NUTTY NOAHS TROUBLED WATERS Full Series
DOCUMENTARY OF CORNISH FISHERMAN TO STAY AFLOAT IS RECEIVING CULT ATTRACTION. FILM MAKER JED TREWIN HAS FORMED A CLOSE BOND WITH FISHERMAN MARTIN ELLIS WHO HE HAS KNOWN SINCE SCHOOL DAYS. JED KNOWS FIRST HAND WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE IN A SINKING BOAT, SO HIS DELICATE TREATMENT OF MARTINS BITTER SWEET STORY- IS UNDERSTANDABLE. PRIOR SHOWINGS OF THE FILM ‘ TROUBLED WATERS ’ HAS PLAYED TO PACKED HOUSES.
Cornwall cannot be said to have a huge film and TV infrastructure, but the Cornish can certainly tell a good yarn. My own film favourite is Troubled Waters by Jed Trewin, the powerful story of the plight of Cornish fisherman made with real heart and soul (Vertigo magazine
Alex Usborne MBE at Picture Palace North and 104 Films Ltd).
WEST BRITON-“ CENTRE SCREENS CORNISH FILMS”
A COMPELLING AND TRUE STORY ABOUT MARTIN ELLIS, A CADGWITH FISHERMAN WHO LOST HIS BOAT AT SEA FOLLOWING HIS ATTEMPTS TO REVIVE THE PILCHARD FISHERY AND HIS SUBSEQUENT STRUGGLES TO STAY FISHING. FILMED OVER THREE YEARS, IT WAS SHOWN AT THE ACORN CINEMA IN PENZANCE AND FALMOUTH COLLEGE OF ARTS TO FULL
    HOUSES
PACKET “DOCUMENTARY FILM ABOUT FISHERMAN WORTH SEEING”
THE HIGHS AND MORE OFTEN THE LOWS OF ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS PROFESSIONS IN THE WORLD WERE SUMMED UP IN A COMPELLING DOCUMENTARY SHOWN TO A CAPACITY AUDIENCE AT FALMOUTH COLLEGE.
THE INFECTIOUS NATURE OF MARTINS OPTIMISM TURNED WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A DEPRESSING TALE OF WOE INTO A STRANGELY UPLIFTING STORY OF PERSISTENCE IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY.
WESTERN MORNING NEWS- “FESTIVAL FILM RELATES TO TALE OF SINKING BOAT”
CORNISH WORLD - “CORNWALL FINDS A NEW HERO”
TROUBLED WATERS TAKES THE FORM OF THE BEST VIDEO DIARY YOU ’ VE EVER SEEN IT IS SO WELL DONE IT STOPS BEING A FILM, AN EXAMPLE OF A MEDIUM, AND BECOMES SIMPLY A STORY
FISHING NEWS - “CAPTURED BY EX SKIPPER FILM MAKER”
. TROUBLED WATERS IS NOT A DOCUMENTARY SOLELY ABOUT THE TECHNICAL NATURE OF FISHING AND NOR IS IT A DRAMA ABOUT THE PLIGHT OF FISHERMAN, BUT A WONDERFUL COCKTAIL OF BOTH, WITH RAW TRUTH AS ITS BACKBONE.

Just stumbled across this......and having rewatched the recent fishing documentaries about Cornwall fisheries, Martin was clearly a man ahead of his time.....now of course "Cornish Sardines" command much higher prices and are all the rage, and fishing for them is a very competitive business......thoroughly entertaining.....and Jed too was clearly way ahead of the youtube generation with such a good humoured but honest presentation of the harsh life of professional fishing/ flyonthewall film of a genuine Cornishman and his beautiful supportive wife and family......so glad I came across your channel......

Such a lovely thing to be able to show our children video footage of their dad, fishing with nutty Noah. 20 odd years later, feels like just yesterday, I was 14 and he was going off to sea, now we are married and have 4 beautiful children. (I bought the vhs at the premiere 🤣) This is pure “old school Cornish culture” it’s a little piece of history…our history. And Martin is an absolute legend. its so important to have this to cherish these memories as our local fishing industry will never be the same 🥺❤️

Excellent documentary, way ahead of its time really. Tells it like it is, unique Cornish humour and all 🤣. One of the best I've ever watched about fishing community. Must be your own close friendship with Martin and his family that brought out the human element in a way upcountry filmmakers could never do. [Sorry to learn from your comment on another post that he and Sally are no longer together.]

I'm a half way round the planet, on the N.W. coast of America, and as a fisherman, I feel this man's pain. The sea, as are the banks, are both unforgiving.
I just sunk my life's savings into a hand troller, and her loss at sea would be devastating. But this is how the life of a fisherman is...

Transporting myself back to 1970/71. I used to go everywhere with my dad and his company every holiday going along with a hell of a lot of weekends. Anyway My dad was working on a job at Conwy, decorating inside and out the 'Liverpool Arms'. ( 50 yards away from the Smallest House in Great Britain) I used to wander round the area I was at did my own thing but always back in time for the lift home. Anyhoo...The harbour at Conwy. I was awestruck of the whole thing. These boats coming in. Just 25 yards away from where my dads company was working and I just loved it. Anyway...I wrangled myself in helping out on the dock area with the boatsand loading up vans with fish and shellfish ....I loved it.13/14 years of age....in an era where kids were able to be kids.... I got 5 shillings - 15 shillings every Saturday or Sunday from the boats I helped out with I used to cycle just under 8 miles to get there on the weekend... rain or hail.(5 bob or 15 bob)( A HUGE amount of money) in maybe 2 bob from one boat. Half a crown from another..2 bob.. from another, shilling from someone else. Couldn't give a damn. I loved it. Money wasnt a 'thing' ..Also worked at Woolworths in Colwyn Bay after school each week day which was more cash!...But anyway I digress.
Going back to the docks... i loved this place, it slowly started getting slower. Less ships going out especially into the Atlantic for cod as Europe started moving in due to EU crap and regulations. I think Conwy probably died a death with seeing itself as a fishing port by around 1978 or so. ( I was still living in the area but Uni changed stuff) Just as I was probably leaving the area. I'm just giving my experience of the fishing industry. it's a droplet in the ocean as to how and what ALL the captains of boats have had to go through regarding the sleepless nights of worry...through not catching and when you do, the prices are kaput, countless days away from home one bloody wave and you are probably fecked... all the variables.. yet...who actually gives a flying **** about fishermen? Your Government doesn't
A Brexit lie... Fishermen are still knackered after all the promises.
