Making a Tanto Part 2: The Habaki.

  • The next step in the process is to get to work on the copper bits and pieces. The first of these is the Habaki: the piece that fits over the blade's ricasso in order to hold the blade firmly in the scabbard.

    Although copper is soft and easy to work with, shaping a 3mm thick, short and relatively narrow plate needs time, effort and patience! So the only I can say is, Bravo my friend!

    This habaki does not fit the blade at the edge. Nor particularly well at the spine. But it does sort of look like a habaki. We salute you.
