I had a 2010 4 Runner trail that was destroyed in a hail storm. Made the huge mistake of replacing it with a 50K Jeep Grand Cherokee that had the eco diesel engine. It died before it was 2 years old and needed a whole new engine. It was under warranty but Jeep would not go good for it and buy it back. Yes it was very nice on the inside with all the fancy bells and whistles but I always felt I was driving a grocery getter. Took two months to fix the Jeep and I immediately traded it in and went running back to Toyota. I live in the mountains of Montana. I actually take my vehicles off road and need locking differential occasionally. My 4 Runner TRD Off Road has never let me down. So tired of seeing city drivers reviewing these off road rigs.
My friend has a 2017 Jeep limited it has only been driven for 8,000 miles it sat for 2 months in driveway the dealer said because it wasn't used much the hydraulics decayed cost over $ 4,000 under warranty at about 4,000 miles it cost like $ 2,000 for electronic problems but it is real nice looking.

Because I was never able to find a comfortable seat position and since I have to keep this thing, I was forced to loose some weight... That was the idea behind the interior and features of the 4Runner. It’s a more traditional off road SUV. No bells and whistles like a soccer mom would need to hit up the mall. Their bells and whistles come as crawl control, multi terrain selector, active trac, and e-locker. My mother has a Grand Cherokee and I have a 4Runner. She will never go off-roading but likes the space and stance of an SUV. (She’s had knee replacements so it’s easier for her to get in and out.) I enjoy my 4Runner because it’s all the basics I need, plus all the off-roading options I could want. I’m not paying for my car to send texts for me or to have a tablet built in the dash. If I absolutely need that, $600 buys a different headunit that has Apple Play Forgot to add, no, you don’t get “real leather”. But, that’s because they used a breathable product in case it gets mud or water on it. Maybe read up on the reasons behind the decisions before you critique it as a disadvantage.
Great comment. You addressed everything he criticized perfectly. Idk why he kept referencing a crossover when a 4runner is completely different. He sounded like a disappointed soccer mom reminiscing about her old crossover. Lol

If you buy any vehicle without researching it and what it’s most useful for then your not a smart shopper. People who want the capabilities of a 4Runner but need the bells and whistles should look at the limited or Lexus GX. My next purchase will be a TLC but my 4Runner will always be around.
4Runner is a purpose vehicle yes you can use it to drive your kids to soccer but if you complain about the ride by yourself a a crossover and enjoy your comfortable ride
I have a 96 4runner limited. 234k miles, runs great, everything works. You really dont need to buy a new one to have a reliable daily. If you can turn a wrench, a 3rd gen 4runner is a great way to go.
I’m in a small minority that would LOVE a 4Runner that’s more “decked out” with a nicer interior and better MPG. I go hiking and stuff a bit, but rarely have I ever needed to “offroad”...so this thing would basically just be an every day to and from the job driver, road trip vehicle, etc. The 4runner is the best looking vehicle on the road today, and toyotas other offerings look like shit. But to buy a vehicle just because it looks nice, and doesn’t meet my functional needs/wants, that’d be dumb.
I’m in the same boat. I love the sporty style of the 4Runner but have no need for serious off-road equipment. I do however like the idea of a 4Runner with more space and mpg.
I like personally like the utilariany look to it, inside and out. Can't stand the giant "afterlook" of the touch screens in new cars in the middle of the dash. I will drive my 04 4Runner to the wheels fall off but do like these generation 5 4Runners. I hope Toyota sticks to their guns in the next design and does not soften them up to look like the other 25 crossover/SUV's out there.
Great for towing and road trips. Used my brother's 4-Runner to tow my bass boat 400 miles north to White Lake, Ontario. Great vehicle!! Just like my 2017 Tacoma SR5.
The 4Runner is just the best SUV overall period.! I like having the RAV4, 4Runner, and Supra and I’m good. And an old F150 for towing things for the house.
Many years ago, I drove an old 1997 4 runner. I liked it but it was so bouncy inside. Not sure if the frame came loose but if you hit the smallest bump, your head could almost bounce off the ceiling. Was this a fluke or do all older 4 runners do this and cant take normal roadside bumps?
I must admit I came from Subaru which had all kinds of problems. Seemingly my RAV4 has been nothing short of fantastic. Although not a 4Runner I will say the interior points are the biggest change. The legacy felt far more luxurious than my Rav. However, what I lost in luxury I gained in reliability. I will be buying a 4Runner in the future. I hope the body on frame stays the same as well as is overall simple build. I love Toyota.
It’s a very stout reliable vehicle built in the same factory the Land Cruiser is made. I’ll take that over all the electronic fads in other mainstream cars today.
I love my 2018 4runner red off road premium BECAUSE it does not have push button start, a dial for the 4x4 or a sunroof. The fob you carry for push button start, should say lose it, will cost just over $600.00 to replace it. If something goes wrong with the push button start it will cost at the minimum of $1,000.00 to repair it. It's a mess just to get to it. Hate dual climate control. To repair driver or passenger side we have to pull your dashboard out!!! Pain and lengthy job to do. Expect over $1,000.00 to repair one or the other. I'm not bashing 4Runners! I love Toyota. I collect Toyota trucks and 4Runners.
I agree with him on the interior. Its EXTREMELY outdated, it's not even up to par with any other vehicle that is pretty basic and without options. But, with the longevity of these vehicles running forever, I'd still buy one.
I just bought a 2016 SR5 Premium. I'm able to lower the driver seat to avoid banging my head on the roof, but the passenger seat doesn't lower. Wish I'd sat in the passenger seat before I bought it! I'm only 6'2" and my head presses against the roof!
I loved my 2010 SR5 with Cloth, a key, and regular A/C, with 2WD OR 4WD & 29 mpg It was Totaled. Replaced by a 2012 Limited AWD- black leather, push button start, climate control, NAV, but you pay to play....16 mpg. My SR5 was a daily driver at 29 mpg. My Limited- well I've driven preowned cars to commute. All in all I knew a Highlander Hybrid would be the best option. But there's just something about a 4Runner.
I have a 2001 4Runner and love it. My mom has the 2015. And honestly, it a pain to drive it, the windshield is significantly smaller than the 2001 and that makes it harder to see. The gas and brakes are way too touchy. All in all, I would not enjoy driving everyday
With other car based SUVs you might save some money on gas, but you’ll definitely spend it back in repairs. And who on earth actually WANTS auto stop/start engines?! That’s why I bought a 2019 4Runner TRD Premium. Simple, reliable and no awful stop/start!
bBrider I didn’t know you had to be a specific type of person to buy a car. It’s people like you who judge anyone is what’s going to kill the 4Runner. It’s a vehicle.. If you like it, you own it. If you don’t then let others enjoy it. It’s 2018 and you’re still finding ways to judge and brand people? The more people buying this the better for future 4runners so why hate? The only reason they’re continuing this car is because it’s getting sales and most are from Soccer moms, and Soccer dads so you should actually thank them, and not hate.
Thats actually a good thing, if heaps of people buy them parts become cheaper and not to mention second hand soccer mum city cars are usually in way better conditon drivetrain and mechanically than any flogged out off roader. I bought a brand new fj in 2015 but also have a second hand 2012 and the 2012 had never been off road, got an absolute bargain from a mum that sold it because it was too hard to get her single baby out of the back haha. ;)
Yeah but its one of the most reliable fucking cars ever. You dont buy a 4runner for the fancy shit you buy it because it can own it forever and have barely any issues.
I like the 4Runner as it is still a truck. Is the drive train outdated? Yes it is but you know what you’re getting. All of the bugs are worked out and parts are cheap if you’re out of warranty. If working on your vehicle isn’t your thing plenty of techs with experience to do the job. Though outside of routine maintenance you shouldn’t have issues for hundred of thousands of miles.
This guy is really struggling to sell this to me, and it's Toyota's fault, not his lol "The engine is loud, the gas mileage is trash, it's slow... BUT THAT MAKES IT INTERESTING!"
What a manufacturer actually staying to the basics and building a vehicle to last? And that's why I love Toyota .GM Ford and Dodge have their priorities wrong what junk!
Tulia I was speaking in general, not directly to him. I'm basically saying if you want a glorified station wagon, buy a crossover. Comparing a 4Runner and a crossover isn't really a fair comparison. One is a car, one is four wheel drive truck.
You never say that you are driving the trd. Which is different... super charger and other options. Probably why the mileage is different. Kind of obvious difference.
I have a 2017 SR5 premium. Looking back not many options or features for this way expensive vehicle. I commute about 50 miles per day just for work not counting any other places I may go. Uses quiet a bit of gas.I'm kinda of tired of climbing in and sliding out. Thinking of downgrading to a corolla believe it or not. Biggest complaint I have is with steering. Seems to not be very nimble and it likes to drift quiet a bit left or right. Hit a rut in the road and they whole vehicle will pull in that direction. Anyone else noticed handling like this?
Don't want easier to live with crossover like Highlander. Want the 4Runner just like it is. I love mine. I only hope when they refresh it with a ver 6, they don’t make a pussy SUV like all the other milk toast vehicles in the category.
Toyota gave up on 4Runner. No design refresh and interiors and transmission is so outdated. Also, rear legroom is great if your family is shorter than 5 feet.
Toyota should’ve made a manual transmission. Don’t need the stupid over priced tray. Still you need a manual transmission screw automatic. Toyota is out of touch with moving forward they still use drum brakes.
Kudos to Toyota for keeping the interior simple. Who needs keyless start, automatic AC and what not.
Rhaspun yeah Toyota is smart. Buy a highlander if you want all that
Rhaspun omg I hate push to start soo much
The Limited comes with keyless and a bunch of other nice to have's.
Volume and climate settings through a touch screen are blasphemous.

With other car based SUVs you might save some money on gas, but you’ll definitely spend it back in repairs. And who on earth actually WANTS auto stop/start engines?! That’s why I bought a 2019 4Runner TRD Premium. Simple, reliable and no awful stop/start!
It's soccer dads and soccer moms like this that is going to kill the 4Runner.
bBrider I didn’t know you had to be a specific type of person to buy a car. The only reason they’re continuing this car is because it’s getting sales and most are from Soccer moms, and Soccer dads so you should actually thank them, and not hate.
bBrider comment made no sense
Tulia your absolutely correct
Thats actually a good thing, if heaps of people buy them parts become cheaper and not to mention second hand soccer mum city cars are usually in way better conditon drivetrain and mechanically than any flogged out off roader. I bought a brand new fj in 2015 but also have a second hand 2012 and the 2012 had never been off road, got an absolute bargain from a mum that sold it because it was too hard to get her single baby out of the back haha. ;)
Explain the your comment , as your speaking out the side of your neck
Yeah but its one of the most reliable fucking cars ever. You dont buy a 4runner for the fancy shit you buy it because it can own it forever and have barely any issues.
That was a good little thought. Kudos
I have one and I really like it!
Im on the fence... 4runner or Tacoma.. Is one more reliable
4 runner definitely! 100% Japanese made and bomb proof.
@@NRGRX
I heard that 4runners are great and Japanese made.
Great vid. Very professional.
This guy is really struggling to sell this to me, and it's Toyota's fault, not his lol
"The engine is loud, the gas mileage is trash, it's slow... BUT THAT MAKES IT INTERESTING!"
great! 2011 sr5 4x4 love it.
What a manufacturer actually staying to the basics and building a vehicle to last? And that's why I love Toyota .GM Ford and Dodge have their priorities wrong what junk!
These rock! Its not a bitch mobile. If you want that buy a crossover.
Ronnierayv what got up your ass? He was simply telling the audience it’s more rocky than the cross overs...?
Tulia I was speaking in general, not directly to him. I'm basically saying if you want a glorified station wagon, buy a crossover. Comparing a 4Runner and a crossover isn't really a fair comparison. One is a car, one is four wheel drive truck.
Ronnierayv you’re absolutely correct, not everyone is built for a 4Runner! 😏
How tall is that guy? Like 7 ft?
6'4
Is it rad or is it red?
How tall is this guy? He looks at least 6.5ft. 4runner looks small and it actually isn't
I dont care about auto climate control, push button start, etc. I want it plain and simple. Big knobs, etc.
Great vid lots of info
Anyone else noticed handling like this?
sounds like a larger SUV with big tires on crap highways... everybody deals with this.
Hard to tell how big that ute is when you got a giant reviewing it 😅
Can't compare the Highlander and the 4 runner. Either you "get" it.......and, love the 4 runner........or you don't.
Why tf does it look like a toy compared to you in the beginning?
Hello James.
This guy is even bigger than the suv
What are you like 7feet tall
You made the vehicle look so small with your height
You’ll see this same 4Runner hauling ass in the next 20 years
2.55 no advance safety control i was just in a crach whit this ting it safte my live
Don't want easier to live with crossover like Highlander. Want the 4Runner just like it is. I love mine. I only hope when they refresh it with a ver 6, they don’t make a pussy SUV like all the other milk toast vehicles in the category.
Thad castle?
Hahahahaha! Yeah. I still love it. And it's a Toyota. It's heritage.
Its a great daily driver but it gets shit gas mileage specially if you have all terrains.
Anyone else concerned why this guy makes this car look like a toy just by standing by it
Funny how i come across this and now the Smaller Land criuser is more expensive. We’re going backwards 🙈
If it ain’t broke......
A skinny Seth McFarlane?
I love Toyota 4.runner trd off road
LMFAO $43,000. I'll take two
❤❤❤❤
Toyota gave up on 4Runner. No design refresh and interiors and transmission is so outdated. Also, rear legroom is great if your family is shorter than 5 feet.
2:50
Climate control
Advanced safety tech
Automatic start
Larger screen
ALL THERE ON 2020 4RUNNER
...and the "faux" leather is VERY comfortable
Toyota should’ve made a manual transmission. Don’t need the stupid over priced tray. Still you need a manual transmission screw automatic. Toyota is out of touch with moving forward they still use drum brakes.
ur copying doug demuro
Handsome
It neeeeeeeds a redesign
It’s funny mostly people buy this dinosaur and hope one day they will take to off road but they don’t and suffer the misery 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What misery you talking about son. Still not worried driving my 17 today. Been through 2 hurricanes in my badboy and still going. BUH BYE 👌
U R YUMMY CUTE 🥰😍🤩
Goofy terrible like your flailing gestures?
thank god you don't drive a Rubicon, it would tarnish the image.
insecure much
How tall is this guy?
