I’ve ridden the hobo train many times on the first day I arrived at Lincoln NH. I can’t wait to return to the Garnett State and ride both the hobo and Winnipepaukee Railroads. I don’t care if there diesel powered. Those SW1000s are like a staple to me. Been riding behind them since I was a little kid. So those old yard switchers are a part of my childhood. The last time I rode the hobo train I was informed some of the passenger cars were brought to them by the MBTA. Probably the former Budd RDC cars as some of them still have a little left over MBTA colors. And I’m sure the SW1000s were yard switchers on the old Boston and Maine. True railroad history still running the rail’s of Central New Hampshire. I can’t wait to go back and ride my childhood trains. All aboard?
Not at Hobo in Lincoln, but they do have 3 working steam locomotives and Lombard logging engine at their other location a few miles up the road at Clarks Trading Post. I think they keep the steam engines captive to avoid the regulations that come with having public crossings and connection to the national rail network. Either way they have a great collection and they run beutifully!

I wish that New Hampshire would reinstate commuter rail service statewide. Driving is no longer fun for me.
