I think some of the pub names are just words that sound good when he sings them. Malkmus from Pavement does that a lot- he loves the way the word "spies" sounds when he sings it so he slips it into a few songs.

I've always found albums 3-5 a little too polished sounding. Great songwriting, but a little sterile in production (even though it was Josh Homme on this one)

i agree with 4-5 but this ones still sounds somewhat like the first 2
