This mod has been so much fun. Not only b/c of what IT IS, but what it shows what can be done with MWSE. Thanks DEG, and the talent of Merlord, and the MW Modding Community!
When forced to pick between "Do I want to have a hunger/thirst/stamina system in the game so I can sit around in the rain on the Bitter Coast, burning my dinner" and "Do I want my mage to become a lich", I picked the former. Probably says everything you need to know.
Basically it is, “survivor mod” but for morrowind. I loved it Which I had to say that morrowind even though of out-worldly beauty , it’s indeed one of the most dangerous places in tamriel.
I love how the mod dynamically replaces in game fireplaces with ones from the mod like for example I went into an ashlander tent killed them and there was a fireplace with a pot of stew on supports on the campfire in the tent but the game then crashed so I rebooted the game went in there again and that time it was instead a kettle with tea in it.
It's obviously an impressive achievement and well thought out. However, I'm not sure it's for me. I tend to find needs mechanics tedious. When I played Oblivion as a Vampire, I couldn't even be bothered to suck people's blood to make myself immune to sun damage for the day. Still, I will probably give this one a go on my next playthrough, whenever that may be. Perhaps it can change my mind. What's the default setting for how frequently you need to rest/drink/eat?
I know exactly what you mean, I love survival mods but I found so many survival mods to be tedious and heavy on micromanagement. With Ashfall, it's not difficult to manage your needs, but it is actually fun. You could just buy a bunch of bread and not really have to worry about your hunger, but the cooking mechanics are so fun you'll go out of your way to set up camp and grill up some hound meat instead. The MCM also has plenty of options to reduce the rate of hunger/thirst/tiredness etc if you really don't want to worry about it.
@@ashfall9937 Hey, thanks for the elaboration, that does sound good. Will definitely check it out the next time I get around to playing Morrowind to make up my mind!
Incredible that we have something like this now. Does this mod allow you to add in your own custom clothing mods and have them respond to weather as well?
I'm always leary of complicated survival mods as I feel they take the survival aspect too far for my liking or not in an organic natural way (with the game design, mechanics or aesthetic wise). But this mod review makes me want to give Ashfall a try.
Sounds pretty great. ...Honestly, if I weren't on OpenMW (and thus currently unable to use LUA mods), I think I'd use this but toggle off the hunger/thirst requirements, and use NOM for those still. I like NOM a lot -- too much to give it up. The food shops are a fantastic and necessary addition to the world, and the cooking mechanics are very immersive. But this also seems fantastic. Having different armor sets be better or worse for different sorts of weather is something I've wanted to see for a while. Would be great if armor also affected wetness from rain, which doesn't appear to be a feature, though. Chitin would slow down how quickly you become wet and make you dry off faster, and fur armor would speed up getting wet and slow down drying. ...Maybe when LUA is available on OpenMW, I should try making some sort of armor effects mod.
@@jemolk8945 One thing I forgot is that Ashfall water bottles can't be used to cook NoM food, and I'm pretty sure Ashfall scripting supersedes the NoM water source scripting, so you would need the console to get NoM water once you've used up the pre-placed filled bottles from NoM. Merchant inventories could also be edited to include NoM water, but filled NoM bottles are Misc Items, and publicans don't sell Misc Items, so you couldn't get the water in taverns.
@@ProfArmitage218 Good to know! If it came down to it, I might just make a patch for the two mods that made NOM food able to use Ashfall water. OMWADDONs can be dependent on ESPs, after all, and as I said, I won't be able to do anything with this until it's available on OpenMW anyway. (I game on Linux.)
@@jemolk8945 I don't think that Ashfall water exists as a distinct object. It's vanilla bottles, jugs, cups, etc. with water "attached" to them with lua.
Dam looks super badass!! Would be cool to see some envirments created specifical for a LONG HARD daunting journey that you have to prep for very well to survive! Would be super cool to see added in using ashfall, think i am going to make a mini map like this! Combine this with TESMP OPEN Morrowind multiplayer HELL YEA! Thanks for the share!
I wish there werent any dialogue options on pickup or dropping. Should be regulated by pickup when sneaking or Shift+Use or something. Otherwise fantastic mod. Ill try it out!
I just downloaded The Bare Necessities mod, do you think that this mod would be better than that one? It definitely sounds like it, I just want your opinion. I do know that this mod is a lot newer than the other one is. Awesome video by the way! I just found your channel a few months ago, and I'm loving your content. You put a lot of effort into your videos and I appreciate that you still make videos on Morrowind, even after all of these years. 😁👍
It really depends on what you're looking for, The Bare Necessities has a slightly different set of features to AshFall, and if you're using OpenMW, some combination of Frostwind (AshFall's predecessor) and Racerplume's mods might actually be a better choice (since both AshFall and The Bare Necessities are MWSE mods and will almost certainly not work with OpenMW, at least not until OpenMW supports Lua scripting, which is actually in the works I think). I'd recommend checking out Danae's Survival Mod Guide here for a full list of pros and cons of Morrowind's various survival and needs mods to help find the best ones for you: danaeplays.thenet.sk/survival-mods/ Anyway, glad you like the channel! Hope that guide can help you figure out which necessities/survival mods you might want! :)

Man I loved Frostfall in skyrim. But alas, my current Morrowind modding setup is being done with OpenMW so I will not be able to partake in the fun with this one.
I've never been so excited for something offering me the chance to die of hunger or dysentery.

Is this the 10k sub special? you're so close!
It wasn't really intended as such, but we are really close, if we actually hit 10k today, I'd call that a happy coincidence!

Btw how does warmth works for Nords? or characters that has 100 resist frost? or does it not count for the cold weather?
Nords have a natural resistance to cold weather due to their frost resistance. Likewise, Dunmer are resistant to hot weather.

I've played Ashfall, and to me it feels really unobtrusive tbh. A lot of features, but all seem almost like a natural part of the game

Ashfall recognizes all of the food from NOM, so if you disabled the needs scripts from NOM, everything else in the mod could be used with Ashfall.
