I recently sold my AIR 2 and Mini 2 both Fly More Combos, & I bought the AIR 2S Fly More Combo and RC controller. I was going to buy the Mavic 3 Classic, but I'm going to wait until the AIR 3 comes out.
Your arguments favoring the Air 2S are strong. The niche that DJI created with this choice of components & airframe; brilliant. No one knew how much they needed it until it existed. Another group (that included me) grumbled about it being built on the bones of Mavic Air 2. Bottom line, it's THE tier between Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3 Classic. Only mistep, possibly intentional: Fixed Aperture. To combat the Autel Lite+, DJI needs to do an Air 2S+ (Ultra?) with a variable aperture 😏 -not a likely move, as Mavic Air and Air 2S are due for a refresh. Thanks for your thoughts.
Thanks for sharing your insight! I agree, the Air 2s would be a lot better with adjustable aperture but that's also what makes the Air line totally different and probably why they're able to charge less for it! I haven't had a problem with the fixed aperture (although it would be nice!)
2nd Comment ®️ - The most insane deal DJI ever offered: After RC Pro (RM510) was released, DJI discontinued the original Smart Controller RM500 and started selling an Air 2S Fly More w/vRC Pro for $1700; like getting an RC Pro for $400. People with Mavic 3 bought these kits to get the RC Pro (reg. $1200) and an Air 2S FLY MORE COMBO for $500 more! Anybway you sliced it, it was $800 off reg prices. I regret not getting it, but I had just blown $4600 on a STANDARD (not Cine) Mavic 3 Combo with 1200 of that for RC Pro. The main reason I have Air 2S, Mini 3 Pro and Mavic 3 are they all share RC (RM330), RC Pro (RM510) and RC-N1 as a backup-this is a great Ecosystem of gear!
Honestly I was so ready to buy the Mavic 3 cine Just for the RC pro controller. I despise having to use my phone as a monitor because half of the time, it doesn't work. I'm so glad they came out with a cheaper DJI RC controller that has a screen built in. DJI just knows how to improve and that was definitely a pain point for me.
@@bradenarchinuk 100% Agree. A lot of folks lament about the RC (RM330) being short on storage, a bit slow etc. All that is addressed. On the RC Pro, for $1200. You can't have it both ways. They should appreciate DJI making an affordable Controller with display, that's compatible with 6 drones by my count. 2 Mini 3's, 3 Mavic 3's and Air 2S. I was annoyed they left Mavic Air 2 orphaned, but otherwise it's brilliant.
Own the air 2s and the mini 3 pro The 1 thing is bery noticble between the 2 is the battery life I get over 36 minutes flight with mini 3 on the air 2s I get around 20mins
Yeah the new drones have so much more battery life which makes for filming a lot easier. I have three batteries for my Air 2s so it didn't bother me much but when I upgrade to the Mavic 3, it'll be nice to have that extra battery life!
I'm just starting out. I think Mavic 3 has better image quality because of the Pro-Res format rather than H264/265 which is long group. However, for my first drone, I still bought the air2s because the 1 inch sensior I believe/hope has better image quality than the mini3 pro, even though sensor MP is less than the mini 3 pro. Also the air-2s is heavier than the mini 3 pro and costs less than mavic. You may notice the image quality difference between mavic/air-2s when you need to color grade in post. Comments?
The Mavic 3 will have better quality but because of the sensor size. It has a larger sensor than the Air2s. The Pro-Res format only comes in the Mavic 3 CINE version which costs $5k. The Air2s will have better quality than the Mini 3 pro because the Air2s has a larger sensor than the Mini 3 pro. At the end of the day, all three are great tools. I think it comes down to what you're using it for. Mavic 3 is great for low budget filmmaking, Air2s is great for UA-cam and travel and the Mini 3 Pro is great for social media and travel. I think you buying the Air2s was a great decision!
@@waynelast1685 That's how I feel too haha! If I had a full drone production company or had a lot more drone work, I would buy it but for now, the Mavic 3 Classic is probably my plan! It's only $1750 and has the same quality as the Mavic 3 Cine, just without the Pro-Res codec and zoom lens. To me, it's a lot more worth it! At least until I can blow money on a more expensive drone! haha
The new DJI RC controller that just came out is such a great option. It's $300 (but is usually included in the drone packages) and has a built in screen. No more needing to use your phone (which was my biggest complaint)
Yeah I have the air 2s in my shopping cart. But I keep thinking about the M3 classic but every time I put it n my cart it’s close to 2k. vs everything I’m getting plus some lights and audio for 1300. Like classic 3 with 1 battery. Or air 2s with ND filters and mist filters. With 3 batteries. CVM shotgun mic. GVM RGB LED 45w and a 10.5 iPad Pro for my drone. And other drone accessories. All for about 1500$. Orrr mavic 3 classic with 1 battery oh and I would need 500$ more. The air 2s is out alll the other gear is way better. And I’ve seen side by side comparisons. It’s not a huge difference. You can deff tell side by side. But on its own. Most clients would never know. But I for sure want to upgrade to the classic once I start making more money.
Having both I would agree with your value analysis. Be aware that the difference in image might not be enough to justify Mavic 3 Classic cost of entry (and that IS what these drones deliver, in terms of output) But there's other considerations, depending on what is important to the buyer. The flight time is 50% more. Adjustable aperture is a must have for some (can often get exposure right without landing & swapping ND Filters) Sideways Obstacle Avoidance isn't significant until it saves your butt 😉 I know of 3 Air 2S sideways crashes among my friends. Stuff like that, and true Tripod Mode (thanks to Phillip Bloom and his petition. I guarantee that Mavic 3 is more than a very expensive camera upgrade, but it IS an expensive bit of gear, and your point, that you can get perhaps 90+ percent of the image quality for 60% of the cost.
