    I have a 10 foot homemade flat-bottom boat that I run in Puget Sound with a 6 horse that goes 17 knots. Having a well trimmed engine (unlike the Suzuki) and the proper pitch prop would increase the performance numbers drastically.

      Totally agree, testers were morons. The cavitation plate height must be adjusted to specs. Either raise or lower the motor on the transom (not trim angle).

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 6 років тому +3

      If you read the magazine article, the Suzuki was a long shaft they got by mistake, hence the spray etc. given how it performed even with that handicap, it was probably the best there performance wise. Without them being set up properly in terms of trim, prop size etc. to perform at their best on the boat used for the test the results are pretty much worthless.

    hi, i have a SIB, 84lbs 3m inflatable with air floor. yamaha 6hp 4stroke, 60lbs,trim pin at 1st position by transom. i just can't get it to go faster than 8mph, can't expect any planing. at full throttle the stern sinks and bow raises, total weight; 2x people+cargo+engine 390lbs do i need a bigger engine? or ride with 1 passenger only. with one passenger it would weigh, 295lb. Should i buy a 9.9hp 2 stroke or get a 9.9hp 4stroke? 4 strokes are heavy, and do you think its ok to put a 15hp 2stroke on it? the boat is rated for 10hp outboard and overall carrying weight of 1100lbs. thanks for your time.

    • @alexandertest1238
      @alexandertest1238 4 роки тому

      Try to set pin to 2nd position, it should help the boat to get on plane.

    • @boatsandoutboards9070
      @boatsandoutboards9070 2 роки тому

      6hp should be able to plane (12-13 mph) with 240kg or 520lbs total weight and with correct propeller. you don't need a bigger engine. you just have to move all weight from back of the boat to the front of the boat, including cargo and yourself, that is essential. and put it in 2nd trim hole. if that does not help, use a propellere with smaller pitch. check my videos on how pitch affects speed

    • @_sneer_
      @_sneer_ Рік тому

      I had a 6hp Yamaha 2 stroke on my 3m Zodiac RIB, it would plane with just me, my gear (a lot of it) and a small dog onboard, but I had to move forward to get it to plane mostly, especially in rougher water. It would plane once it reached 8kts and then max out at 11-13kts. Now I have 15HP Yamaha 2 stroke, it planes with the same load in about 5-10seconds, but in really rough conditions going up a bigger wave still won't plane easily. Top speed about 18-19kts now, with pretty poor propeller. With 1 more person onboard, very little gear and the dog 6hp would not plane at all. With 15HP it porpoises when at speed over 15kts.

      I have hangkai 3.5hp.. it was my first engine, and still my favorite engine for stormy weather when fishing with nets.. I have electric motor that I use instead of hangkai when it is waiting for parts. I have 6hp for fishing in good weather.. it make my sib a speed boat planning at 35-40 km/h getting me and my nets from A to B in no time, and I have a monsterengine made out of Hidea leg and mercury motor. This is my killer engine.. I will never use it for fishing, but for wakeboarding with kids or water skiing .. The Mercury is a BLAST!!!!!!!!! It is a monster of an engine.. to bad it dont have handles so it is very tough to lift it. Visit my channel, you will find something with every engine i have. I am no commertial channel and do not work for anyone.. Every review is a user review and very honest. And if there is no review there is a video of me raping the angine every possible way. Well thats almost every engine.. the 15HP if i try to rape it, ille get raped and killed.. Have fun.

      What props did they use? At the end of the day 9.9 hp is just that, correctly set up I doubt there would be that much difference in performance, perhaps a little with the heavier Honda depending on the boat, but the same power should give about the same performance all other things being equal.
