Hey, Joseph, I hope to see you Fall this year... I have no idea if you graduated from Exeter as this video is of 2018... But anyways.. AWESOME VIDEO
I applied a few days ago. Do you have any tips for my upcoming interview? Awesome video btw
hey! just be yourself. stay comfortable and authentic :) it's just a conversation, don't overstress yourself!
As a private high school admissions officer, my advice is to dress well, smell nice, arrive early (if you arrive on time [you are 5 to 10 minutes late in my book]), look the interviewer in the eye, do not make any rude gestures and so on. Also, expect questions from an admission officer like this: (1. Why did you apply to Philips Exeter? 2. Why should we admit you into Philips Exeter or what do you think separates you from other students applying (Do not mention GPA and/or test scores when answering that question)? 3. If you get admitted into Philips Exeter, what do you plan to accomplish during your time at that school? 4. Assuming you graduate from Philips Exeter, what do you plan to do after high school graduation?). If you do not have solid answers to these questions, good luck getting into Philips Exeter because it will be difficult getting in with a sub-par interview performance. Plus, if an interviewer ask a student if they have questions for the interviewer, the student should ask questions to the interviewer. That way the interviewer will know the candidate is serious about attending that school. The bottom line is to treat your admissions interview like a job interview. At the private school I worked at, I had students who earned strong middle school GPA's (3.7-4.0 GPA) and strong SSAT/ISEE (80 and 90 percentile) scores and have a plethora of extracurricular activities, but they mess up in the interview (for example some of them arrived to the interview late, had bad breath or a terrible odor, or had terrible body language or felt nervous when talking) . Therefore, they got rejected or at best waitlisted at the private school I work at. Good luck getting into Philips Exeter and may the odds be in your favor (Hunger Games reference).
OMG MOKSHA WENT TO MY SCHOOL! SHE GRADUATED A FEW YEARS AGO! YOU KNOW HER?
how highly advised or common is applying for repeat in bs and exeter? i'm currently a sophomore primitively applying for 11th grade, but i've been considering repeating 10th merely to have another year of highschool (due to covid turning school online which did no good at all) and to perhaps know myself further and take advantage of all the services exeter offers, if accepted. oh and to adjust to the curriculum and environment with more ease as opposed to coming in as a junior; am assessing over the pressure as a junior and as a new student.. i'd love to know your take on this! :)
Yes! I actually was accepted as a junior, but petitioned the deans to let me repeat after I was accepted. Exeter welcomes a lot of repeat students, and I personally loved being able to repeat 10th instead of going straight into 11th. I thought it would be too stressful to juggle college applications, standardized testing, social adjusting, extracurriculars, sports, and more all at once. So, my repeat year helped me enjoy Exeter so much more and gave me some more time to just have the Exeter experience!
@@JosephChen Oh, didn’t know that was possible! Thank you so much, it helped me clear out things! :)
@@icam7967 For sure! But its best to just apply to the grade you want to do, I went through my process because I didn't think too much about it until AFTER I got in!

I'm thinking about applying to Exeter, any advice on how to get in?
Not particularly. I don’t think there’s a formula, but I know that the Admissions Office would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have!! They’re very sweet people.
