I had the honor to be in the first batch of people who could see it in the world at the Annecy Festival, and honestly, it's my favorite movie of all Time. I just want to say thanks to all of you for this beautiful movie, it really touches me in every way it could. I'm currently a student in the 3D and my new dream is to work on a movie that reaches this kind of perfection. I hope one day in my life I can meet all of you to congrats you in person.
This is about the fantasy world of a depressed little girl finally breaking through herself. It's a great movie. The otter machine is cute. Every imaginary fish and otter implies the real family of the little girl. I hope you can see it.
I'm always amazed when studio films use CG animation to it's actual potential. Hyper stylized animation combined with ink paintings is just incredible. For a small team like this is quite an accomplishment. If the team on the film ever finds this. You guys rule!
Even a Filipino like me can recognize the amount of work and talent poured into this movie. China has a large pool of master artists and storytellers, and those lucky enough to work on this film did a phenomenal job.
I always thought 3D animated movies lacks a soul in their films compare to 2d animated stuff and somehow they kinda looks the same. Maybe most of those 3D films are aim at childrens so they never took a extra step. I am not saying the disney style is bad, its good and I really liked some of the movies but they are too clean I would say. For example, in this movie the first scene of girl in the midst of snowstrom is really good, I was hooked from the start - barefoot on snow, strong wind, snow interaction with her hair and face, her pale face, the horror element, the song to make more eerie , THE BEST. I don't think I ever saw this level of detailing in any of other 3D stuff anywhere. I do want to point out that the real reason this movie have a soul doesn't come from the fact that they have done something new and unique, that is one of the reason but only 40% of it matters. Even hollywood Elementals have done something new and unique by having fire and water as its characters, since that is the most difficult thing to control in 3D, but that movie haven't moved me this much. The other 60% is having most of its SCENE FILLED - what I want to say is, if you take any shot from this movie, it is completely filled with characters who have its own unique trait and they are not like background characters who either walk or talk while being blurred, also there are many other props which is highly detailed and filled in every scene. As a 3D art student is a complete treat to watch the scene when the girl enters the Deep Sea Restaurant for the very first time. Most of the movie is liked that except for emotional scene and landscape shot. Other movies also do that but not at this scale, probably only 20 to 30 percent, that's why you can see handful of characters spend their time in rather open places or even if its close interior place you can pause the movie and count the objects you see in the frame in one hand. It is very Heavy on PC to make such Filled Scene as they said in video so many avoid it but this is what makes a huge difference. This is the best 3D movie I ever saw - It took them more than 6 years to make something new and awesome, I hope the makers get their recognition in the world stage. China do produce good movies and animation but it never makes waves outside china and people don't get to know about those Gems.

Loved this movie more than The Boy and the Heron and imo it should’ve gotten an Oscar nomination at least. The animation is definitely on-par with Across the Spider-Verse
This looks absolutely amazing. Although, I am wondering how I will be able to stream it at home. With so many particles, the compression is gonna go crazy and it'll look awful on streaming. :(
I wish it would come to the US on the big screen, but I'm not holding my breath 'cause.... you know.... America. I waited for all the Light Chase films and in the end, nothing. Either no theaters booked them or I had to drive a 100 miles to get to a screening (and I don't live that far from major metro centers). But even if it shows up, both the US government and the citizens are so green, so jacked up with anything from China right now, they'll just shad all over it (anyone read the American reviews of Wandering Earth II? Haha, funny stuff). When cities lacking masks turned away free mask donations from China during the worst days of COVID, you're not going to get far with a movie. Let's face it, racisim and xenophobia runs so deep in the veins of the US it was there before the country was even founded. .... but I'm super cynical right now and shouldn't be getting off subject. Yeah, who knows, may be I'll get lucky with this one.
