    The BLM area just north of Phoenix, Arizona we camped on is definitely the greenest desert we've ever seen. Who knew deserts could be so lush! Unfortunately though, all these desert plants means it's a cacti minefield! Cholla cacti are everywhere so - of course - our dog Sweetie stepped in some which led to me getting stuck too as she flailed while I pulled spines out of her paw.
    Phoenix, Arizona is surrounded by National Forests and our adventures led us into the region's largest - the Tonto National Forest. Sweetie joins us on the Butcher Jones Trail which promised gorgeous views of Saguaro Lake, Burro Cove, and the Four Peaks. Sadly, this area is also a cacti minefield! Wait...is this trail actually dog friendly?!

    Those dry little cactus clumps that blow around are called "Jumping Cactus" because they are attracted to static electricity. So they will actually jump onto you. :)

      @@FateUnbound i lived in Yuma for 23 years( where i wentbto college) and taught there. Then lived in Phoenix for 2 years. I think the Saguaro Desert State park is the best. Alot of movies( westerns) and tv shows habe been filmed there. It is protected and very beautiful. At this time of year its pretty nice but towards the end of May I wouldnt recommend it, TOO hot!! You could do Flagstaff area then, REALLY nice there at that time of the year! There are some nice BLM places outside Yuma in the winter and spring. One in particular is by the Imperial Dam near YPG Very lush foliage and nice hiking. My Geology class went there and hiked and it was a hoot!

    Jenni, great new look! I bet the pixie cut is so easy to handle on the road. I couldn't do that with my curls unless I wanted to look like a poodle caught in a rainstorm. Haha. Keep on rocking it. Loved the drone footage at the beginning and I bet the no light pollution out there is so peaceful. Poor Sweetie's paws though; we are thinking of doggie boots before we even leave. I doubt our boys would wear them though.

    As far as the scorpions go, we live a block from the desert (North Scottsdale) and get them in our house all summer long. For 18 years running now. So far, haven't been stung though. We have to use a flashlight to use the bathroom at night since that's when they feed. The people I know that have been stung have had one drop onto them from the ceiling, while in bed. That would keep you awake at night for a while after that.
    BTW, that cut looks good on you Jenni.

    Haircut is so cute on you. Watch out picking up anything in scorpion country. They will hide almost anywhere. I live in Central Texas, and some years we have huge numbers of scorpions. When I was stung, it made a huge lump and burned and ached for about a week.

    This was beautiful footage. I have never been to Arizona or the desert out west either for that matter. But from what I read on an instagram post, where a youtuber was laying on a blanket with her daughter taking photos and they were advised to be careful this time of year because everything is waking up and the rattlers and scorpions are everywhere. Idk. Just what I read.
    I just listened to the entire Harry Potter series for the first time on Audible last year, and watched all the movies last fall when they were doing a marathon of all of them on TV. I recorded them all. The books were so much better though. As usual. You guys should get an audible subscription. They are great for traveling. You two can listen to books while you. Are driving together.

    I went through Flagstaff on the way to the grand canyon about 5 years ago it was the middle of May and it snowed about 8 inches the night before, when I was flying into Phoenix I couldn't figure out what all the white was on the ground, it was first time flying out west and I heard there was salt flats and I thought it was that but Nope it was snow. You see I come from the east coast where the elevation is 500 ft above sea level so really never put much thought into the weather change when going up in elevation, never had too.

    Hi! We currently live down in Tucson. There are wild Mustangs in the area you are in too. Use two sticks to get off the cholla cactus and not get it on you. Tonto Natural Bridge is really cool to see. Down here in Tucson, the Saguaro Nat'l parks are great! You have to see a Crested Saguaro. They are rare and still dont know why the form that way!

    If you want to keep scorpions away from your camp; soak down some old burlap and place it around your camp well away from were you are. Be carful when retrieving your burlap; use a long pole or long stick. We used this method when we camped at Lake Powell on the beach.

    Glad you're enjoying our state! We've lived here since 1975 and it's a wonderful state to camp in. You can camp here year-round depending on what elevation you pick. The desert doesn't look this green every year. We had a really wet winter this year. So this is one of our standout Springs. It's much wetter and cooler this year. Unfortunately, June is coming! 😉

    I love your videos! Just a word of advice, please be careful of bloat (stomach torsion) on Sweetie. Rottweilers are particularly susceptible and it can be caused by letting her drink and/or eat too much before, during or after exertion. It is a medical emergency in dogs. Please Google it and take care of her. I have to say that after watching this last vid, I might just jump in the RV and take a trip to the area of Phoenix. What amazing beauty. Thanks for sharing and God bless!

    Great video again. I have a technical question about the drone shots. At the beginning of the video when you leave your trailer and driving the truck, did you actually use the auto follow command of the drone or where you manually guiding it ?
    Oh yes Jenni your haircut is very nice

    • @FateUnbound
      @FateUnbound  5 років тому

      David manually guides the drone, we haven't tried the auto follow while driving yet, it should work alright, but he typically wants the drone to go a certain way so he just does it manually
