    "I hope you didn't click on this video to see someone who knows what they're doing..." Love it. I should start all my stuff that way :) Love to see you trying this, it's always something I've wanted to learn to do myself. Excited to see you learn this and if you decide to make some kind of go-kart.

      Hey mate!! I’m really happy you liked it! It’s something I’ve wanted to try and learn for ages! Haha I feel like half the things I do, I have no idea what I’m doing 😂
      Making a go-Kart would be such a sick idea!! I might have to look into it!!

    Hey Kyle - full points for having a crack mate. Engineer here: That steel tube looks galvanised. Gal is very dangerous to weld. The zinc oxide fumes can give you metal fume fever (Google it - can make you quite sick) and there's a small amount of lead in gal as well, and the fumes from that are carcinogenic - so there's that. Grind the gal off before welding (just go back about 20mm from the joints). Or you can burn the gal off in vinegar for 24-48 hours.
    On the spatter - excessive spatter and poor quality welds with gasless MIG are usually the result of having the polarity wrong. For gasless, the torch has to be NEGATIVE and the work clamp has to be POSITIVE. If you get this wrong: Endless spatter.

      @AutoExpertJC Hey John, perspective wannabe welder and studying engineer. The funniest thing about your comment is that when I first seen that SHS steel came out I though to myself that's galvanised John said no to unprepared gal and here you are. A testament to your great work in fabrication safety education.

      @autoExtertJC When i was reading this and saw the name my brain just read it with your signature voice tone over it with a almost sarcastic overtone on the toxic parts! Thought of that vid about your welding tips and biggers lol Could'nt help but smile! Im also starting welding myself and only just put my first few beads with a Stick\Arc welder down today.Getting it to arc is def harder than i thought, Mind you im using an old transarc easy weld, easyweld my ass . Been wanting to weld for years and have all the gear now but been watching a lot of videos on how to weld, Prep, dangers, projects and different rods, Welding types etc.. prob every day for a month now and not rushing into it. Been wanting to do it for years! Love your vids too mate! Cheers from sunny qld!

    Thanks for the 'real world' welding video. I'm sick of 'beginners' videos doing perfect welds. Respect man!

    Love the video man, noone wants to fail on youtube and its refreshing to see an actual beginner try to weld.

    That was awesome mate, you had me cracking up. I only recently bought a Unimig Viper 185 and have been doing a lot of dialing in on the voltage and wire feed speeds with a heap of different thickness plates.
    As far as spatter goes flux core usually gives off a bit but it’s also worse on gal coated metal. That box tube looked like gal coated.
    Flux core works fine with gal coated but was told by a welder to grind it off to get better welds.
    Anyhow check out a lot of the UA-cam channels as they have helped me so much. TimWelds was a good one as well as “Welding tips and tricks” with a bloke named Jodie.
    Anyhow thanks for the laugh mate 👍😀

      Hey mate! Thanks so much for the kind words and for checking out the video! I’ll definitely have to check out the timwelds channel! I’ve been binge watching a heap of UA-cam content about welding to try and Learn more, and I have to say with some practice I’ve definitely been improving haha. Thanks again for the comment and welcome to the team! 😄🤙🏻

    My welds were exactly the same when I started lol but gradually getting better at it. As a sparky it’s all pretty foreign to me but I’m enjoying the learning curve.
    It definitely feels like a skill that needs a lot of practice and kudos to all the professional welders out there as it definitely feels like an art.

    Hey Kyle...you have the exact setup I want. The Unimig Viper 120 gets rave reviews and perfect for the novice like me. I'm like you...excited and scared at the same time. I'm getting a mate who knows how to weld to come and teach me. I would have liked to have heard a bit more on the welding accessories...the helmet...the work table...gloves...and mask for breathing protection. I've read some scary comments on toxic fumes....gotta be careful on that one! From all my research, I think your main problem was the angle of your tip and duration of contact but practice will fix that. Thanks for posting and being so candid and good editing too.

    Before doing corners just to some straight lines on a piece of metal that 5mil you had there I learnt how to weld at tafe many years a go and that how they start you out. Get the voltage speed and angle right first. Straight lines is the key thick non flammable clothing too or you will get sunburnt if you don't :) A mate got sunburt balls (thin pants true story) You got this dude its not rocket surgery :)

    I took welding classes in high school, it’s quite fun once you get the hang of it. Make sure to use your welding mask and save your eyes, arc flashing yourself can suck haha

      Thanks dude! I tried to make this one a little “ less formal” if that makes sense haha. What did you think of this style? Was it entertaining? Or do you think there’s things I could change?

    As soon as I finished work I raced to the channel to check this video out haha I’ve never wanted to watch something so bad 🤣 I think some of the welds don’t look that bad. You will get better with practice. You had me cracking up when you said the hole looked like a portal to another dimension 😂 Another great vid

      Dude! That means a tonne! I’m really happy you liked it! What did you think of this more “casual” style? Was it easy to watch, or did you start to loose interest a bit? I’m really wanting to evolve the videos into something you guys enjoy watching! And thank you for the compliment on my welds 😂 I really needed that boost hahaha

    • @drex5436
      @drex5436 Рік тому +1

      I loved the casual vibe. It was great to see you goofing off & just being urself. This video definitely felt different but in a good way. It was really nice to see you try to do something you haven’t done before and the fact that u were comfortable filming it for us to see even when you felt like u hadn’t done a good job (which I think u didn’t actually do that bad apart from a few spots)

    How much was the cost of the setup? Im assuming you can change wire feed speed

    • @KyleSpoor
      @KyleSpoor  Рік тому

      Hey dude! The whole welding pack was on $320 AUD and that came with the welder, a helmet, gloves, gasless wire and a little toolkit with extra tips and pliers 😄. It’s a pretty simplified welder so it only has 1 knob that you change depending on thickness of metal. So it auto changes wire feed speed and amperage!
