Did NOT realize how small your channel was when I first started watching your videos, this is my second video of yours I’ve watched and I’m in love with your content style! Thank you for no background music behind your commentary, it can be so overstimulating and take away from the beauty of the plants. I love the way you described the plants in detail and talked to your audience like we were there. 10/10, just subscribed, thank you for making amazing content!

hey brian, good tour thanks for taking us along. I presume you have a fast growing subscriber count because of the nurseries you are showing, it's less to do with you or your growing tips but every channel has their benefits and I hope you will carry on doing nursery tours which are the best aspect. If you can tell SVO, their next direction should be super fragrant mini catts. They have mastered the coccinea hybrids, I want to see more luteola hybrids from them which is an underrated plant I think.
Getting tips on how to grow mini catts can be tricky, all the advice I have been given online has been terrible. Get your tips from SVO cause that will be the most reliable you will find currently I'd say.
The problem many growers have with minis is figuring out how to fertilize them properly. You have to remember the minis we buy although small will be fully mature plants that will be several years old already. People are often tempted to treat them like seedlings.
SVO won't be going round with a chart and tracking how many micrograms of fertilizer each plant has received that month and how much to feed based on it's size and whatnot. They dose their fertilizer based on a set concentration level. That way the plants never receive more than they can tolerate and never too little either. It's very simple really. But people will try to convince you it's far more complicated and you will end up making mistakes if you are convinced.
Listen to SVO who state that the desired concentration to aim for is 1/2 tsp per gallon of MSU on every watering for any mature orchid as a base minimum.
Any beginner will do well following those instructions. Professionals will tweak it to use more for certain genera and different growing seasons but as a beginner that is a level that will produce decent results without plants dying from lack of fertilizer.
In winter this amount can be halved but generally only if temperatures drop a lot more compared to summer.
Sorry if I my advice is unwarranted.I am not the most diplomatic commenter. I do like to help out others keep their collections doing well.
Most of the time sadly people just get annoyed so sorry if that happens. I know many have beliefs their way of growing is the best way that needs to be shared. I believe there should be more universal standards, not every way is the correct way imo. That way not everyone would want to share their own unique way. Like ask any 10 growers and the saying is you get 12 different opinions.

It really is a daunting task picking plants from their site! I just got some plants from there, and how I made my choices was I looked at every description of the plants that looked like something I'd be interested in, reading the expected results. If it was something I wanted , I took a screenshot of the page and saved it to a specific folder and saved it SVO XXXX RED, or SVO XXXX SPOTS, etc. When I finished, I went back to my folder and looked at all the REDS, and picked one. Looked at all the MULTI-COLORS and picked one. I started with 30 plants I wanted, and ordered 5. It was a process...but it made it easier to decide. I ended up getting 2 REDS, a MAGENTA, a MULTI-COLOR, and a PINK. I had recently realized I needed a RED in my collection and that's why I ended up getting two REDs.
Every single one of the plants arrived in perfect condition! Not overgrown, perfect leaf color, etc. I was a little disappointed that 4/5 of my plants had already bloomed though, because it made me feel like they bloomed and no one found them special enough to purchase.
Do it, and have fun! ;-)

Big selection of cattleyas and paphs!
    Favorite cattleya: 46:43
    Favorite paph : 1:07:01
Nice intro with Carlos at the beginning. I've known that SVO has kiwi bark which is supposed to be really long lasting.
I tried my first cattleyas from Lowe's last year, but only the Dialaelia is doing well. It made new roots during the winter after I placed moss at the top of the terracotta pot and kept it damp. The Potinara is still green, but divided itself after I inspected the roots after repotting. I used moss at the top and it dessicated the new roots so it's been rootless ever since.
My phals do really well in bark so I'm thinking I could raise a more vigorous cattleya like the Richard Mueller ones.

Good question! I think hybrids with Sophronitis Coccinea likely grow cooler! Like slc minipet would probably be a good option! I might recommend giving them a call! Fred and Carlos are super helpful in that regard! Good luck! :)
