waykool698 Bad thing is that many stones, regular sand, your house wall, bricks, concrete etc. is the same as sanding paper or contains very hard materials in it. Therefore in real life situations you will scratch it very easily. This ion glass bs is just rebranding by apple of so called mineral glass very well known in watch industry. And it scratches slowly and steadily. Sapphire glass doesn't, I have been wearing swiss watch for over 5 years daily and there is not even a microscopic scratch, yet the steel case and band is highly scratched which I think adds charm to my watch as long as there is no scratch on the glass.

Martin R I have to disagree with you, having watch is much more convenient than taking out your phone out of the pocket every time and they add style to a gentlemen. Ofcourse I am not talking about this apple crap which is made out of shitty materials and looks disgusting.

Unbox Therapy That's not fucking steel wool in any capacity. "Green Steel Wool" only comes up with a few images of that because other people are just as foolish as you. If you google "Scotch Brite Pad", which is exactly what that is, you get INFINITLY MORE IMAGES OF EXACTLY THAT, along with the official listings and tons of stores selling exactly what you showed in the video. They are not made of steel AT ALL, they make no reference to "steel" AT ALL, and they are specifically made to be abrasive against caked on food but not enough to damage pans, dishes, and glasses.
Steel wool is very clearly metallic, leaves fragments of metal all over, and is extremely abrasive on a very fine level as to leave tons of extremely small scratches and thus a surface that feels smooth to the touch but not glossy.
Note to self don't use sand paper on my iWatch

I've cleaned windows in the past, and learned that 00 and 000 steel wool can remove some faint scratches, because it's so fine that, in a sense, it polishes the glass. I also learned that the green side of a 3M Scotch-Brite pad, or most other green abrasive pads, WILL ALWAYS scratch window glass! So I hope you give a scotch brite pad a try in the future. :-)
P.S. I noticed all the grief people are giving you for calling the green pad in the video steel wool. I just took your word for it. But turns out you were right -- it's better to google "synthetic steel wool" though. It gets more hits -- most of them being made by 3M. They even sell them in 1, 0, 00, 000, and 0000 grades--just like steel wool. I don't know how similar this is to a scotch-brite pad is though. All the same, I hope give a scotch-brite pad a try some time.

TameTheGameGaming it's not recommended to do this. OSs do not respond well to scotchbrighting. Especially Windows.
Don't do a drop test, put it on your wrist and hit it against a wall at various strengths. That will actually happen with a watch.

That's pretty funny because an actual watch that I owned which was about $300+ fell out of my pocket while at the gym and shattered the glass on it, so I'm guessing that's the kind of test lew will use.

I lobe this scratch test. It actually simulates damage done to the watch by every day items that will be carried in your pocket. Also the wool and sandpaper was a good way to to test if it could stand up to rubbing against something.

I got a brand new iwatch nike edition and in less than 5hrs after playing with it at my brother in law couch i found a really bad scratch very disappointed with apple its hard to watch this video and dont feel very angry about my watch quality

How much does Samsung pay you!? First bending the iPhone 6 plus then scratching this Apple Watch! Even on the Samsung Note Edge website, it says "Curved, not bent". Im disappointed.

The reason he bent the iPhone 6+ was because there was reports that it could easly bend. He tests basically every device that is popular. And as you saw the Apple watch could handle pretty much everything, besides the sandpaper. But let's be honest here, who the fuck has sandpaper in their pockets?

And melted sand is used to make glass, so obviously it would have a good chance at scratching the screen.

I've been wanting sandpaper scratch tests for years, glad people are finally doing them. People don't seem to understand that most metals aren't as hard as Gorilla Glass, which means that it won't scratch the glass no matter how sharp it is. A razor blade and key will do the same damage to the glass if made of the same metal. Sandpaper is actually a very realistic test, you don't have to necessarily be carrying it. If you carry your phone in a sandy environment (e.g. construction site, desert, beach), there is a high chance that sand will get in your pocket and scratch your phone, because sand is as hard as glass, unlike most metals. If you put a phone in a bag of sand and shake it, the results will be similar to sandpaper. So don't drop your phone in the sand on the beach!

You should add brick to your list of materials to scratch.
I think it'd be a good idea to test the glass against surfaces that people would likely brush up against/fall into/push through.
E.g. Asphalt, rocks, brick/mortar, concrete, the teeth of your enemies
I've had the moto 360 since launch and it hasn't accumulated any scratches. It has ran into door handles, drawers, counters & all sorts of things and has held up like a champ. The apple watch will be fine.
