- Vikram Rai Bahadur is the only son of Mrs. Sharda, and sole heir to a vast business and estate. While vacationing with his artiste friend, Gogi, he meets a beautiful girl named Sunita and falls head on heels in love with her. He proposes marriage to her, and she accepts. They get married in a quiet temple ceremony and vow never to part with each other. Shortly thereafter his vehicle meets with an accident. While Gogi sustains minor injuries, Vikram is badly hurt and hospitalized, and Sunita is severely disfigured. Dr. Sahni and Dr. Mehra befriend Sunita and restore her disfigurement by plastic surgery. She quickly recovers, and can not wait to give good news to Vikram. Then she finds out that Vikram has given up on her, and is engaged in another beautiful but wealthy young woman named Rita. Vikram is unable to recognize Sunita nor is interested in knowing her Sunita decides to change her name to Kusum Mehra, and begins life again. Will Vikram and Kusum's paths cross in the future, and if so, will they be able to remember their vows?
Growing up in Nigeria in d 80s without watching Indian movies esp Sunita and Vikram wasn't worth it. We even mimicked them while singing. I love my 80s❤️👌👏🎶
Same in Gambia… I came looking for the movie but couldn’t remember the title.. nostalgia.. I’m in tears ❤️
same too. as a Nigerian and growing up in the northern part, I watched most Indian movies, little of American ones, so fond of the yesteryears actor of Bollywood.

Am still watching 2023 with this subtitles because back then we only just watch and enjoy the songs and actions
I and my brother watched it in 2009 because it was my mother's favourite movie, and we would sing and dance like Vikram and Sunita😂 recently, he sent me the link so I'm here again for this beautiful nostalgia
I remember watching this movie as a child growing up in Africa. Please hit like if you are an African watching this movie in 2019.

We all
On nooooo. Very sad.
The beautiful Poonam Dhillon (former Miss Teen India) as Sunita. She was also the tragic Bijli in _Teri Meherbaniyan_ and Bubli in _Trishul_ (1978) with Amitabh Bachchan. I understand she's now a politician. So sad to learn that Rishi Kapoor (Vikram) passed away in 2020. May his soul rest in peace.
Thanks for uploading. I wish you would also upload the following movies with their English subtitles:
Be-Reham (1982)
Trishul (1978)
The Great Gambler (1979)
Mard (1985)
Karate (1983)
These classic Bollywood movies made our childhood in Nigeria so memorable; I'd love to watch them again.
So you watched Trishul and Teri Meriyabaniyan too? Wooow!
Omg finally found the movie with English subtitles thank you I used to watch this movie with my grandparents, such a loving memory 💖💖💖
I am so glad i found this movie in 2025. One of my favourite childhood indian movies. was just telling a friend about it.I love the movie.
I've never watched a better movie that expresses the truism about the reality of love and its existence in the soul. My heart pants each time I watch it. Friends say the same, too.
So many Nigerians in this comment section. This was definitely one of our favorite movies back . RIP veekram.
I watched this movie as a child and it remains ageless till date .
Poonam Dhillon, the girl who played Sunita in this movie, was also the one who played Bijli in _Teri Meherbaniyan_ (1982) the film about the dog Moti who avenges the death of his loving master Ram. Remember it? The movie made us cry at the sad deaths of both Ram and Bijli at the hands of the evil Thakur and his sidekicks, but Moti exacts a brutal revenge on them.
Back in 1982 commercially unsuccessful movie. Sir Rishi Kapoor said due to the culture could not believe the complete transformation of heroines. How shallow the culture can be. As in so many movies Rishi Kapoor was ahead of his times. 2021 and people are still watching it because of the love story, because no one could match the legend's talent and naturality of his acting the great legend Rishi Kapoor. All the casting of actors are great, but Rishi Kapoor made this movie last and not forgotten for 39 years and probably will be watched for many more. Timeless movie with a forever one and only Bollywood legend Sir Rishi Kapoor.
Watching in 2024, still Soo fresh since the 1980s
Yeah I miss the 80s. What a golden era of everything tech, music and movies.I can't stomach. The thought that's it's been 30+ years since I first watched this movie.
A million thanks for uploading with English subtitles!! Eventhough sometimes subtitles need to be restracted to make sense it is a gem version that non Hindi speakers appreciate!
This was a classic movie in the 80's then in Naija. Is nice seeing it again and it remains so entertaining till now.

Real meaning of undying love. It's no more these days. We grew up believing in love cos of movies like this.
Thank you so much for keeping this memory alive, Yeh Vaada Raha is a movie i can never forget
This movie is too precious. My childhood, and I was born 3 years after it was made. I've watched (a few years back) the dubbed version in my language and twice yesterday before finding this one with English subs. It was nice to hear how they actually sound like and my first time actually knowing what the songs were about... but you already get the gist of it when the storyline, acting and song comes together so perfectly. My sister and I can say a line and the other one will finish it. lol. We love Yeh Vaada Raha (Sunita, as we knew it before).
I guess this was the first Indian movie I saw years back. Just typed in the tittle on the search space and I must say, I'm so glad I get to view it again.
2023 the memories of peeping via people's windows to watch this. Walking 2hours or more to other quarters. In the 80's oooh India movies were the trends
This is like reliving my childhood. Thank you so much for this
R.I.P the great actor Rishi Kapoor 😢
Yeh Vaada Raha will always be my favourite... ❤️

A classic!!!
Also reminds me of my late pops who bought the movie for us and a few other.
I love you pops ( Joseph Okekenwa Umeh)😭. Hope to see you again.
May your Pops rest in peace. My Dad also bought this for us. But used to watch with mom who's late now. There's something about the movie that brings up so many bitter sweet memories for many of us who watched it as children.
Vikram never gave up on Sunita. Love never gives up. Love always wins! I'll always love this movie and will play it for my children. Thank you Zoa Ni. People are complaining about the subtitle but I wanna say thank you for the attempt. It helped me understand the story a lot better. Only try and re-do it if possible.
When I was a teen, she was my biggest crush lol. Tina was gorgeous!
Watched this movie first in 1985 along with Gezab in Nigeria. Now its 2019 and it still makes me cry, makes me happy and gives hope like it did back then.
Waooo, exactly the same year I watched it. My first and welcoming movie into the Indian world...
It's a Hollywood Remake
We say this movie is so good because it brings back so many memories of our childhood and when life was so simple. I too have seen this movie since I was a very little girl and it does bring back so many memories. I miss those days. At this time of pandemic we need simple again.
I think this version is better than the American version. I personally think this is one of India's BEST movie ever made. Everything just fits perfectly...actors/actress/setting...and pretty much the most well known India music to the rest of the world. Love it!
yaaasss.....great love story and that's why I honor him on my channel
thanks for the subtitled version, it means so much to me. This movie makes me nostalgic, i.watched it more than 10 times when I was about 8 or 9years old. I sing all the song and u will think i speak Hindi. it was so silly seeing how serious we take it.. oooo good fond memories

RIP, Rishi Kapoor. On the night of April 29th, I was watching this same movie on another UA-cam channel and told my 5 year old son about my fav indian movie, Yeh Vaada Raha. We watched it together and he enjoyed it so much. He loved the clapping code Sunita and Vicky shared! Sadly, I had no idea we would wake up the next morning to the news of his death. RIP, my Hero🌹🌹🌹
Growing up in Nigeria in the early 80's was great with lots of movies like this. Yeh Vardar Raya hope I spelled it right, was #1 in every home.

My best movie. Would go to my uncle's every weekend to be able to watch thjs on vhs.
Tina Muniam was sooo preety. I always thought she looked like an American Indian girl since i was little when this movie first came out. Her hair, her style, just her total look. She would have totally blended in here in the US.
20 years later I’m back looking for the movie 🍿 😭
