I feel like the writers didnt care about the main couple, and thus did not make us care. Friends to lover is such a great trope when done well, they could have given us flashback of them as kids, make Colin work more to convince Penelope, having her reject him at first, you could have seen him fight for her more, spend more time with her...Like honestly, they were so many ways they could have made their story better, but they choose to spend lots of times on mostly useless storyline. Dont get me wrong I enjoyed some of them, but the main force of Bridgerton is supposed to be romance, not plot or social commentary. When they try to do everything, everything end up being average imo.

    • @Creative_mess4

      Yeah! My thoughts exactly.
I was so excited to see the bridgertons also interacting more, like maybe Ant giving Colin advice concerning Colin's feelings towards Pen and maybe Kate teasing Ant for his not great advice or Idk Ben making fun of Colin because Pen is enjoying time with her suitor, because of what Colin said last season and now feels towards her or how he helped pen get a suitor in the first place...
The series is called Bridgerton for heaven's sake. Give me more hilarious and sweet family moments. Not some unnecessary side plots I could not care less for.
And it's one thing for Pen to forgive Colin relatively fast, but couldn't Colin at least get scolded by his family for his careless words?? Sure Colin was a bit jealous, but were is the sweet suffering that eventually pays off nicely in their lovestory?? Colin basically just gets what he wants after ruining Pen's proposal... he did nothing to earn Pen.

The random threescore did feel force and I am not sure if it was purposively or not but it connects to the fact that Colin himself felt completely out of place. He thought that those were the things that a guy need to do to become more manly or be praised. Also, the way he described hooking up in his journal, it felt like he enjoyed it but he wanted real emotional intimacy. I mean when pen reads the part, he mentions how it feels so distant. Colin was trying to mimic the people in his friends group. The problem is not that he was sleeping around but problem us the fact that he didn't really felt fulfilled. This was completely different for Simon and Anthony as fir them sleeping around was more about their internal conflicts rather than wanting to show off

Hmm, I wonder if the showrunner and producers were aware of the split season when S3 was written and shot? It might've forced them to re-edit in a way that felt less than organic to the storylines and character arcs. I'm withholding judgement until Part 2 airs.

Something I keep forgetting to bring up.
The two characters who had disabilities felt like tokens to me.
Yes, they don’t need entire storylines but considering people with disabilities barely get representation or proper ones, it felt like a slap to the face to me that they are there for 2 seconds and that’s it.
Do agree about the lady danbury and Penelope storyline. They may add that in part 2, but it should have been earlier.

I agree about Penelope and Colin’s lack of character development. Neither of them give main character energy this season. I blame the new showrunner.
I disagree with your thoughts on the Mondriches. They bring new energy to the boring and stuffy ton.
They should’ve cut Benedict’s scenes with his lady friend. I’m not invested because: 1) We don’t know the woman and 2) What is Benedict’s purpose? Does he still paint? Is he looking for love or simply bored? Save it for next season.
They should’ve cut most of Cressida’s scenes. I’m tired of bullies/villains getting redemption arcs. I don’t care that her father is an asshole. She has bullied Pen for years. Spilling a drink on Pen and tearing her dress is something that can cause someone as ridiculed and isolated as Pen to unalive themselves. And for the life of me I don’t know why Eloise is friends with her.

I totally agree! And I BEG Colin and Pen's development to be the main focus in these next four episodes!!! I feel like Colin started to feel ATTRACTION and not LOVE for Pen, does that make sense? I wanted to see him suffering because he didn't see all this time that he had a hot, BUT ALSO charming, funny and intelligent woman right in front of him! I believe that in the fifth episode Eloise will tell Colin about Pen being Lady Whistledown and from then on the development will be better, even though he feels betrayed he will feel intrigued by Pen, this will make her more honest with him about her feelings about him and about society, after all, no one has a problem saying horrible things to her without considering her feelings, but she needs to consider their feelings when she is Lady Whistledown??? I hope she is as firm with Colin as she was in the books
And what the fuck was Benedict's plot with that random woman?

I liked so far and we still have 4 more episodes. But i do agree they could have given Polin more scenes together because it was so great the ones they did together, the chemistry was so good & i didn't care for Cressida nor Mondrichs. Colin fake Rake person was intentional, though. He's supposed to feel off as a rake because he's trying to be someone he is not. That's exactly what LW/PEN said about him in her writings. He's soft and sensitive, a sweet guy, but he thinks he shouldn't be and pretends to be someone else. So it is supposed to feel odd and unconvincing.

You’re amazing getting out 3 back to back videos right after the season’s premiere. I love to see Black stories but I literally did not care anything about the Mondrich’s plot line! AT ALL! Everytime we came back to them, I was confused on why they were bumped up to almost lead status. I agree they should have just had a throwaway line in Lady Whistledown about them and maybe a cut to them moving in. Everything else wasn’t needed besides maybe showing the 1 scene that there’s some contention about Mondrich still working. Use all that wasted screen time to develop Lord Debling and Pen’s relationship to oppose Polin. Or build up Colin’s personality and growing attraction to Pen. This season is already dividing up attention between Polin and Francesca’s romance. We don’t need anymore pointless subplots.

I’m honestly disappointed that they turned Colin’s character into a superficial charmer who sleeps around. Anthony did it and we still see Benedict doing it. Colin is supposed to be the “sensitive” guy, which they had Violet speak on but didn’t show. To your point, we don’t need to see him turn into a rake to see that he’s grown since season 1 and that he’s now “attractive”.

I felt exactly the same. Thank you for putting all my feelings together. As someone who hasn't read the books, Colin doing a 180 felt very weird. I was trying to explain to my husband why Anthony was different because we did have a couple of sex scenes with him during season 2, but they were very brief and felt more like he was just taking care of his needs and leaving immediately. I agree that I would have been more accepting of Colin's had they been a part of his travels rather than something he was doing up until 48 hrs of getting with Penelope.

This was not Francesca’s season, this was not Cressida’s season, this was not the Montrege family’s season, this was not Violet’s season, this was not Benedict’s season. So many sub-plots geez. And how did we move from him not liking her to loving her because of a simple kiss and even dreaming about her. They rarely even spent any time together, there was no build up of emotions, a cut and tending to the cut to a kiss and then marriage proposal. It was from 0-100. I’m just exhausted. This was meant to be their season yet it was EVERYONE’S season, and they got less than 5% screen time. So sad.

So I don’t know if anyone else will see this comment, but after some time and reflection, I’ve come back to talk about how they could rectify this underdevelopment of Colin and Penelope by exploring themselves and their identity within the relationship. So we have them having conversations about Colin’s writing and how he should seriously pursue it as a career. Colin at first is like I’m not good enough at it to truly pursue it as a career, but we have Penelope encouraging him and he decides to pursue it. Maybe even during their conversation, he asks her in turn about her writing, he’s like her “writing is also very good” and we have Penelope saying “you can’t be serious” and he encourages her in turn. He’s like, “out of all the letters I’ve received in my life, yours were always the most beautifully written and the most poignant. Out of all the women of the ton, you have the sharpest tongue and the sharpest wit, it is high time the rest of the ton know that”. Fully establish that dynamic of them encouraging each other to pursue their dreams and embrace their true identities. And also establishing the fact that Colin is the only one that recognises this LW side of her, he just hasn’t put two and two together. The next episode is him on a high, he’s gone to a publisher with his journals in hopes of them getting published, he’s with his brothers for a bachelor party celebrating soon getting married to Penelope. It all comes crashing down when he finds out about Pen being LW (however he does, I just want him to find out before they marry). Then episode 7 is when we deal with the aftermath of the fallout, sad, brooding Colin and pensive and apologetic Pen. Strangely enough, I want it to be Eloise that helps them get back together somehow but I also want it to be Penelope taking accountability. Episode 8
(At least the latter half) is them together in an us against the world type of deal and we get them walking arm in arm in the masquerade ball as Pen reveals that she is Lady Whistledown. Queen Charlotte, to everyone’s surprise doesn’t do anything to her, she allows her masquerade ball to continue (i think in the part 2 trailer there was a hint of a masquerade ball, but even so, I think there will be a reveal at the Queen’s ball because they wouldn’t just leave the whole LW witch-hunt thing as a loose end)

    • @notevenfunny_
      @notevenfunny_ 4 місяці тому +2

I think what would really be poignant and just all around beautiful is that we get these two messes of people getting together without knowing who they themselves are, they are exploring that within the relationship itself. We get a new dynamic of two messes who are insecure within themselves but are so accepting of the other person, and they build each other up and just immediately accept that the other is a mess before getting into a relationship. With the other two dynamics of the previous season, they had their own separate character arcs before they finally got together. In this one, we get a relationship where they are still two beautiful messes trying to figure it out. For me personally, if part 2 goes this route, they would be the best couple of Bridgerton series. It would just be so real and so raw, because we in real life do not figure stuff out about ourselves before getting together with someone. We’re messes that decide to get into relationships because love (romantic or platonic) is what we crave and what we want from life. And we know if we find it, we should never let it go, even if we’re the beautiful messes we are. What makes you deserve your significant other is wanting to actively work on yourself and not having everything figured out already, if that makes sense.

Okay, so I really loved part 1. It took me a long time to get through it because I was rewinding and re-watching parts and screaming and it was so good. However, I do think that it could have been longer. Especially Colin and Penelope‘s scenes together. I love that they incorporated the drawing room scene from the book and added the lessons part, but I thought it would be much longer. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been clowning over the season for months now and was following along with promos and your podcast that I didn’t realize what they showed us in promo was all there was to the scene. I feel like there could’ve been more added, especially the drawing room scene. I wanted to see more lessons and more interactions between them and I think they missed that opportunity; especially considering the episodes were between 52 to 58 minutes. They made us wait over 2 years. It could’ve been an hour 15. I would love to see the parts that they cut out because I know it would be so good.
I really liked episode 3 and 4 the most because that’s the two I knew the least about. Maybe that’s just me because I hate spoilers. Though, my favorite scene of part 1 is their first kiss. I was SCREAMING!!! I will forever love that scene and was analyzing every bit of it before I moved on. Overall, it felt a bit rushed in the beginning and I can see how people would struggle to follow Colin as he began to fall in love with Penelope because we didn’t really see that. We just saw him realize that he was in love, but not how that came to be. I hope that makes sense.
I also don’t feel the same fire to watch part 2 the way I did for part 1 because of how it ended. There wasn’t really a plot twist or cliffhanger. If they really wanted to end it there it wouldn’t be upsetting because from the last scene, Penelope looked like she was going to say yes. Plus, I really loved the idea of Penelope saying no and they cutting it off there. I was really hoping that would’ve happened. Of course, I still want part 2 though.
Also, I don’t really care for the other characters right now, except for Polin. This is partly because I feel like they didn’t give everyone else much to do. Benedict is once again with another woman, but it would’ve been more interesting if we got to see him pursue his art; it just feels like every season is another woman. It doesn’t feel like he has a story. I really do like Eloise though. Everything just feels unfinished and that’s likely due to the season being split in half. Everything just felt fast-paced and rushed especially episode 2. (Except the kiss!!)
Anyways, I’m going to go rewatch part 1 again. Because Polin was still so good and I want to see if rewatching will change my mind. Hopefully this time without pausing every two minutes. 🤭

I totally agree! I read the book the season's supposed to be based on and I thought that while Shondaland has developed Colin's character better in terms of red flags, I think that the book did a better job at developing Colin and Pen's relationship. While getting to see storylines for other characters can be a nice break from more intense romantic scenes it shouldn't take up so much time that could be used to develop the relationship of the couple the season is supposed to focus on. I think that Bridgerton tends to have a difficult time learning to balance heavy romance scenes or heavy emotional scenes in general with fluff storylines about other members of the ton. I think that season one had far too many steamy scenes and far too little world development and while I did enjoy watching Simon and Daphne's relationship develop I would've liked a bit more breaks from the very emotionally intense scenes but the total amount of other storylines was good. Season three has the opposite problem, spending way too much time developing what should be fluff storylines about the ton that will prepare certain characters for their more important roles in later seasons and giving far too little time to Polin. It makes them less believable as a couple and I hope that the second part of season 3 will improve upon some of those things.
Your Bridgerton analysis is always so spot on and I've begun to watch them more than rewatches of season 3

I want more arc of his sensitive side, even Violet said he is the sensitive kid, I also saw a comment on a different video where someone said they would like to see the impact of their fathers death on Colin, I think he is sensitive on purpose because he knows Anthony can’t show that because he is the oldest and his mom and sisters needs that emotional support. Maybe he also wanted to go to college but saw Benedict wanted it more, maybe he saw his mother crying and comforted her I NEED SENSITIVE COLIN. i was annoyed that instead of a “learning to value herself outside of society’s standards and then find someone who sees you and loves you for who you are” type of thing, (which maybe is what they were trying to do?) pen’s arc seems to be “learn to conform to society’s standards and find value in your appearance, the man you love will only love you if you have a hollywood blowout and nice makeup” type of thing. like, the makeover trope feels outdated and not empowering, considering how much they’re reducing pen to the “nerdy/intellectual ugly duckling” stereotype i wish they would at least resolve it in a way that gives her character more depth. to be clear im glad she has some nice dresses now and feels better about her appearance and i think it’s fine to care about fashion and stuff, but why did that feel like the only character development she got, (other than having beef with eloise), as well as the main thing that changed colin’s mind about how he saw her? speaking of eloise - i feel like they’re doing the same thing with her character, i’m all for women reclaiming their femininity and working through internalized misogyny but im afraid they’re watering eloise down to “she just needs to wear prettier dresses and learn to value romance and be happy as a Lady”

I enjoy the critical takes cause it wasn’t as good as it could and should have been. Aside from them failing to really show what’s going on inside with Colin and why he does what he does and how he feels (FRUSTRATING - they could have done so much more with it)!!!
Yes, pacing, lighting and make up / clothes were often off more than not sadly. Hit and miss with a few scenes and characters.
But yeah not fully invested yet, hope it‘ll change. ( 3:12 agreed, also Pen is a virgin, he knows this, and then he just fingers her - with consent at least) - wildly in a carriage like cmon? shouldn’t he be more considerate, even if she thinks she wants this? like she’s in love for like a decade, she ain’t thinking straight haha so yeah mhhhh and then he immediately proposes to her but is it cause of lust or he feels obligated or cause he realised in 1 episode that he loves her? The pace was crazy, the pining not enough, and like he goes to brothels and she has been kissed for the first time just recently and bam bam bam signed sealed delivered after a quickly in a moving vehicle, pls be serious haha 8:00 agreed, it needed three more episodes between him realising he’s jealous and their kiss and then the proposals 😅
Love Benedict‘s scenes, Bridgerton family scenes and Francesca. Oh and off Kanthony. Besides the main couple. The rest I didn’t need 😂

Exactly, I think what happened this season is that the producers found themselves with the decision that the last few seasons have had a predominant racial diversity in the protagonist, through interracial couples. and now they had this white couple, they had two options, or do the normal season. Like the previous one and the first, or include that diversity through subplots. They chose the worst. If it was really necessary, even if it had been a failed or unfruitful romance; Lord Debling was the best option. Make him a better character, make him PoC, make him sexy... it doesn't matter that in the end Penelope chose Colin. But the Mondrich family subplot, and even the Franchesca subplot, felt intrusive to the pacing.
This season should have focused on Penelope and the Featheringtons (Who should have been elevated to the lead roles, not continue having the comic subplot).
    And Colin.

I actually liked these 4 episodes a lot, the only scenes I didn’t care for actually were the boxer and his wife being in that new place and then Penelope’s family. I think all these scenes with those characters were shown too much. I think showing maybe 1 or 2 scenes of them would’ve been fine and I liked seeing Ben talking to the boxer and his wife at the parties but maybe just one scene of them alone at the house annoyed that their apart and then one where they just stick together anyway. And with Penelope’s family they should’ve had just a few scenes talking about having kids and fighting about it spaced out throughout. They showed up too much for me. I did love some of these scenes but I found myself skipping some especially with the boxer

I don't mind that there are sub-plots, but I do believe the writers focused too much on the sub-plots this season. Even cutting one of the sub-plots would have allowed the writers to elaborate more on Colin and Penelope. One thing I was really looking forward to was flashbacks to when Colin and Penelope were young and we have yet to get that, which is disappointing. I would like to say that the scenes that had either Colin or Penelope or both of them were absolutely breathtaking. The only sub-plot that understandably focused on was Francesca and John, but for the life of me I can not figure out how Will and Alice's son becoming an Earl has any importance to the overall plot of the season. I love both Will and Alice as characters, but their whole plot could have been a short narration by Lady Whistledown.

I am not opposed to social commentary in a series, but bridgerton is not one of those series. If it turns out that francesca's future love interest is a women it wouldn't make much sense in the social context of the time. Deborah, I agree with your review. To many plots crammed into these first 4 episodes. The first mistake made was skipping Benedict's story. While they told his love story they could have continued to explain Colin and Pen's relationship. The first 2 season's had flashbacks which explained the back story on the characters. It would have made more sense to include that instead of all the other plots which make no sense. This is poor writing and decisions made by the powers that be. Colin and Penelope are supposed to be the stars of this season. Their story is being rushed, and overshadowed by these other plots. I am very disappointed after all of the hype. IMO, NETFLIX is making a huge blunder splitting up the season. Now it will become even more fragmented than it currently is. I am so disappointed in the writing and editing of this season. They tried to spice up this season by making Colin into a "rake" which is completely out of character for him. Instead it overshadows a beautiful love story.

I feel the show makers did not have enough confidence in putting Nicola as the face of season 3. Just how Pheobe and Simon fit right into the pop vanity and the showrunners acted as hypocrites luring us in for a Polin love story and yet there was less of pen’s lovestory and hell lot of Mondrich drama, Marcus drama, Collin’s - let’s make him look like the new rack in town- drama, cressida’s struggle drama, Prudence and Phillipas pregnancy drama ……OMG
And so much of Francesca & Benedict with their side love trajectory
Did the showrunners really not consider how in love are we with Pen’s character! There was hardly any depth in the colin tutoring her to charm, hardly any time to give couple of more shots for that.
We get the pen already burnt for collin in the last 2 seasons and this was collin’s turn to feel the burn… but did he burn enough? What was with the unnecessary naked brothel scenes, we get polin wasn’t going to have nude scenes, but that’s not what we are looking for! Stop pushing nude scenes down our throats just for the sake of it!
Now coming back to pen & collin- they have been friends for ever. The could have shown it evolve into care and temderness and longing from collin’s end to pen feeling in her gut that collin might have started seeing her differently. Some shots of them interacting with each other between crossing the line and yet not!
OMG- that carriage scene could have been a gem but it was so damn rushed. Like one moment they are friends and the other he is reaching her up the skirt🤦‍♀️
    Like seriously?
Pen deserves the same vanity and attention ! I only have a jibe with the show runners for not giving pen even 4 full episodes to have a good plot development where as the previous couples had a whole season for them!

For violet, I would literally prefer a spin off where we see her younger self falling in love and paralleled to it her older self falling in love again, kind of like they did for Charlotte. But DON'T INCLUDE IT WHEN I NEED TO SEE POLIN. also, WHY Wasn't there any interaction between Lady Danbury and Penelope, I wanted that so much . This season feels so incomplete and fast. I mean nicola and luke did their best to show the intense feelings but it isn't their fault that the show is pacing them. I believe it when Colin confessed his feelings, I believed it when he was pining for her but the carraige scene should have been episode 5th or 6th. I would have loved to see their first meeting, even though I really liked the way Colin described it. I did wish that they showed Colin being on his travels and then sleeping around. I know it really doesn’t kick off until book 4, but not even a hello is passed between them. Also, lad Danbury has been a mentor to the love interest in season 1 and 2 and even a little in the spinoff because she gives Queen Charlotte the talk and helps he navigate her fears about consummating the marriage. Like she is there all over the mentoring thing. And she mentors the hell out of Penelope in the books. She helps Penelope get more confident. That wasn’t from a man loving her. That was from a woman relating to her and helping her see that she is all that and a bag of chips. Penelope even names her first born after her and they haven’t had a conversation yet? 1. Colin's lessons to Pen were revealed way too fast to the ton = less Polin scenes.
    2. The show focused more on preparing for the Lady Whistledown wild goose chase, leading us to watching more of the Mondrich family and Cressida scenes to know their motivation as to why they want the 5,000 pounds reward.
What I don't understand is that they could have done both things with equal amount of care and attention:
S1-S2 was actually also given 8 episodes only, and the pacing has always been great for each love story. The Mondrich family, the Featheringtons, etc. also had scenes of their own at the same time. Per episode is 50 minutes and some lasts A FULL HOUR.
For this season however, each episode are only 50 minutes long. Each.
This only means they could have easily added more Polin scenes if they wanted to, and it would only equal to an hour and 15 minutes for a few episodes just like what S1 and 2 did!
So it would have been the perfect opportunity to make Colin's lessons last a bit longer; Pen gets to successfully talk to MORE bachelors; a few more Lord Debling interactions, all while keeping the Mondrich, Cressida, Francesca, and Benedict scenes that we see now - they don't even need to remove anything. THEN they could finally do the big public reveal of Colin helping out Pen THEN the moonlight kiss scene THEN the pining THEN the carriage scene.

    • @JMTgpro
      @JMTgpro 4 місяці тому +7

      What I felt was missing:
      1.- More lesson time.
2.- Penepole looking more desperate, perhaps using Lady Whistledown as a tool in his favor, until the climax where he has to use her against her (As it half happened).
3.- More intrigue regarding the use of Lady Whistledown. This is Penelope and Colin's season, we should have experienced that stress of writing and publishing gossip. Scenes of her listening, writing and her relationship with the publisher. Maybe a flashback of how it all started.
To tell the truth, an arch.
This season's trope was friends to lovers. They could have made the motivation of
Lady Whistledown was born with Colin, to intertwine the romance with Penelope's double life. Anyway... This season could have been quite intense with Lady Whistledown who was supposed to be the protagonist and this season she almost didn't appear.

    • @JMTgpro

@@emzillaa It's just that this was supposed to be lady whistledown season. It was the best time to launch a plot of intrigue with persecutions, revealed secrets, revelations and mysteries with Penelope and Colin in the middle of the hurricane, while the most intimate part of their friendship was revealed.
And it's not that this series couldn't do something like that, the first season there were like two duels, three physical fights... I mean, a season with more intrigue and mysteries to put Penelope in front of the drama, like Lady Whistledown, would have been ideal. The problem more than the subplots, I think, was the season division. Instead of having 8 episodes to develop the intrigue, romance and subplot. They decided to take 4 for the romance, and I think 4 to reveal Lady Whistledown. Which is terrible, it should have been a continuous 8 hour sequence.

I find it honestly kind of insulting the way they handled these first 4 episodes. I didn't come in as a die-hard Polin shipper, but I knew they had a pretty dedicated fandom & was excited to see why bc I hadn't read the books. So if /I/ was disappointed, I can only imagine how disappointed some Polin shippers are. They fed us so well in the first 2 seasons in regards to the main couple, but this season so far has given us crumbs. I didn't read the books but I did dive into a lot of explainers on the books so I had an idea of what to look forward to. It feels like all the writers did was try to hit the Big Scenes in the book & didn't really put much effort bridging those scenes together. I hate it because I love Nicola Coughlan and I was really looking forward to her getting all her own season, and I was excited to really be immersed in their dynamic because this is the first season where we've been given the chance to already know and love both characters beforehand. Instead it seems like people behind the scenes got lazy since Polin already has a pre-established relationship.
Also this all feels lowkey kind of fatphobic. Because there should be no reason for them to have done Polin dirty like this, not when they have some of the most vocal & rabid shippers. If anything they would've gone above and beyond to cram in as much Polin as possible. But the one time their lead isn't tall & skinny, suddenly they're cutting down on the main couple's scenes? Also the journal scene should’ve been a place to develop Colin. Was too short. Should’ve been them sitting down and having a really huge conversation about Colin’s writing. After Pen says “You writing is really good”, Colin should’ve responded with shock, like “really?”. “Really. I would love to read more of it should you allow me.” Colin lights up with excitement immediately, “in fact, that I feel is not my best writing.” Pen lights up with excitement in response. “Really?”
With the bandage still in his hand, he stands up to grab the journal off the desk and flips the page to his descriptions of Paris, walking down the street and contemplating his purpose in life and how he fits onto this planet. Something that gave insight to his brain without him fully talking about it. Pen reads it, hands him back the journal and asks him “have you ever thought about pursuing writing?” Colin responds with a solemn “heavens no. I do not think it wise to condemn others to such a horrible fate. I only showed you because I know you will not judge. You are the kindest person I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting, Penelope..” Pen responds with an earnest “you should know I do not throw out compliments just for anyone. I am with you on the Mondrich family. I do love them and I like the characters and I like how they struggle to fit in once they become apart of the elite class. However, I didn’t like that the mom and dad were constantly thinking about themselves. Their son is a child who just got thrusted into a title that he was never groomed for. Don’t you think they should be way more cautious and understanding that their position is because of him. They don’t mention their son at all after he becomes Baron. They act like they have the title. It really rubbed me the wrong way. Their story should have been more concerned about how to navigate this new world in regard to their son’s reputation within it. No, they could not do everything they wanted. They’re new to society, their son is a new Baron and they should have been way more concerned about the things that they did for the sake of their children. Especially since they were not the ones that inherited the title. 😅

THIS!!!!! They spent too much time on this storyline…it didn’t really make me care about them at all. I totally agree they had the parents act as if THEY were the ones holding the title instead of their young son. The father deciding on whether or not to keep his bar/lounge….who cares!!!

What I hate tho is the general disappointment for this season is being projected into the lead couple/actors, saying that there was no chemistry or that luke newton couldnt act (FALSE both btw) or that they wanted kanthony instead and turning it into shipwars. The criticism should be about the pacing and how we didnt see the main lead often BECAUSE they were good together. it’s literally not their fault that the editing in this show was being so off. I feel like someone meddled lin the editing room a bit too much tbh and it’s really discrediting the actors’ performance.

The ones that say they have no chemistry or the acting was bad are bullshitting. The scene under the tree where pen says that they can’t continue their lessons any longer got me in the feels. The reluctance and confusion Colin faces as he realises he has fallen for her and then the pain in his eyes as he watches her walk away really gave me the heart ache. Even the midnight randevous and carriages scenes, even though a bit rushed, hit the spot. They just weren’t given enough screen time and thus development like Kathy and Anthony did

    • @360shadowmoon
      @360shadowmoon 4 місяці тому +1

Yeah those people are wrong. Luke and Nicola are great actors and have great chemistry. Netflix made some weird decisions (like deciding to release the episodes separately) that negatively affected the pacing.

  • @angelarisoldi2952

They shot themselves in the foot with having 2 parts. It didn’t give enough time to make the cliff hanger very believable. I think it needed at least one more episode to really set in that they are in love etc etc. Not to mention, some choices they made, like having people find out about him coaching her and having that result in them not doing it anymore really killed the momentum they had going. I don’t understand the point of doing that? At least have it be a secret for a bit longer, but again, the 4 episode limit made it really hard for the pacing to make sense

PERIOD! This is the Era of POLIN! And the fact that after the end of each season we barley see the characters ever again.... is actually so disappointing. It sucks that they have a new director for this season because the vibes of the show feels so OFF! Like why introduce so many plot lines when there is a THRIVING established story line!!! I needed to see Pen and Colin talk about their feelings before jumping into a proposal 😭

Girl you nailed it, you said EXACTLY what I felt watching this season so far. It was rushed and I felt there were side characters in their season (too many side characters get more screen time), no build up for their story even in carriage scenes I haven’t felt that he loved her so much, also in the book the first kiss change something in him while in the show you don’t feel that, hopefully the second part is better than this.

    1. The scenes we could have cut.
Cressida’s family life and scenes with her and Eloise after episode 2.
    2. Of course, his threesome scenes were unnecessary and odd.
    3. A couple of the modrich scenes. I would keep the ones that deal with Bendetict and his arc.
I agree, taking these scenes out helps build up more of Penelope’s and Colin’s relationship including him finding out about LW earlier which can also help Eloise calm down a bit.

I think the Cressida and Eloise dynamic is interesting, but I think it should’ve been introduced this season and not just *there* all the sudden. If it had been a slow burn of Eloise seeing her as a whole person who has such a dark history, it would’ve been intriguing and we would’ve eventually rooted for Cressida, but they kind of kept her somewhat devious and it’s hard to understand what the hell Eloise is so charmed by…?

I agree, but also think Francesca is taking up too much screen time instead of Polin and Benedict… It feels like she is the main couple character and it is odd because we havent seen her at all the first two seasons but have been following Bens self identity discovery. It feels like Ben put aside due to the new Fran actress (I like the actress but the timing is off, would have been better if she was given more scenes of a similar to Hyacinth and Gregory, and eased into the family dynamic)
Are they trying to merge the Polin and Fran books?

They had Colin give a quick little "When you leave home you get to reinvent yourself. I did that." moment and then didn't actually really remember to make it evident if Colin is "faking it" to maybe be more like his brothers or if he "became himself" abroad. So the messages are mixed. His refusal to give the boys any real details about his sexual trysts, even before he began realizing he was in love with Penelope, leads me to believe that it was meant to be the former. But they could have tried harder to drive it home.

  • @eimyatnoe9209
    @eimyatnoe9209 4 місяці тому +18

Yes! I feel like the writers got lazy and thought they could give more screen time to others and less to the main characters because the audience has known Pen and Colin. But that was a huge mistake. We've only seen glimpses of them. Their romance is new to us and to Polin too. Daphne and Simon were engaged after episode 4. Kate and Anthony's story was great after episode 4. So They CAN build up a romance within 4 episodes. It's 4 HOURS yet Pen and Colin were barely there. I wanted to see more of them. And I don't feel the tensions like I was after watching 4 episodes of the season 1 and 2. Honestly, people like the couple because the actors are good. The show just has luck rn, especially with unnecessary subplots.
Like what's the point of the Monrichs? They are never gonna get a main story and they are hurting the main characters. It's not worth it. The only reason I can think of is they are some sort of replacement for Daphne and Simon? But they have no real connection to the main characters. Colin is never gonna go to them like he went to Daphne for advice in the book.
And what's up with Benedict's hook-up? Like just show he's sleeping around or sth. We all know Benedict and that lady isn't endgame or serious. So why give it screen time? They should have done Benedict's story first if they don't know what to do with Benedict.

I think the whole point of Colin flirting was because his swagger is fake, he is putting a facade which slowly gets faded away as he is falling in love with Pen evident when whistledown called him faker and violet straight up told him to put down his armour he is wearing to please others and that scene where he said in Will's club that it's tiring pretending to be someone he is not.
I think that was the whole point of showing his over the top swagger.

I agree!! I did NOT care enough about that man and his damn bar tf😭. Like this season needed time to work on the lead couple. I feel like a major reason behind this seasons success is the chemistry between the lead actors because the writing is mediocre at best😭😭 additionally friends to lovers is tricky in the sense that the audience needs a lot more character development to truly love it and they didnt give these characters enough screentime LIKE😃
also considering how interesting penelope's character is they could have easily done an in depth plot into the character's psychology

I didn’t like any of the side stories.
I didn’t like how Colin proposed like “you gonna marry me or what?” 🙄. He did not woo Penelope like other lead ladies in previous seasons were woo’d.

Colin doesn't know that Pen is Lady Whistledown yet, though. The trailer for part two shows Eloise telling Penelope that she has "until midnight" at some party to tell Colin the truth about being Whistledown. So that's still an issue between them.
I don't, personally, feel like there was too much Cressida considering her new role as a friend to Eloise and a love rival to Penelope. They had a lot of work to get the audience to at least consider empathizing with her. I was so sad to learn that never in her life has a friend called on her. After 2 seasons and Queen Charlotte of watching the women of the Ton call on each other as friends it sort of broke my heart to know Cressida never had someone visit her as a friend. The scene with her dad made me remember that so many of these women were the products of their parents. Cressida's mother seems like she's ready to just give up on helping her daughter find a nice match. Don't get me started on her father. I liked Cressida admitting that she fell into the trap of women pitting themselves against each other and she started actually doing better. She didn't tell the other women the gossip about Pen even though just 2 weeks earlier she would have been tripping over herself to ruin Penelope with that. When Eloise just bluntly accused her of it (which is understandable but also for someone reminding Cressida constantly about being too cruel, she still struggles to measure her OWN words.) Cressida shut her down & I thought that would be the end of it but she STILL was Eloise's friend. LIKE? The growth worked for me and at first I was MISERABLE at the idea of more Cressida. But they turned me around.
The Mondriches can be a compelling story but it didn't fit in this season. Benedict and his affair with the (very agreeable to look at) widow also ... feels like it's not going anywhere.
Also it has nothing to do with anything but I have a crush on Harry Dankworth. I love a pretty person who is adorably dumb so he just does it for me.
The romance was ... rushed. I did not start part one expecting them to technically be ENGAGED by the close of the first half. After how loooooooooooooong Anthony took, Colin felt like he was doing a marathon with Pen. Season 2 was dragging out the romance, season 3 is rushing the romance.
