In the novel it is stated that the zhang family is blessed with life longevity or immortality especially the main branch of zhang where zhang qi ling is from but it has a side effect also and that is the loss of memory. In the final book it is said that little brother meet the mystic nine before he ask their help to guard the ultimate secret. In every 10 years they must take turns to guard it but the mystic nine didn't keep their. To sum up in the end its WU XIE's turn to guard but because of his innocent and he didn't know about the agreement before little brother sacrifice for him. Zhang come back to the bronze gate to guard the ultimate secret for 10years again.
Too many secrets rather vague..... Like how zhang qilin learned kungfu? Or who trained him? Chen pi ah si? The story where ah si bought him in that cage?
Learned in his family when he was a child. Chen pi ah si met him when Chen pi worked in Guangxi , Xiaoge had lost his memories before and was used to be the “food” for the corpse by some other tomb robber in Guangxi. Everybody else except Xiaoge who went down to that hole had died within 1 week. Chen pi ah si heard about that event so he came to the hole to discover (and to rob some expensive things). Then when they move the big rock which cover the hole and go down to the under ground, only Xiaoge alive. Chen pi ah si knew that this boy is talent, so he kept Xiaoge next to him as his underlings, and Xiaoge then worked for him from 2000-2002 (or to 2004 maybe) In the First Book, Xiaoge joined with Wu Xie and Wu Sanxing (Uncle Three) Team that was because Uncle Three borrowed Xiaoge from Chen pi ah si and Chen pi allowed him to go with Uncle Three’s Team.

这个问题我请教了微博上的鱼粉，虽然意见不一，但是大体情况是，书中并未交代清楚（挖坑未填）。
张起灵没有参加过九门会议，霍仙姑是通过发丘指认出张起灵的，并非靠脸。张起灵虽然带九门完成过一次考古行动（其中陈皮也参加了），照理说陈皮应该见过张起灵，但是后来却不认识，合理推测考古行动那次张起灵可能是易容了。
