Imagine when writers try to come out with an absolute dystopia, and still fail to measure up with the real world we live in where now men can freely do whatever the hell they want in women's restrooms.
Why is this game so legendary? I first played it in 2005 and ever since has been in the back of my head. I remember all the places, characters, sound effects, background songs... Why oh why is this game so hard to forget so i could enjoy the uniqueness of playing it the first time? I am sure you know the feeling of playing the game and then beating it. Puts a smile on your face but with a bit of sadness at the same time knowing it is over. I fucking love the whole series, even 2nd part, the graphics like shadows & lighting ... :) Replayed it last year with a mission to do a fast paced run through the story. I couldn't. Clock? 40 hours at the end. I still needed to search for all parts, locations, characters, side missions... just like the first time. You know what? The feeling was amazing and almost similar to the one when i played it for the first time when i used a dictionary next to a keyboard to understand some words. I was that commited to selecting the appropriate answer. Oh, the good old times. Happy that i discovered this gem on an abandoned CD by my brother who only did training mission and with all that scary sounds and bots and conversation system said this was a messed up game (rather hard game to understand at first) and left it at the side collecting dust over time. Until i found it in the ruins and my life was about to change completely. The rest is a history. *Thank You Warren Evan Spector and Co, i take my hat off to all of you who participated in creatng a masterpiece!*
It took me all this time to realise why this game is so memorable. Sure, it has fun and in-depth gameplay, a large world and an expansive story, but it did something not many other games did well; atmosphere. There's something about this game's music and sound design combined with the levels that gives you this strange feeling of awe and immersion.
It had so much more intelligence to it than the sequels (and hell, modern games in general). What game since has had an OPTIONAL conversation with a surveillance supercomputer that proclaims itself to be the next God humankind will worship? What game since has accurately predicted world political shifts? I feel like Half-Life, Deus Ex, System Shock...these were the games during the golden age of gaming. Then we moved onto the simplistic, lootbox infested rubbish we have today. Hopefully one day the smart ideas will reign supreme again.
Really nice hommage of you. I totally agree with all what you said. I think that the quick answer of the question is: (Why is this game so legendary?) Amazing ambiance, awesome soundtrack, terrific plot, unforgetable characters, fine gameplay, intelligent game design, and strong universe. In one word: It's a masterpiece! Period. (PS: I'm french so... excuse my french if my english is wrong!)
No music - "You are just an office worker." With music - "You are one of the UNATCO agents, currently stuck behind a desk filling those lame reports and waiting for your next mission"
The thing I like the most about this, and other Deus Ex music, is how well it's suited for a long and expansive game like DE. You're in these locations for a long time. A bombastic score with lots of horns and crescendo would become grating over time and just give the player a headache. This is muted and calm, while still present and unmistakable. This particular piece really matches well with the UNATCO setting, too.

Yes! I love this! I always feel like I'm on a top secret mission all the time! Even when I'm just going to the store.. :l
same here dude! or NYC Streets! :D
Who's the say your store trip isn't a secret mission?
Battery Park - New York.
You're a legend for posting this, so much nostalgia!
Just thought I'd come back to tell you the difference between the HR and DX GOTY version. The HR version raises the pitch of this song by 12%.
Now this is some autism. (notaninsult)

@MusicisLife8393 Don't think I won't report this.
And by the way denton stay out of the ladies restroom
That kind of activity embarrasses the Agency more than it does you.
@MusicisLife8393 I believe it is "expecting a show?"
HAHAHAHAHA! MAN I MISS THIS GAME!!!!!!! THE BEST GAME EVER
“Hold on, I have to drop something. Heh-heh.”
It makes you want a trench-coat and snoop into your co-workers emails.....lol
OK, you made me giggle. 😁
"" The guy in a coat! Remember the briefing!" (your co-workers, probably)
hopefully not into women's bathrooms too
Bandit!
Help me I just listened to this for half an hour and I'm still not sick of it.
Wow. Nice to hear the original without the added baseline! This is the one I remember from the game.
my thoughts exactly. THIS was UNATCO
I love how the general view on this game turned from "LOL total conspiracy shit crazy ass stuff" to "This is a very optimistic timeline"
I used the electric prod on the guard behind the desk at the main door of the HQ, he was one of the few that didn't deserve to die on my escapade-rampage from majestic.
I just used the crowbar on El Ray and the subway thugs....cause...well, its kinda fitting.
U-unatco?
Savage.
Yes!

I played deus ex for the first time a week ago and finished it and I already feel so nostalgic, what a good fucking game.
Like leading a mouse to cheese...
Welcome to the Coalition. ;)
I code listening to this and Unatco conversation theme
Working hybrid and walked around our 1 million sq ft campus listening to this. Makes the mundane work seem important. Versa Life campus is more analogous though vs UNATCO HQ. Those cubes and the workers saying "What", and there only being a few per floor.
I remember when i was a little kid playing this game, english is not my native language so pretty much the first level and the second i was able to beat as a kid.
Later on when i got older in my mid 20s my cousin still had a copy of this game, and i have to say that Deus Ex was truly one of a kind experience.
Fun times.
Today we get so many crappy games actually lol
I can't believe I just listened to all of this. That was lovely, in a sneaky, hide behind a desk and read other people's e-mails kind of way. :-)
I love how when I look at the old or new comments: they are usually all just dialogue from the game. And I have no idea why I laugh so hard seeing it. And- for my own 2 cents:
"A bomb."
"You better double check your systems"
@@muffin7483 maybe you should try getting a job
@@neerajkrishnan8574 Okay, where?
This game is slowly becoming reality more every day
I used to stay long time around HQ just to listen to this one. Great memories.

a lot of people seem to have played this game around 2000 or behind 2010, and im here that played it for the first time maybe 2 years ago. i didnt think id like it all, but to my surprise i loved it. i still love it today like i just found it for the first time. im just 17, this games older than i am! i love this game so goddann much oh my god.
you tried the revision mod yet ?
@@isuckatusernames4297 ive beat it 2 or 3 times, yeah
I played it right after the original release and for me it still is the best video game ever made to this dáte!

A sincere thank you to the creator of this video. I would have flunked Calculus without it.
Feels good tobe around like - minded bros who loved this game. One of the master piece of my childhood comprising of all the fantasies - MJ12, Illuminati, New World Order, Area 51 which are compiled in 1 story line beautifully. This is just not a music, but feeling of being part of UNATCO and going against it. I hope Deus Ex either remakes this game for new gen graphics or creates something which would bring the glory once established by this game.

Every single comment - you are all part of the deus ex team. For those that know, know. You will never ever feel this level of mystery and conspiracy in a game ever again. Not with a soundtrack like this !!!!!!! My brothers.
Deus Ex, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., VtM: Bloodlines and Planescape Torment. Whenever I accidentaly play any of these OST´s here on youtube, I have this kind of sudden urge to reinstall and play them again :-D
UA-cam recommended me this video and then I find this comment mentioning not 1 but 2 of my favourites!
Imagine for a moment if Strelok were to be in the DX world or JC were in SoC or even better, Degtaryev in DX while JC finds himself on the Skadovsk!
On a separate note, I still play them whenever the itch comes back. Nothing like it then, nothing like it now.
Those games are small enough memory-wise that I never feel the need to uninstall.
@@burnttoast26 nice! I have an old machine that I keep just for these games. It's getting harder and harder to find spares nowadays. I m working on a different approach. A VM with the appropriate h/w and s/w for running these legendary games. Let's see how it goes.
