Everyone overlooks this line
Keep in mind guys that the dragons are emotionally connected to their riders. Luke was stressed and scared, Arrex felt that, and had to protect his rider, he lashed out at Vhagar. Now Vhagar is a 300 year old BEAST that not gonna take no shit by anyone, plus it feels the hatred that Aemond feels. The emotional connection is also shown to us when Raehnira gave birth and her dragon was feeling the pain. Also remember, Viseris said it to his daughter, that we may think that we control the dragons but we really dont.
About Daemon, he is a very complex character, but theres a few things that we can be sure about. He is a military man, that loves war, and he loved his brother and his neice/wife. He always felt hurt that his brother didnt choose him as a hand and again when he realised that he didnt even know about the profecy.

In the books, it's said that the Targaryen's did a lot of experiments with chimeras and combining animals. It's said thats why they have such a strong link to dragons, that they literally are part dragon. If you notice when the dragons rawr, there is a very human scream behind it. Also Rhanerya's still birth baby had scales and was part dragon.
That's such an important point about what Viserys said to Rhaenyra: control over the dragons being an illusion. It almost feels like a throwaway conversation, so to see it so powerfully paid off in the finale... It really sets the tone that no, these powerful creatures - who serve as the emblem of the entire Targaryen dynasty - are not just tools to be used by their riders for war (regardless of what GoT season 8 would try to have you think). They are the personification of Targaryen power and id, and no one has control over their id at all times, _least_ of all the Targaryens. Dragons are at the root of their house's downfall, just as they are the single major reason they rose to power in the first place. So excited for season 2.

That dragon that Daemon was singing to was Vermithor. Remember the old man at the beginning of the pilot? Jaehaerys? That was his dragon.

Otto and the others on the council have been planning this for years. It was going to happen regardless if Rhaenyra's children were bastards or not. People on both sides made mistakes but Otto was the driving force that caused this.

I’m def with Mair on this too. I think she is gonna care. Alicent is 100% gonna be pissed about the whole situation. She didn’t want Lucerys to be killed. Whether you think they should agree to it or not, Alicent literally just sent a piece agreement to them bc she doesn’t want to be at war with Rhaenyra. Now that’s def not gonna happen and she’s not gonna be happy with Aemond.
Especially with what’s to come in season 2 Aemond is a kinslayer and when you’re given that title you’re cursed that’s why Rhaenrya doesn’t want to harm her siblings
Agree, Alicent may be a lot of things but I think even this is too far for her. There's a line and I think when she tried to stab Rhaenyra, the words she was told where she mentioned being cloaked by her righteousness, is something that is going to REALLY haunt her now because she has tried to play victim so much, and has tried to make Rhaenyra out to be the lesser of the two. And yet, now her own son has completely crossed the line and killed his own nephew/kin regardless of intention. So now she has to sit there, stfu and swallow what's next because look at how ANGRY she was when they took out Aemon's eye all those years ago? And was so gung ho on "an eye for an eye". Now look at that. They just went a step further and killed Rhaenyra's son for literally NO reason, a legit innocent child during what was a diplomatic meeting, even at Storm's end homeboy was like "nah you not about to attack this boy when he's here on official messanger business" like killing someone in that circumstance is such a harddddd NO. It's similar to killing a medic on either side during open battle/a war, it's literally a war crime. So this is absolutely what's about to break the camels back and Alicent now knows the war is absolutely going to happen, it's going to be a bloodbath and that's that lmaooo.

I don’t think this is book “spoiler” if folks aren’t really gonna read the books. I assume they are not.
I will just add this is why some Targs are referred to as dragons with the “blood of the dragon” and others are not.
Just as in our DNA we can be two siblings in a- say- mixed ethnicity - family but some kids exhibit more African say features and others say more European. I think it works like some Targ family members inherit more blood of the ACTUAL” dragons than others.
They are not just alicents children there also viserys kids aswell and he failed them, he basically had no relationship with them he only cared for rhaenyra and her children

Daemon defaults to violence. He isn't a good person at all. He is very dragon-like. Lashes out when he feels threatened. However his saving grace is his loyalty to his family. As for him choking Rhaenyra, I'm not defending him but Rhaenyra wasn't scared of him. She actually used the opportunity to learn more about Daemon and realized that her father truly saw her as his ONLY heir. He didn't even tell Daemon about the prophecy. Now obviously Daemon would be very hurt by this because it proves to him he never had hid brother's approval or complete trust, which Daemon was desperate for. He did almost everything to earn his brother's approval, to prove himself worthy of his brother's trust. That must really sting. Plus losing your unborn child while grieving your brother and finding out your wife's inheritance was stolen. He defaults to violence.

Daemon was upset because he was Viserys’ heir for like a decade. All he ever wanted was his brother’s attention and pride and then he finds out that all along his brother never actually took him seriously or ever considered him as his heir. He told Rhaenyra seconds after telling her she’d be queen but withheld it from him for 9 years. He felt betrayed

Alicent is 100% thought that King Viserys is talking about her son, he don't told her anything about Aegon's prophecy about the night knig!
That secert is for Rhaenyra only and Viserys thought he talking to her not to Alicent .. So all this war is from this misunderstanding.
Nah they’re right alicent only believes viserys said that and took it seriously bc that’s what she wanted to hear, she was looking for anything to justify aegon becoming king just not as blatantly as Otto and Lannister etc
Daemon saw Rheanyra turning into her father (and thus letting Hightowers walk all over them). He saw her further pushing the dragons away and (in his opinion) bringing the demise of their house. Of course a person like Daemon would lash out physically (especially in private). And Daemon had no clue about some prophecy about saving westeros from some threat. He just knew his brother was always super concerned with his dreams and omens, and never took up another dragon or used dragons to fight.
She lost her father, her throne, her baby, and her son all in one episode.
Mair is right because even in the books, Otto and Alicent panicked when they found out Aemond killed Lucerys. They knew war and revenge was inevitable at that point, and they were worried how it was gonna carry out.

How many times do you have to hear that Aemond didn't steal Vhagar? A dragon chouses its rider, Vhagar literally wanted to burn him for bothering her but he proved himself to be worthy of her.

When I watch this episode & all the things Otto does....and especially the ending....I can't help but think about King Viserys and how SLOWLY his mind worked. I think a peaceful King is a GREAT KING. But his mind was always slow. In Game of Thrones - Littlefinger once described Ned Starks as being: "quick to anger. Quick to honor. But with a slow mind." That was Ned's downfall and I think it was Visery's downfall as well. The fact remains that as King...V should have realized fully who Otto was and found a way to secretly eliminate him from the planet. That's what LittleFinger would do to sneaks opposing his interests. That's what Otto would do to anyone betraying or working against his House - his family.
And so now here are at the end of seaaon one with Queen R having to go it alone and opposed with War - all because King V had "Ned Starks Slow Mind" syndrome. Let's just hope Queen R is also quick to moral honor 🎖 but with a QUICK MIND! She needs a Tyrion Lannister Advisor at this stage. Shes MAD TOO. She lost TWO kids in 24 hours. Messed up

Wasn't it said somewhere in the book that Saera almost stole Balerion before she fled to Essos? I'm not sure if I remember correctly.

@@AnimowankaXxx-pp3nm In the sense that she was confined to the Red Keep by King Jaehaerys. Welp is right, you cannot steal a dragon. Had Saera bonded and rode Balerion, with or without the kings permission, the bound is formed and Balerion would've been her dragon because he chose it.
@@perseusveil9376 Well Dany's dragons were definitely stolen by the warlocks in season 2. So I guess, I can agree that in some cases dragons can be stolen, but not when they choose to bond with someone of their own will.
@@AnimowankaXxx-pp3nm Well yes, but as you said thats not the same. Aemond did everything right. He allowed Vhagar to consider him and ride her after feeling her approval. There's also an argument that the Targaryen king can consider you as a thief of dragons/eggs, like Daemon stealing an egg in episode 2. But in the book Viserys is actively allowing and almost even mocking Aemond for not having a dragon, and he expected him to perhaps try to claim one during the travel Dragonstone-Driftmark.
Rhaenyra is DEFINITELY a better, more loving mother, than Alicent is to her children. I accidentally got the result of this episode spoiled for me but seeing it happen was still crazy! The dragon Daemon was singing to was Vermithor, his grandfather's dragon.

Despite this, Alicent was ready to kill everyone and go against her moral principles because of the injustice towards Aemond and rushed to protect Aegon from the dragon. Moreover, Alicent cared about Viserys much more than Rhaenyra, who spent six years having fun with Daemon on Dragonstone, abandoning her sick father. It is better to blame Viserys, who paid no attention to his other children, spat on Aemond's wound as soon as he heard that one of them had "insulted" the Strongs and brazenly lied at a family feast that he loved them all.
@@hshshshs1214 I get what you're saying but I can't think a lot of full grown women (princesses, nonetheless) that tended to their aging parents when they had their own family, especially when you're royalty and have paid servants. That not the princess's' job to be her father's nursemaid. That what either his wife or other ladies of the court are for, like the Silent Sisters.
This is what happens when you literally have children with the men you want to have sex with instead of with an old ugly zombie your father and societal expectations forced you to marry. You grow resentful of your own children - the very extension of the man who can force himself on you every night he wants for years. The fact that y'all Rhaenyra/team black fans always twist this into a motherhood competition is why the more neutral fans find you more and more disgusting every day.

They were always gonna usurp rhaenrya whether she made the right political choices or not, she had no chance because she was simply a woman in westeroise where everything is all about the men, viserys set her up to fail by not making sure her claim was strong and making sure she would politically succeed to ensure her safety in the long run and also remarrying alicent who gave him sons that would traditionally not by law would have a stronger claim because they are males , viserys said it best that “the idea that we control the dragons is an illusion” ,which we saw happen with Aemond who thought it was fun to play around with an old war dragon who’s been in battle for years while Luke’s dragon arrax was a baby dragon who was scared being chased by a big dragon , rhaenrya deserved better cause she was too patient and civil the entire show so it’s heartbreaking that she lost her throne , father , stillborn daughter , sweet son because of the greens and now alicent is gonna be crying and throwing up in a corner of what her son Aemond has done by starting a war , and now rhaenrya my queen coming for they asses, it’s war time baby! Vhaegar is an old, battle hardened dragon who went a long time between riders and Arrax was a baby dragon who was raised in a pit, trained like a horse and never saw the skies outside of Kings Landing. It was a reciepe for disaster.

Im with Soph on Luke being more like Jon Snow. Both characters have a lot of empathy and kindness. They both didnt want the positions they were thrown into. Jon doesnt want to be king and Luke doesnt want to be Lord of Driftmark.

Great reaction! Sad that we have to wait until next year to see more reactions from Westeros from you two! Just so you know, this season is basically a prologue to the war and the story of the dance of dragons. When Viserys dies and then Luke gets killed, those events are the first two events of the dance of dragons. The rest of the story is going to consist of crazy unpredictable event after crazy unpredictable event. It’s going to be a proper game of thrones roller coaster ride.

You guys are both right about Aemond killing Luke. Aemond wasn’t trying to kill him he was just bullying him and toying with him because of the incident from when they were kids. Luke’s dragon Arrax attacked on its own and then Vhaegar responded on her own to attack and kill Arrax and Luke. So it’s technically Aemond’s fault that Luke died because he was being a jerk but he absolutely didn’t do it on purpose and immediately showed remorse after it happened. Shows Aemond isn’t an all out villain but a more complex game of thrones type of character

Yeah I disagree with Sophie on the Greens part about Aegon unintentionally killing Jace. I think as someone who has seen GoT we need to understand that Westeros is filled with about 75% of gray characters and that's what makes the storytelling so compelling. Very few people are outright villainous the way that let's say Joffrey or Ramsey was. Everyone has good/bad and to some extent redeemable characteristics, just as we saw with Jaime Lannister & The Hound etc.
I think Otto may be the only one and possibly Aegon who might not gaf because they are complete narcissists but Alicent is absolutely going to be affected, so is Helaena etc. There is nothing worse than being labeled a "kinslayer" in Westeros which is also I am sure one of the main reasons why Rhaeyns didn't burn them all up when she popped out the dragon pit. It also means there is now ZERO chance of any type of diplomacy, which Alicent despite everyrhing truly wanted with Rhaenyra. It also makes her turn the mirror on herself because she always tried to play Rhaenyra like she was the better of the two and now look at how LOW the Hightowers have gone? Theres no turning back. Alicent was always super protective of her children, and she knows Rhaenyra is and should be too. She would be foolish to not realize/be affected by the implications of this and how this is going to haunt her.

Vhagar was not stolen, JFC. You cannot take a dragon. It would burn you to a crisp or eat you in a single bite if it didn't feel a connection with you. Maybe Vhagar had no connection with Laena's daughters. Sad, but entirely possible.
And do they still think Alicent saying "You imbecile" was being a bad mother and not the obvious "Of course I love you dummy, lol" that it was? Because that was one of the dumbest things I've seen.

Y’all remember in the first episode, the king told Rhaenyra “the idea that we control the dragons is an illusion.” That was just proven in a tragic way. Two young dragon riders who thought they had control - certainly Aemond thought he was incredibly cool riding the biggest dragon alive - both lost control when their dragons got into their own personal battle.
Y'all want to tell me me you never heard King Viserys the Peaceful saying Targaryen thinking they control the dragons was an illusion.

My biggest obsession now is wondering how that blade, commonly known as the Cat’s Paw Dagger, went from Aegon II to the cutthroat that tried to kill Bran a lá Littlefinger.
I think Littlefinger lied and said it was his to further his plan. I bet Jamie took it from Aries. Maybe gave it to Tyrion or just had it the whole time. I mean, It's a family blade, Littlefinger wouldn't just have it.

In the war Robert Baratheon kills Rhaegar in the trident and takes the blade off Rhaegar’s dead body.
At that point we can only assume that Cercei or whoever had access to it because they were all around Robert.
Little Finger is said to have lost it to Tyrion … that may very well be the case ..
Point is… it went from rhaegar to Robert and then at that point it was floating around.
Jaime probably got it from Rhaegar or the other Targs when Mad King fell.

Aemond only mentioned that 'it was a fair exchange' was to deescalate the situation. His mother was in trouble and he saw that. So, he only said that to protect his mother. Of course he would still hold that grudge.. And Aemond was not the instigator of the dragon incident. He did not steal the dragon, 4 kids came up to him and started the physical altercation. He did not throw the first punch.
And it's not shocking that Daemon choked Rhaenyra given that he goes for young women, groomed Rhaenyra, killed his first wife, etc....
Mair is right. Otto has a point and neither side is really wrong. Going based on the times, Aegon has everything that requires to be the King. You may not like it, but he's not wrong.
Rhaenyra is definitely a better mother than Alicent & the kids are the proof. Aemma Arryn Rhaenyra’s mother definitely had sliver hair 😂. Princess Rhaenys the queen who never was in the books has black hair like her Baratheon mother. So in the books it was a little more ambiguous cause Rhaenyra’s sons could’ve inherited their grandmother’s Baratheon features. Also for this reason I wish queen Rhaenyra sent princess Rhaenys instead because she actually has the Baratheon blood & lord Borros’s father loved her dearly as a cousin. So Rhaenys & Meleys would’ve had a better chance to convince lord Baratheon & Aemond wouldn’t have attacked Rhaenys or talked to her crazy. RIP Luke! About jon not having silver hair,in the books there are a few targaryens who have brown/dirty blonde hair but none of them have made it to tv yet.Rhaenys (Corlys's wife) in the books has silver hair with black streaks to show her baratheon side but the show changed it for some reason

Alicent and Otto under no circumstance wanted this to happen, because it does kick off the war that is the Dance of Dragons and they know there's no coming back from this now. Vhagar is terrifying and very old lmao. Now the issue I have with the show vs the book is Rhaenys is half-Baratheon so I would think that Rhaenyra would sent Rhaenys to Storm's End to meet with her cousin(?) but in the book Rhaenys wasn't at Dragonstone so that's why she didn't go. In the show Rhaenys was at Dragonstone so I don't get why she wouldn't send someone with more of a connection with the Baratheons because it made no sense for her not to send Rhaenys. The Starks and Baratheons are two strong houses that they couldn't afford to lose... they should have pulled out all the stops. Also promising Lucerys to Rhaena just to get out of a short term situation was another stupid choice because they need allies and allies are made through marriage pacts.
Luke had to marry Rhaenyra as he is inheriting driftmark and keeping real Valerian blood inheriting the house.

You forgot that Rhaenyra fled to Dragon Stone abandoned ship and was there for years while Alicent and Otto were keeping the realm running. Rhaenyra took almost no responsibilities she just left. She completely disregarded her father the king for years who was very ill and stood for her till death. She knew he could die at anytime. Daemon was vacating in Pentos with Laena while being bored and thinking how he is the best thing in the world. She never acted like the heir or took charge. The Hightowers have been running the realm all the time.
I do think it's bizarre that Rhaenyra never visited Viserys and that should have been explained but she didn't flee, she chose to protect her sons by removing them from King's Landing. The situation between the kids had become extremely hostile and violent. And now their parentage was being loudly questioned. She made the right choice for them.
