Wow. That was truly thought provoking and very well done. As a veteran, it is a subject near and dear to my heart. I think it painted a pretty good picture of the divide in this country and probably in other countries with similar types of governments. As an old guy I've watched our political culture evolve over many decades and through the years I have voted more than once for each category of democrat, independent and republican, unlike some who are blindly loyal to their party. During that time I've concluded without a doubt, the following: 1. Our government outgrew the "Limited Government" concept of our Founding Fathers long ago. It has infiltrated deeper and deeper to control more and more of our daily lives. 2. When I was young, I watched as family members and friends had passionate disagreements about their liberal vs conservative views, but they almost always seemed to be able to find some compromise and remained loyal to each other as family or friends. But back then each side had similar or identical goals with different ideas on how to reach them. Today, the two major parties have opposing sets of goals on major issues, so there is no room for compromise. 3. Regardless of party, the lack of term limits has ensured the words and actions of elected officials are all about power (control) and money and not what's always best for the country. 4. "News" programs, talk shows and social media have partnered with political parties to divide us by race, politics, sex, religion, income and oppressors vs the oppressed by editing videos or interviews to favor their party while mocking the other side and exaggerating or lying about the facts. Their ratings depend on convincing the gullible public to take their word as indisputable fact and to keep tuning in for the latest. Unfortunately, too many people never bother to challenge their propaganda and they accept whatever is presented as long as it is in agreement with their own personal political leanings. 5. Our country is so evenly and staunchly divided that I am not optimistic about our future over the next 2 decades. 6. If we had maintained the concept of a limited government, we likely would not be so sharply divided. In the meantime, I'll continue to be authentic and loyal to my own ideologies while accepting the fact that others are free to do the same. Okay, I'm done now. Thanks for a great reaction guys.- Hawk
Thank you for your service. I was an Army wife for 20 years and miss that type of community. I agree with everything you’ve said. I don’t recognize this country anymore; it’s not the country I grew up in. BUT, I still love this country and believe in what she stands for. We need term limits for the legislative branch. We need an age limit for President. (You have to be 35 to become one; there should be a limit to how old one can be.) We’ve been divided before and ultimately We The People need to reform this government. Can we do it? I don’t know. I pray we can. America is hurting right now, but she’s still worth defending and fighting for.

And my sincere thanks to you for enduring all the sacrifices and hardships you experienced as an Army wife for 20 years. I totally agree. In my lifetime I have never seen our nation as divided as it is now. But I too think we will find our way back to the founding principles that made this country a, if not the, leader of the free world in less than 200 years. The process may not be pretty, but it will be effective. Have a great day.

@@blueloulove Thanks for your kind words. It was my honor to serve alongside some real heroes. You make some very valid points. The ideologies currently being pushed or forced on the public are not what we signed up to defend.

Facts!!
I was recently at a family function being a good adult and listening to an unsolicited rant, by a 13 year old cousin, on her liberal views. After abut 10 minutes her voice turned monotone to me, like in the Charlie Brown cartoons, and all I could think about was the fact that when I was her age, we were outside on our bikes trying to replicate the adventures we saw in The Goonies, and buying bubble gum cigarettes at the gas station. Times have changed drastically.
