I've been painting miniatures for years and using washes for almost as long, but this is the first I've learned about 'erasing' tide marks by reactivating the wash medium. This video is worth it just for that, to say nothing of the rest of the excellent work within.
The tide marks I end up using, depending on where they are, as unit markers. Idea came from a friend who was asking how I IDed units etc...I paint over them, with in the shape, with different colors so I can some kind of unit mark for a lance etc...working with things more or less.
Army painter washes are good, recently I started using oil washes. They are very easy to use, cheap and can be mixed to any colour shade. They take a little longer to dry 30mins and 24hrs to cure, don't react with acrylics and can be painted over water base paint once dry.
I've started using oils as well and they are great. They're a bit more involved and advanced than the beginner/easy methods here aimed at new painters and some folks don't like the chemicals involved with thinning and cleaning up oils.
The quads in the beginning are bloody gorgeous. I absolutely love these two mechs and these are probably the best looking Scorpion and Goliath paintjobs i've seen. I just hope the upcoming redesigns of these two mechs look good. The Emperor looks great as well. Never liked that particular sculpt (the Primitive is much better) but your paintjob actually made it look very nice.
Thanks for the kind words and I completely agree the Emperor primitive is better. I'm crossing my fingers for the new quads as well. As to the best scorpion I've ever seen, I must yield that to Michael Holtzapfel www.darklined.com/showcase/ironwind-metals-showcase/scorpion/

Great to hear it helped you out. It's a neat little trick to save more work later. I wish I had figured it out sooner than I did.
I think im going to make a group of pleiades hussars, would love to see you paint one
I got a bottle of heavy charcoal because of this channel. I feel like that color alone made me a better painter.
Definitely going to put this to work, I'm doing 1st Coventry Jaegers.
Great tutorial! You answered a lot of questions I had about painting yellow. Thanks for sharing this.
You are so welcome!
my god, that intro brought back some memories... god damn
pink primer for yellow does wonders
I'd love to see an easy black tutorial especially for something like Wolf's Dragoons Black Widow Company
I'm working on some stuff with black contrast paints so hopefully soon.
Please, PLEASE tell me where I can find some OG Quads like those.

That's a clever idea and great way to make your units unique.

Yellow, separates the masters from everyone else.
Also, using GW washes instead of AP, would Seraphim Sepia be the equivalent for AP Soft Tone?
I believe Seraphim is closest to the soft tone but I don't own any to say for sure. Definitely not as dark as Agrax.
I think that 'drybrush' technique is actually called over-brushing?
Thanks, that's probably correct and I hadn't known.
Thin the paint with proper acrylic paint thinner and you don't get the bubbles.
Thanks I'll give that a try
having a hard time following the tutorial while headbanging. I recommend different background music
