Hi Michael, some great progress there, thanks for sharing with us. Hat off to you for your patience, the jetty is a unique masterpiece, well done Sir. Your meticulous planning and preparation is definitely paying off !! All the best, Andy
Hi Andy, you know I dont usually have much patience when it comes to the more fiddly jobs but I decided to stick at it and try to make a good job of it. Thank you very much for your comment. Michael
Hello Michael. Good to see you are keeping well sir, you've been busy! What an amazing piece of artwork you created! My memories of the area came flooding back as you were describing the area, amount and your achievement to date. Looks awesome, with real good representation of Blyth Staithes :-) I look forward to seeing your future installments too!! Your patience paid off with the yard light, which compliments the yard immensely; good on you. The amount of work generally, detailing, getting the trestles up to accommodate the jetty & staithes to correct levels etc, must have been so time consuming, with a lot of forethought. What an inspiration for us all. Thanks Michael. Look after yourself and family. Cheers Iain
Hello Iain, lovely to hear from you, thank you very much for your kind words. I know the area very well I was never away from the place during the school holidays! The yard lamp was tricky to get working as there were no wires coming from the base stem, it was as though they had been cut off, fortunately removal of the stem revealed just enough wire to get a resistor and some power to the lamp, at first it still wouldn't work but a bit more fiddling got it working so all is well now. Take care Iain and stay safe. Regards to you and your family Michael
Really nice work, I admire your patience building the jetty. I remember the area a little bit as I worked on boats in the late 80's to the end of the 90's out of Blyth. I look forward to seeing it come together.
Thank you for your kind words, my dad had a friend who worked on the ship 'Sir Fon' this ship was moored at the ash plant and took ash from 'Blyth Power Station' out to sea and dumped it, one of my school friends uncles was a foyboatman on the river Blyth. Stay safe Michael
Great to see the progress you are making with the layout. A real labour of love. I have great memories of North Blyth and Cambois and still love to go there to photograph trains.
Hi Mal, nice to hear from you. Thank you very much for your comment, I was over at Cambois a couple of weeks ago and there is some new security fencing around the depot area so something must be about to happen. Stay safe Mal Michael
Those jetties are brilliant! Must have taken ages and many cups of tea to lay all the planks. Look forward to seeing them completed. Cheers, stay safe.
Great video Michael. There's nothing better that wood when building a model of something that was made of wood. Nothing else looks quite right. ...........................John
Hi, this is the first time I've seen your channel and subscribed without hesitation. That was a good idea using the rail joiners as lamp covers. I've just created lamp covers on an hst its on my latest video. I'm looking forward to seeing more. All the best, Lee
Hi Michael, its good to put a face the channel. boy you have been busy. like the jetty. the staithes will look fab once they are done. i use polly filler mix will wood glue for filling holes. leave proud then sand back once dry. keep up the great work be safe my friend. take care Tony.
You have done a great job so far with the jetties and good idea to make the jigs. for cutting out the supports. The work on the rest of your layout is looking great as well. Cheers for now............................Geoff
fantastic progress. Its a labour of love isn't it? I visited the sheds at Blyth in 1966 and now I live in Whitley Bay. I last ventured p there when that Deltic was working there which was surreal. Its a wonderful layout and such attention to detail and patience making those staithes. BTW where do yo get your balsa from? I've only used small amounts and generally got them from model shops when they existed. Now its Westgate Arts centre, Blackwells and that craft supplier in Silverlink.
Hi thank you for your comment, you are quite right it is a labour of love but well worth it. I was always at Cambois depot during school holidays in the 1970s. A short cycle ride from my home in Blyth to the Blyth/North Blyth ferry then what seemed a long ride from North Blyth ferry landing past 'Hughes Bolkow' ship breakers, the 'Ridley Arms' pub and the 'Grain Plant' then arriving at 'Cambois Depot' for the day, all great fun! I always get my balsa wood mail order from 'Slec UK' www.slecuk.com/index.php?route=common/home Take care Michael

Ronseal wood filler is pretty good ,comes in different shades , 100 gram tubes sold in Wilkos ,you can get other sizes ,but once opened it needs to be used , it doesn’t keep well .
Really nice job on the jetty..... I enjoyed this vid . I’ve a question Michael what is the area you keep referring to for the jetty..... best regards Fred .... ps ... how about plastic wood filler for the holes .... just a thought
Hi Fred, nice to hear from you, the area is the West Blyth high level wooden coal staiths which were situated on the river Blyth sadly now dismantled. Yes wood filler seems to be the way to go. Stay safe Michael
