is just as vital. There should be something of value that needs to be said.
I remember writing a song while dreaming 😂 I kept reminding myself not to forget it. It's funny how I would come up with melodies while doing dishes, laundry, or taking a bath. Sometimes...while sitting on the toilet 😂
If you had taken a music class like in HS, you knew that making a song starts with melody. I don't understand what's unique about it. Melody comes, followed by the chord. Lyrics came after. If the lyrics is bad, the melody will be altered later.

She's known to have collabed with so many musicians, and that's truly commendable. To be honest, I also love listening to catchy songs. If you had taken a music class like in HS, you knew that making a song starts with melody. I don't understand what's unique about it. Melody comes, followed by the chord. Lyrics came after. If the lyrics is bad, the melody will be altered later.
