I’ve been a lot attendant at a pretty nice dealership for about 2 months and I just got to drive a 2011 Lamborghini gallardo I’m only 16. But I’ve driven nice cars before that too like trackhawks, hellcats, corvettes, Camaros, and all kinds of nice cars. Fun job
After roughly 12 years of doing janitorial jobs I applied at a local dealership on indeed and was hired pretty much on the spot. I know there's delegation since a car porter/lot attendant is the entry level of getting into a dealership but I imagine it isn't that much different than from the delegation of being a janitor. Plus it has benefits out the ass too.
Benefits? Hardly. I'm 34 and work the lot at Buick/GMC. It's a low-paying job and a dead-end one too. Also you're out there in 0 to 100 degree weather. It's a shit job for anyone over 21.
GT6SuzukaTimeTrials that’s your problem buddy, you are 34 expecting a lot position to fulfill your needs as an adult lol ain’t gonna happen. Put a shirt and tie on or find a trade.
+GT6SuzukaTimeTrials That sounds like a problem with your dealership. Yeah, it's low paying. What do you expect? They hire pretty much anyone with a clean driving record. Lot porter was my first job out of high school, I did it simply for the work experience and because I liked cars. I was given the opportunity to move into sales multiple times, hell, they practically begged me to. I saw how the salesmen were treated, and the kind of hours they had to keep. No thanks.
I was a lot attendant for a year at a Subaru dealership and at first it was ok. Over time it got annoying and today I left the job for good. Feels nice not having to worry about gassing cars or driving two minutes up the street to head office all the time. Looking for keys, and always getting in and out of cars every 30 seconds just got annoying. And it’s gotten very cold here in Toronto so I’m not trying to work outside.
I worked as Lot attendant for 2 different car dealers. Worked at a Mercedes Benz dealer in downtown for just shy of a year and then a Honda Dealer in the Suburbs for about 5 months before covid hit. I liked the job, I liked that I got to drive a bunch of different cars in the day, and that I was kept moving all day never had a moment of standing around doing nothing. Mercedes was very flexible with my schedule and days offI worked full time during the summer, and then went to Saturday and Sunday during the school year, and any weekdays where I didn’t have classes they would let me come in to get more hours. Honda was very rigid with the schedule it took a lot of convincing they eventually let me work half days on days where I only had one morning class. But requesting days off was very difficult. I tried to get Christmas break off so I could go on vacation with my family, and they denied it even though I asked them 3 weeks in advance.
SpencerLowe2014 do you think being a detailer is good for a high school student with little to no knowledge on detail or do they want professionals? I'm going for an interview to become a detailer and all I'm hoping is to wash cars and clean the interiors.
It's not made up. 6 bosses? She lucky. Every manager is your boss. Every salesman hands you keys to gas up and take to detail. You have to do it because it's for the customer. Putting back their cars that don't sell because they are laying around and the look of the lot is your responsibility. She didn't mention starting from one end of a line and soldiering up the cars one by one. Line up front ends of 30 or more cars making sure they are straight. Salesmen just drop them in at whatever angle and you have to go back behind and straighten them. Much much more she didn't cover. Been working at that job for 12 years. Supposed to be a supervisor. What a joke. Cut my two guys to just me. Low pay. 12 yrs in and just got to $15/hr. Only got that because GM brought somebody else in at $2 hr more than me. Brought me up to him. I'm supposed to be his boss. He left pretty quick and he won't hire anybody else. Stay away from this job. It's the fast food of the car industry.

JC Shepherd I’m in CONNECTICUT and I work at a family owned dealership. If you work hard and do exactly what the bosses say when they say it then you’re going to do well. If not then you’ll be getting what every lot attendant does. Although I do agree I’m fortunate for where I am.
