Known as the Mother of All Festival in the Philippines, Kalibo's Ati-Atihan is the oldest festival in the country.Ati-Atihan Festival is celebrated in honor Santo Niño, the Holy Child or Infant Jesus, the town's patron. Ati-atihan means “making like Atis”. The participants also imitate and celebrates the Ati people, indigenous inhabitants of the island, and their cultural traditions and way of life.
Ati-Atihan originated in the 13th century as a pagan festival. It began as a celebration of peace between the Aetas (indigenous people) of Panay Island and the Malays from Borneo who arrived at the island seeking a new place to live.
The Ati-Atihan festival is held in Kalibo, Aklan, on the island of Panay, Philippines. Ati-Atihan takes place on the third Sunday of January every year.
