I’d be retiring or working less in 5 years, and curious to know how best people split their pay, how much of it goes into savings, spendings or investments, I earn around $250k per year but nothing to show for it yet.

get rid of any unnecessary purchases, especially things that cost you monthly, or better still, consider financial planning

Agreed, I'm quite lucky exposed to financial planning at an early age, started work full time at 19, purchased first home at 28. Going forward, got laid off at 36 amidst covid-outbreak, and immediately consulted an advisor to stay afloat. As of today, I'm barely 15% short of my $1m goal after subsequent investments.

@@Charlesman_T that's great! retired in my 40s after inheriting money from a childless relative. I was making 6 figures at work but it was just a treadmill, traveled overseas and found a girl almost my age, happily married and only issue is how to grow or preserve our wealth... think your advisor can be of help?

Karen Lynne Chess is the licensed advisor I use. Just search the name. You’d find necessary details to set up an appointment.

curiously searched ‘Karen Lynne Chess’ on the internet, spotted her consulting page at once, and was able to schedule a free call session. Ive seen commentaries about advisors but not one looks this phenomenal

Great info here Eric, thanks! I was hoping to learn more about other alternatives to bonds in my brokerage account for conservative tax efficient investments as we approach retirement. We all know how volatile the market can be and now we learn today the same can apply for bonds if rates rise. So are there any other options to consider in my brokerage account besides money market? Can you recommend other videos that discuss this? Trying to minimize taxes, so interest from MM in my brokerage account is killing me! Thanks much! ✌👍

Great explanation Eric! I bought into FBNDX (Fidelity Investment Grade Bond Fund) in 2021in order to "diversify" a bit into a more stable area and have been on the bond roller coaster. Its been a learning experience as I never thought bonds/bond funds could change in value so much. I plan to let it ride and keep reinvesting the monthly dividends...
