I have an OshKosh plow truck its an old EX-NAVY truck, its got a CAT 6 cylinder diesel in it and with the V-Plow on it that truck weighs almost 40K pounds, the ballast box itself is 7K pounds
Great to see the Men Pulling together to get the Country Moving again, Nowadays they'd just shrug n think naw. Fantastic Video and Heartening to see the Team Work
What a great video. Wonderful that you have the original movie of your dad and that great snow plowing truck. Who took the movies, do you know. A part of american life most people today have no knowledge of. I grew up in Maine with Oshkosh snowplows and I will never forget them.
We're out there. I operated a 60's Walter with a V and right side wing for 20 years, as a side job. I know a few guys that have, with FWD, Walter, and Oshkosh. I know what you're saying, though. I'm in my mid 50's. Not too many younger guys. Most towns today can't afford the expense of these trucks. They go cheaper. Properly kept up, you'd get 50 years easy, out of these trucks. The new stuff out there, like International, etc, can't compare.
In those days, standard procedure was to use an enormous block of concrete, usually no taller than the sides of the dump box, and I bet that's what they had here.

Great video! Ross plow equipment?
The needed a little weight in the bed for traction like a couple yards of sand for ballest
