- Fitting HF antennas into small gardens can be a real problem. Linear loading is one answer to the problem. Here, Peter G3OJV, explains one simple method of reducing your antenna size with the minimal amount of performance lo450 Ohm Ladder Line

I have studied and used antennas for decades and I have never seen this! Looking forward to doing some experiments with my newfound knowledge. Thank you very much!
Please do! 73 Peter
this is one smart guy, easy to listen to with no crazy music in the background and a lot of good common sense is presented in all his videos
Many thanks.
Good information, easy to listen to and no crazy loud music in the background this is a smart guy
I appreciate that!
And now I have a much better understanding of Q. Simply superb Peter! And the timing of this series is great as I'm looking at putting in a piece of lawn sculpture since my HOA doesn't allow antennas. ; )
Excellent!
Thanks Peter this was awesome! I built a variant of antennas you showcased on this channel. I made sure to mention your channel as a resource in the video I made, as it has been very helpful to me. 73 de VK2 AOE, worked spain on it the day after it went up in my modest suburban plot.
I built a linear loaded dipole using #12 wire and pieces of PVC pipe as spacers. I set mine up as a doublet, feeding it with twinlead and a balun into an autotuner. Haven't been active recently, but hope to be on the air more soon. One thing I did notice is this antenna is quieter than in endfed.
Interesting
Love this one Peter, I’m looking at a linear loaded doublet for my next project
Go for it
Linear Loading an antenna is something that I have never even thought about in nearly 50 years of hamming. How did that get past me. Thank you for the great introduction and explanation. 73, K1QS
Glad to help. Try it. 73 Peter
Excellent video I have forgotten this. Will those discounts apply to orders from the former colonies, across the pond? We need a way for those of us here to support your channel. Always excellent, information!!
Another great vid. Thanks Peter
I have a linearly loaded 2 element beams for 10 and 20 in my attic along the side A frame braces. Had to make the length on 20m 21 feet long. Added advantage being angled like an Inverted V, it was multi directional.
Shame you cannot rotate it! But good isea.
Great advice! Thank you
Did not know that yet, thank you
Thank you. Good information. Needed for my small yard (garden). N0QFT
Thanks for info peter 👍
No problem 👍
Thanks Peter for a detailed explanation of this antenna idea. Great video. KC8WVG 73's
You are welcome!
any rough dimensions of one for 80m doublet?
I'm wondering how well linear loading would work for a G5RV system. Seems like it would do nicely for the dipole elements, but would it? And how would that affect the length of matching 450 Ohm section?
It will work and the matching line will be the same. However, the overall length of wire element needs to be increased to compensate for the fold back.
For a "change of pace" it would be interesting I think of you would do a video about how you got into the radio business and your life in general. Borrowing from the old Honda motorcycle ad campaign: "You meet the NICEST PEOPLE in Amateur Radio." All the Best! 73 DE W8LV BILL
Great suggestion! Sill give it some thought.
It is a pity that the UK is no longer member of the EU. Ham stuff is more expensive due to import tax.
Maybe I should try something broadly similar for a doublet....
Yes it works with many wire antenna types.
@@watersstanton Yes Peter, a lot of ideas to play with, way back my parents had a 160m friendly garden, fun for radio miserable for lawnmowing...
Many Thanks ! This is a top tip for me :) G5YAX
Glad it was helpful!
