I prefer these trains and the class 150s 156s and 158s to the new trains by a country mile they are better have character unlike the new trains . Plus when you open a window in the older trains you get to enjoy the sound especially when it goes through a tunnel brilliant 👍
The reason the 155s have outlasted the 153s is because the 153s aren’t disabled accessible, but the 155s have been modified. Some TfW 153s have been modified, and they are still in use.
I live in Sheffield and about 1 or 2 months ago I was a Class 155. It was strange to see it working the Sheffield-Scarborough service. Normally ran by a 170 Turbostar and if non available then usually a Class 158 Express Sprinter would be used. But a Class 155?! #RAREMOMENT
Dreadful units….noisy, terrible leg room, boiling in the summer, freezing in the winter. Sadly Northern use East Yorkshire as a dumping ground and we’ve never seen any of the brand new units.
Haha, quite funny you say as Northern is getting 450 new diesel trains to replace the Sprinters and Turbostar units. This is so it is easier to convert them to battery powered with a modern system in future.
