I'm not usually a fan because of the 100% markup but the care that is put into that packing to ensure it arrives perfectly is admirable. Changing my opinion.
What takes Pete 30 minutes to do takes me a day and a half! Got all my turntable contents properly wrapped. Still have to get the right size box. Thanks Pete! You're swell!
Pete, it was abundantly clear that you were excited to share this video. Your enthusiasm about shipping turntables is surely going to help a lot of folks!
This video came out perfect timing! I sold a Pioneer Automatic Return PL-518 for about 250$ last night on ebay. I used this video to help me package to ship it. Thanks for the great info!
For the most part we do it pretty much about the same way. Just glad to see that I'm not alone although I'd say your 1/2 hour to 45 minutes guesstimate on the time it takes is a little light. I've shipped about 20-25 turntables over the years & I'd say that if I get 1 done in an hours time I'm doing good. Shipped a dual 1219 about 12 or 13 years ago that arrived all broken to hell because it was my 1st & I had no clue about the bouncing/floating aspect. Most duals & a lot of other turntables have screws that can be tightened to eliminate the bouncing/floating a feature I'm always thankful for when its present. Haven't had any damage issues since that 1st dual. Anyways thanks pete it really helps to know that I'm not the only one that is spending the kind of time and effort it takes to ship 1 of these. The next one will be easier for the knowledge.
Sold two turntables and packed them very similar to this. Both feed backs from the buyers were very pleased with delivery and packing. But I did gain some more insight on the floating style I will watch for if I sell one of those, Thanks
If you have ever bought a semi or high end turntable you will see how they are shipped from the factory. The platter is always removed. The cartridge is usually not included and if it is it's in it's own capsule. Sometimes the feet are removed. Every piece has it's own compartment in it's Styrofoam mold. As with anything that is delicate. Try to remove the pieces or isolate them to prevent the Neanderthals from breaking anything as they kick the packages around.
I’ve seen ppl spray foam the item inside the box, putting plastic layers over the item and then spray foaming, trim excess and tape up the box and ship. Great video and always put insurance on high dollar items! I always put an extra $100-$200 in insurance, it doesn’t cost that much extra. Usps is known to lose and damage packages.
Thank you very much Pete. I have found great deals on turntables but I didn't know how to pack them correctly. You once again have helped my wallet get fatter. I appreciate your teaching! 😁😁
Pain in the ass but that’s why you are able to win. You have experience and a team to help at times. Thanks for sharing this, help me pack my turntables when get to sell them.
Great video. If the platter cannot be removed or you dont want to, another good tip is to take the lid off, wrap the film around it all including the platter to hold in place, and then re-fit lid and wrap again.
of course not all of that applies to all turntables, but it is pretty much how I pack things like that, except for one difference. After the bubble, I take a sheet of corrugated cardboard and wrap it around the item tightly. Then I put it in the oversize box. This extra layer helps a lot, especially with irregular shaped items. I learned that lesson the hard way with an expensive statue. In this case I might also fit a piece of the foam under the tone arm near the end of it, with a piece above, why? well depending on the tone arm, it's heaviest at the end, if it gets dropped, it can bend or break the tone arm. if it's not nowhere much to move, it doesn't break, but the foam gives it enough cushion to allow just a little movement to absorb the shock. Granted most of the time I'm shipping much older turntables that are very fragile due to age. I also dumpster dive for packing materials, but I can't keep a lot on hand, wouldn't you know when I need them the most, the materials are hard to find, but plentiful when I don't. I do keep some in my storage shed as back up for those times, but can't spare a lot of room for stuff like that.
Just came across your channel after the scam video came up in my recommended list. Wow I’m addicted to your vids now, so entertaining and what a fantastic shop! Keep up the great work :) .. all the best, from Canberra Australia
thanks for sharing pete, i have shipped some vintage electronics. amps, tuners, tape decks, equalizers. not any turntables yet. i was putting in a lot of thought as to how i would do it because they are the hardest to ship no doubt. thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
Thanks Pete for doing a video like this to show people how to ship stuff. Seems alot of ebay sellers need to learn this. Keep up the great daily content! Also, Please do a video about the HULK 181 comic book that was at the shop on the counter a week or so ago. THUMBS UP!
Just use the blue painters tape...It doesn't leave a residue and holds very well...The Frog tape has the best adhesion...Spot weld the platter, the tone arm the lid etc with the tape...Then you soft pack the box...Easy Peasy...:)
Hey Pete, the only thing I would change is I would put the platter in first on top of Styrofoam, and then peanuts and then the unit itself on top of the platter. Everything is a bit safer that way. I have gotten turntables in little pieces before, so I hope this video gets a lot of views. Take care...
Hey Pete, Over the years I always double boxed. In other words, did pretty much exactly what you did and then boxed the result. Now that shipping rates continue to rise (which we pay for because there is only so much someone will pay for an item), I've changed to one box. Fed Ex has cheaper rates but they seem to really bash boxes around. USPS has been better at handling boxes but their rates continue to rise. They have also been good about paying out insurance claims (though I've had very few over the years). Anyway, glad one box has been enough for you. I do think the shipping costs rising are biting into profits. The turntable you just sold might be a good example of that very thing. Once you lowered it by around the cost of shipping, it sold. Possibly worth a video? I don't know. But I do know that because people will only pay so much for an item and shipping. As shipping costs rise, we have to eat the costs. Anyway thanks for the video. It gave me a little reassurance that having gone down to one box was the right choice. - Cheers
Very well said.... I personally use instapak component A & B chemicals.....saves so much time and forms perfect between all crevices on the units. Thanks for $haring..... thumb$ UP 🌴💀👍
I suggest 8'x4' construction foam from Lowe's or Home Depot. I use the cellophane wrap to secure the platter where it sits naturally as long as I've immobilized the float (if it has it) I then fill the void in the dust cover with bubbles until it will barely contact the turn table and wrap it down with cellophane.
Good packing job. I learned the hard way in shipping and receiving things that good packing is indispensable. I don’t quite agree with insurance though. UPS insurance requires the shipper to file the claim, not the receiver and if you’ve purchased something from someone directly (and sometimes even Ebay) then it’s really hard to force them to make an insurance claim when they already have your money. .
Dont be afraid of shipping costs or charging for shipping. I live on the east coast and any item I sell like that I'll do calculated shipping for it on the listing, adding 4 inches to each dimension and usually 5 pounds to the weight of the item. Better than guesstimating.
i would had a blanket on that wooden table, when you wrapped it in plastic it did look like you could have scraped it when you flipped it around ,great video
Great Video! hope these sellers take notes! Ive been shipped many busted TT before! PLZ do a video for shipping HEAVY Items over 50lbs Like Vintage Receivers. Barely anyone ever gets it right!
hey pete, can you please do a video on .... shipping options? i just feel so overwhelmed I have only done USPS ever for anything .... i feel like im wasting // missing out on a lot of money opportunies. thank you in advance if you get around to it!
Great video Pete, I believe so many resellers really slack on shipping and they cannot understand why they receive so much bad feedbacks or returns. Being a great reseller means a lot these days because most people toss items into boxes and call it done, but that leaves yourself open for bad feedback and returns. Also being aware of how you handle items during that packing and shipping stage is very important because really picky buyers will notice slight defects that were not noticeable in the photographs online when the item arrives if you slight chip something or scuff something while packing and shipping it. Turntables are actually pretty easy to ship I find that items like large fragile items like porcelain figures or stoneware jugs can be very difficult to package correctly if you don't know how to correct package delicate items.
On the one hand its good that Honey has a home. On the other, she is such a sweetheart and she loves people, she must get very lonely when she's locked up there by herself.
I don't think those turntables you can actually take out the cartridge without messing up the wiring. If the arm and needle does come off by twist you should defiantly pack them separately. Mostly in DJ turntables the needle should be removed cause they can be worth more then the turntable itself. Thanks for the upload I never considered removing the platter.
Hey Pete, In case you have not seen this yet, I thought you would get a kick out of this one, Check it out....Million Dollar Storage Locker!!! Did I hit the jackpot???.
PETER! Can you please add the link to your buddy’s website for those really large polly first class bags? I can’t find the previous video that you mentioned his name and stuff..thank you!
Yayy to Pete for keeping the vinyl dream alive!!
PERFECT TIMING!!! I was just on my way downstairs to pack up a record player that I sold last night on eBay. Had to sit and watch this first.
Great recommendations on packaging a turntable! In fact, if I ever buy a turntable on eBay I will forward this video to the seller.
Thanks Pete. Until I watched this I didn't have a clue on how to properly ship a turntable.
I'm not usually a fan because of the 100% markup but the care that is put into that packing to ensure it arrives perfectly is admirable. Changing my opinion.

Every time I think I am over packing, Pete 1-ups me. Very good lesson on larger, delicate items ;)

Thanks for making this video. Great advice. I don't think I would have attempted it otherwise.
This is honestly something I think I will probably never need to do, but your content is actually just entertaining to watch, so good on ya

Great! I love that you are already using the bag of foam that you found. Perfect 👌🏼 thanks for the video! Peace and hugs KP 🤗

You are a hardworking man! I appreciate the tips.
Pete, the only thing I would add to packing the turntable is I use painter’s tape and cover any holes or crevices that styrofoam pieces may fall into.

The first and only record player I have sold was broken in mail. And I quit trying to sell them. Maybe after this video I can try again
Beautiful job packaging that turntable!
Great job Peter.....being an audiophile myself; I need to unload some of my gear at some point. Thanks for showing us your "tricks of the trade"!
Thanks great information pete had a return a month ago on one not working on arrival I did not know to take off the plate and other parts.....

Oooh! A packing video! I've been waiting for one of these! I love it! I'd love to see more of the packing ones Peter! :)
Thanks for this. I have one to sell but haven’t gotten up the nerve yet. This is a big help.
Awesome video, excellent shipping information.
Nice job Pete I appreciate the tip I never removed the platter but definitely gonna do that next time.
Great video thank you been watching you for about a year now. I have learned a good bit from your videos.
You do great work and provide clear explanations Peter! Thank you!

wow pete you pack your items really well, most of the high street brand names dont pack they products as good as you do.
great tips pete . you are a pro

She a cute kitty I loved her when I first seen her
Thank you for this video. Very interesting and informative.
Great viceroy Pete! Now I know how.

An alternative to shrinkwrapping is use a garbage bag & tape; works just fine.
Meow. Now Gretcheen wants a cat

Nice Turntable, Technics is a good brand too.

Great video, good advice, thanks
You're description has wright--> right thought I would letcha know buddy.
Great informative video.
Thank Pete, Great video!
Awsome video Pt
Sometimes you use extra screws to secure it during transit yours has three holes that probably need three screws to hold the platter down ..
Any chances of broken styrofoam beads getting down in motor?
WOW! What a pro job!
Can you make a video for packing Technics SL 1200’s?
thank you for your videos
hey pete, can you please do a video on .... shipping options? i just feel so overwhelmed I have only done USPS ever for anything .... i feel like im wasting // missing out on a lot of money opportunies. thank you in advance if you get around to it!
Just drop it in the box and put some old newspapers around.
Top Job, He who cares wins.
should be a screw, likely on the bottom, that locks the flouting mechanism.
yes, you dont need to remove plinth at all.
Thank you very much.
I like how it was pack.

I forget about your accent until you say Bubble Wrap haha
Morning Pete!
Nice cats
I always put the turntable in a trash bag, and tape around each way, instead of using the plastic wrap.
the hardest part is finding the right size box.
I tried stopping by your store on Sunday, it was closed. Online it says open. ☹️
They recently changed it, Google hasn't updated it.
This is the way
Pete has spoken.
Can you show the Xbox 360 games you have I saw them but I couldn't get a good look at them on the other vid you had love the oldy Xbox games
On the one hand its good that Honey has a home. On the other, she is such a sweetheart and she loves people, she must get very lonely when she's locked up there by herself.
I've sold 2 and they both broke in shipment. I've passed on reselling atleast 10 of them... maybe i'll try again..
Nice!

Pete-how do you ship records?
Do you ever get bic sterling silver/ silver with turquoise lighter cases if no answer this time I'm taking my like back!😜
Shipped a few turntables what stinks is when you get a return and they don't take the time to properly pack it and you get a broken unit back.
