Alright. We want to make sure that we do not sell out. So we have opened preorders for the next batch. It will ship by October 6th. tangledfilament.com
Bro, you might wanna correct your site. Theres a section on your site that has a Title you named it ans then for the body it just tells you to edit your body. Theres no content in it.
please move to europe :D
I wish for more clear😢, my current best PLA is from a random Chinese brand, it's wonderful until a weak point in the spool breaks and ruins my print, I have a smart filament(encoder ones) sensor now should help!
If you sold spool less spools, and kept the inside diameter the same, we can make our own spools.
That would personally be preferable to me.
And it would make it much cheaper for you.
Your website was sellinf subscriptions of 3 1kg spools for 60$ I must be missing something
Regarding the black color, please consider a matte black rather then shiny. Matte seems to be more popular recently, mostly because it hides print errors better.
In regards to the spool, please mention the empty weight of it on the spool itself. That way it's easy to calculate remaining filament.
Yes I use Zortrax black PLA because the matt finish is my favorite :)
Two very great idea, I agree!!!
Why not correct your English, so you can seem intelligent? Why, you can't figure out the difference between "then" and "than"? Try typing them into the search engine to find out what these words mean. Seriously, why make a comment that shows the entire word how much of an idiot you are.
I don't like being a jerk, but sometimes speaking up is the most effective way to help somebody. I hope you take this comment to better yourself.
Did you know you can make most gloss PLA turn matte just by printing it "too hot"?
You need to tune your bridging, but it works.
@@SwervingLemon For me, when I print PLA to low, I get the most mat finish. If I crank up the temp too much; it get glossy. I never tried to cook it that far.
Love the detailed planning. I believe you guys are positioning yourself in a very good place for the near future. We'll done. 👍🇺🇲
Thanks so much!
@@slant3d If it’s asa count me in, daddy needs some cheap asa.
@@ZeFoxiiyou ok?
kinda feels like we are watching coca cola being formed, well done on taking the reigns of the industry
For sure more detailed then more detailed than most larger companies I think that what they are going to try is fantastic
As a retired mechanical engineer, I've met very few great engineers, that are also extremely business savvy. You sir have both. Business plan and stratagy, economics analysis, pilot run and market trials, etc, etc. Well done. You got me as a filament customer when it gets rolling.
Thank you so much
I would be all for $10-$15 rolls of filament! I will be watching for this for sure.
One thought I had regarding plastic spool waste; I hate having big plastic spools left over from filament rolls. An idea I thought would be great is to sell the rolls wrapped on only a cardboard tube. Similar to the cardboard centerpiece on a roll of tape. Then have 2 plastic side pieces that can be removed but are not included by default with the spool. Then you could sell the plastic side pieces separately or even let people print them themselves. That way when you get a new spool you just pop the 2 plastic sides on and it would be exactly like a normal spool. When it's out, pop off the sides to save for another spool and toss the cardboard core.
You seem to be uniquely positioned to offer something like this since you have the print farm to print the side parts in-house. It could also help drive down cost. A cardboard tube has to be cheaper than those spools plus it would weigh slightly less for shipping
Can you explain why is everyone so hyped? I am already buying $11 pla filament on aliexpress...
@@Einxeld I guess it's the assumption people are making that all cheap filament you can get right now is trash.
@@Einxeld I think you would agree that 10 is less than 11. A almost 10% saving on materials is a big deal when you buy lots of filament. Also, I would rather work with a company on the same continent as I if I have a choice.
@@royalt9863 i don't think they will have free shipping worldwide, like ali does though, so that's additional cost for people not on the same continent. Without it of course 10 is better than 11.
@royalt9863 $14-$15 US made filament already exists. You just have to buy in bulk.
I love the disruption you guys doing with this and with 3D print mass production.
Can’t wait for Europe.
Thanks
@@slant3d When to europe?
Dont know about other countries but in Poland you can buy cheap 1kg PLA (9-11$) and ABS (~13$) for several years now. Pretty good quality too. Probably wouldn't make as much disruption in Europe as in US.
@@rust941 where, I am in europa and cant get below €15 /kg in 10KG batches
@@rust941 can you link us?
Right now, cheap, cruddy, $10 filament is being utilized for prototyping. This is a total 'game-changer' and I like the idea of supporting US based companies as well. Keep up the great work and I eagerly await for what the future will unveil.
Or just big prints. I just printed a 508 gram plant pot with $9 filament.
Congratulations in bringing back some traditional business practice into the marketplace where the consumer is a big part of the equation and not wall street. I also love the made in USA. Your approach in divulging your business plan is a marketing stroke of genius. Bringing the customer along for the ride keeps you honest and will build customer loyalty. I am just a hobbyist but I will use your product based on this video.
Thanks so much. Welcome to the journey
@@slant3d I have a question - (this is my 1st time to your channel)
I'm assuming you're using recycled plastic? What type of plastic is your filament made with (PETE, PP, HDSP or ?) Lastly, is there
an opportunity for a small plastic recycler to sell products to your company? I ask because I've been researching plastic recycling.
and what products could be reinvented/invented that would possibly benefit us & the planet. Any help would greatly be.
appreciated. Thanks for your time.
To go with the "plastic spool" optimization, remember that you can also just sell refills. Not everyone can properly re-roll them, but those that can could save the cost of the plastic spool.
Re-roll?
What do you mean? You just put the refill in a masterspool, cut the zip ties and that's it. No rolling of any kind necessary.
@@Jehty_ You will then need a two part spool
@@Jehty_I think he is referring to the 2k rolls which won't fit the AMS so you have to respool the 2k spools into 2 1k spools. If you don't use an AMS then 2k should be fine as is, but guess it depends on your printer/setup as a 2k would be a little heavier if the spool is held at the top of the printer on a lottle arm🤷♂️
Let us buy it spoolless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll buy 100kg!
I suggest using spools with a grid of holes in the sides, definitely for moisture sensitive filaments like PETG. It's really hard to dry a spool with full flat sides properly.
I'd suggest no spool like Bambu
@@ElmerGLue 🙄 you don’t have to hook it up to their cloud service, it prints fine in LAN only mode or using an SD card
No spool or cardboard spool, the fact that the majority of the 3d printing industry sells single-use plastic spools is absolutely appalling to me.
I'm not even a 3d printing person, but your enthusiasm and focus toward bringing a high quality, high-value product to market is as crystal clear as your upcoming filament. It's nice to see.
One thing to watch out for is teething problems with the new PLA feedstock. Working with a new supplier can go sideways in any number of ways, and you're only giving yourselves a few months to deal with any issues that arise when switching over to the new PLA.
This is absolutely fantastic. Basically what gaming companies should be doing focus on quality and not short term profits. Many industries could really learn from this guy. Glad quality is such a core focus. Im am going to get back into 3d printing again and work on prototyping making custom DIY battery friendly platforms.
This is great! I'm especially excited about the PETG filament. It just takes a few baby steps and soon the whole industry will be $10/kg or bust.
Your honesty, integrity and dedication to make the best and most affordable products for your customers is REFRESHING! The added bonus for me is MADE IN AMERICA and I will support you 100% because of that, even if it costs more but yes I am looking forward to things getting cheaper! Thanks a ton for ALL you are doing for the 3D community, you really are a breath of fresh air and I see awesome things in Slant 3D's future!
Wow, thank you!
Marketers take notice, this is how you build a loyal customer base in the 21st century. Transparency, ingenuity, authenticity, how can anyone not want this man to succeed. Legend.
Thanks
Love this! If you guys are successful, this will be pretty disruptive and I hope other filament companies follow suit. Also gotta love the ramp up of American manufacturing 🇺🇸
I’m really interested in spooless options as well!
I appreciate the roadmap, and detailed plan of attack. It’s been incredibly valuable to see everything you’ve shared on this channel and gaining insight into your strategies and processes.
Super excited for this! Please offer a refill option with a cardboard core rather than a plastic spool. Big plus if directly bambu labs compatible or if an adapter can be used.
Pretty cool plan. Something I would love to see despite it not being feasible would be recycled ABS filament. Most electronics use ABS plastic, and it is a hard plastic to get recycled. For the longest time I have been wishing to find a way to shred the plastic and make it something useful. The hard part is people want things to be a single color. I think a recycled ABS filament containing a random variety of colors would be cool.
As a 3D printing supplier i can say that 10 dollars should be super easy for high quality filament! Good luck!
Bro!!! I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your willingness to honestly and candidly address the challenges we will all (Both customer / Producer) and strategies that can be utilized to overcome them....Your videos are a joy to watch and I look forward to trying your filament!! (and other products I hope).
Thank you so much for watching
@@slant3d My pleasure, Brother. I would LOVE to see a comprehensive video on the best way to set up a small 3d printing business (for those of us who wanna play the game as a side-hustle and basically pay for our 3d printing obsession so our wives don't kill us).
Any chance of something like that ? (or does your company offer affiliate associations for those of us who wanna help while improving our own game ?
Definitely like the fact that you guys will be eating your own dogfood. I'll 100% be making purchases!
Thanks
This is precisely the sort of smart organized planning in an open setting that makes me love the 3D printing industry dearly.
It's these moments I love being part of the maker community. Investing back into the community with innovation, business insights, and more accessible tools.
I’ve added this to the top of my product launch video inspo. The thoughtfulness on the market trials, transparency, product development plan and branding is exquisite. When I launch products going forward I’ll revisit this when planning my marketing material. I’ll be a customer to your black PLA when it’s ready, it’ll definitely come in handy with my product!
Thank you. It is ready
I absolutely love to hear this and plan to support this 100%. Good luck with everything and am super excited to start to hear Slant as a filament brand and printing farm!
This is awesome! I don’t even 3D print but I love seeing projects like this that benefit the consumer and shake up the whole market ❤
Awesome work! I'd love to see a cardboard spool (we're already making so much plastic waste) , and/or have a window with notations to gauge remaining filament.
Already done
@@slant3d lord almighty yall are fantastic
Or better yet, a reusable roll like Bambu Lab does and you can just buy refills. Reuse all your old rolls will saving on shipping cost due to not having to make room for the spool, just the filament.
@@Kirky64 some companies sell refill for the same price as a spooled roll, sometimes even pricier and it does not make any freaking sense (looking at you ROSA3D).
@@slant3dI'd rather have a plastic spool.
I will definitely be picking up a spool of clear and doing strength testing vs my go-to of polymaker PLA pro.
For your reference, I currently buy my black polymaker PLA pro 5kg spools for $14.72/kg in bulk on Amazon sales (like prime day I bought 450kg).
Buying American is a huge push for me, so long as the strength is comparable I look forward to you reaching that magic sub 15$/kg and getting that on a reliable subscription, this is my favorite project to follow from you!
Thank you so much. We hope to hit all that pricing on a consistent basis rather than through loss-leading sales
@@slant3d And I would hope to buy on a consistent basis at/near that price instead of having to store months worth of filament at a time! Rooting for you on this since it will make my life much easier as well haha
I used to work in a plastics manufacturing plant. Here are a tip that will help out on the manufacturing aspect of the filament.
Tip 1: when doing a color change make sure everything is clean. Clean out your screens. Run your new color. Shut the machine down. Clean screens. again. Then run the machine. Monitor your temperatures very closely. A couple of degrees of temp can change the color and thickness of the end product. That will throw your QA/QC outa spec.
I continue to be impressed by your presentations. Many people before me in the comments section have similar appreciations about you and your team(s), but I'm compelled to add to it. Great job so far and looking forward to becoming one of your clients as I learn from your suggestions and design better products. Kudos!!
Why can't other companies be like you guys? Ever since I subscribed, I've seen full transparency in everything you do. You're super open about your process and everything in your videos. And the goal of $10/1kg of PLA is amazing!
Money~
This is a master class in business planning for innovation and reaching a defined realistic goal.
Thank you
You have a way of talking that makes me trust you, as an engineer. Customers like deets. People don't do that often enough!
This is one of the most exciting 3D printing endeavors I've seen in a long time.
Thanks.. this is what the 3D print world needed. Hope it will go international. Greets from the Netherlands
Have you guys considered that the raw PLA might go up in price by the time your goal date for $10/kg comes up? I hope it's possible but it seems impossible in today's market
In house start to finish is the way to go when possible. You guys are going to make huge waves in the industry as you get going with this!
You have some of the best and most informative information about 3d printing. I always learn something new with these videos.
Glad to hear it!
I love this business plan! One thing that I would love to see you guys do is introduce refillable spools for the consumer market, I can image that refillable spools are a pain in the back for commercial operations but for consumers they are great! Either way I will DEFINITELY be supporting you guys by buying filament from you guys!
Definitely, I'd buy the prusament refills if they offered it in other than their black.
I'd recommend either something like fcp euro where you return the spool and any unused filament as a discount and returning customer also get a discount for repeated business.
Here in India, 10$ is actually a standard cost for 1KG PLA & if bought in bulk can go down to 6-7$ per spool.
here in america you can get $10 1kg rolls of pla+ if you buy in bulk ... this company sells 3kg of good pla for $65 thats 21.50 per 1kg
Same here in Argentina, 8 - 11 por 1Kg PLA, produced locally, pretty good quality honestly.
Yeah I like to buy from IIID max and if you buy 10 rolls it is $12 each and I really like that filament quality. You just have to plan ahead for the bulk purchase.
Hearing about a Facility coming to Texas is Music to my ears!
Love the transparency! (No ounce intend.) Thanks for putting yourself out there and sharing your roadmap.
This is very exciting! Hope you'll consider selling without spools, or creating a 3d printed spool for your 2 kg offering.
The problem with 3D printing spools is the cost, in most cases you are cheaper just to buy filament with a spool rather than a refill than to print the spool yourself, and that doesn’t take into account time either.
@@conorstewart2214 I don't know about that. The SlantSpool can be printed for about 300grams of filament (even less at 250g for the 6 inch version), so you can get about 3 spools per kg of filament. I've been using the PrintedSolid Jessie PLA transition rolls for my SlantSpools, which costs $16/kg, or about $5 per printed spool. If removing the spool from a roll of filament saves even $1 per roll, you'll make up the difference in just 5 rolls, plus you don't have to deal with the empty spools (if you consider that a negative at all). I buy a lot of ABS filament and my manufacturer of choice is Keene Village Plastics. Their Koil line (without the spool) costs a few dollars less than the normal spooled stuff, so I make up the cost in just a couple rolls.
Do you think it's more cost effective to sell reusable spool like the bambu lab does?
In my theory it should use less shipping space and weight, and less material albeit pretty low. Or is it potentially more expensive because more post processing required?
I wonder about tangles but if others can do it so can anyone.
I cant wait for this plan to come to fruition, i wish the best of luck for you guys!
YES!! 2KG Spools!! Glad you're going that way, glad to see you're listening to suggestions!! Hopeyou are planning on shipping to Canada
Any plan for a cardboard spools for consumers? I’d imagine the plastic ones are reusable on the farm but I can only have so many extension cords I can wrap 😅 thank you for all the work y’all are doing these videos are very valuable
Check out our past videos on the topic
I feel slightly less guilty chucking a cardboard spool in the trash vs a plastic one.
Do you expect to continue to offer un-colored filament as you scale up? I'm experimenting with PLA investment casting, and anything added to the filament is a pain. But I'm also focusing on larger-format prints so 2+kg spools will absolutely be something I'm interested in.
I hope so too! I have some "natural" filament from another manufacturer, it's nice and unobtrusive; I like the way it looks.
First video i ever seen from this channel and I am sold! Refreshing to hear economic literate people with a plan.
Can't wait to order some coffee!
In all seriousness looking forward to following the progress!
"3x 1 KG Spools of Black PLA Filament Per month" $59.00?
I really think a good consumer level recycler would be great. Id love to customize my own filament and reuse all my supports and failed prints. I dont like the idea of cranking way more plastic into the environment for cheaper
Yes if you guys could have local stations where we can give in pla scraps in return for say, 75% of the weight in recycled filament, that would be awesome.
What a great project. I am looking forward to seeing it progress in the next couple of years. I shared this video with my friend. He is. a process engineer at an aerospace 3D printing company in CDA. This would also be a great option for technical schools that teach part design and 3D printing since they work on a small budget.
The subscription model is a stroke of genius. Love it!
i cant wait to buy it, will it be avaliable in Europe?
You already have two European customers ^^
Thank you so much. We are still working on european distribution. But it is on the roadmap
Make it three😅
4 :D
@slant3d while you figure out your own angles on distribution, will you perhaps leverage FBA as an interim solution? fwiw, buying through Amazon is often the only realistic way for people living a bit further out
Where's the 10$ filament? All I see is 58$ for 3 rolls. 19.33 per roll. Is this some sort of scam?
The rolls are 3kg, so per kilo the price is still cheaper
I've never seen or heard of this channel before (got a random recommendation from looking up 3D printing recommendations for my models), and I'm hooked. I plan to be a small-time 3D printer and have a small Etsy shop, and I can't wait to use tips and filament from this channel. Thank you!!!
Thanks! You might also check out the etsy integration we just released
This would be a game changer for us!!! Really excited to see how this shakes out! Keep up the great work!!
very excited about this! love finding companies that actually care about their consumers!! thank you guys!

Thank you, one of the best corperate 3D print and design tip channel I know of. Greetings from the Netherlands
Huzzah!
Already was looking forward to this, but I've really wanted to try the clear filament. Thanks!
Coming from Houston, one of the most humid places in the world, I appreciate your PETG considerations.
Wow! I was just recommended your video, and you’ve now got a new subscriber and future customer! I’m so into this. It is such a sound sustainable plan. I’m very excited to see this unfold! 😊
Welcome aboard!
Love the way you lay out your plans, I wish every company operated like this
I was praying to myself this entire video that it is gonna be for profit and am super excited to hear it is!
Holy.... just bought my first 3d printer today think I found my filament producer already. This is actually exciting for me as someone getting into the hobby. As I am also a home lab guy and wish to do some network upgrades and saving money is key right now. Love it guys. Can't wait to see expanded production guys.
Great to hear
Wow! Count me in as a customer, an advocate, and a big fan of the vision!!
Thank you
Very inspiring. Can't wait to get my hands on your filament. Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much!
Awesome video it's awesome that you guys are doing something like this!
I cant wait to finally be able to spend less money on Filament and print more models, as a person who just started 3D printing and seeing the prices of filament is insane!!! I cant wait guys!!! I look forward to your sucess!!!
May I suggest having a feedback page that you can quickly access with a QR code with the batch number auto filled. This feedback page could have all parameters you are looking for with feedback like consistency, color, jamming, packaging (unsealed bag), printer used, etc. I’m sure people will use it to help you get the most feedback ASAP to help iron out bugs on the production line.
That is a great idea
I would recommend a fiber laser as the marking time is low and has a high level of success on plastic. Also 5 or 10 kg spools would be a nice for massive prints.
Love seeing process optimizations! Stay agile and keep making smart improvements.
We try
The entire manufacturing world is simple concepts scaled up until they are very difficult, best of luck gents!
This is honestly such a beautiful plan. If this does work, I feel like it could change the industry. The planning is amazing and that is one thing that helps me trust you more, if you just said eventually all this would happen, I probably wouldn’t subscribe to emails. Also this is my first video from you, good start
Thank you so much
Good luck. I'll be watching progress closely.
Very wholesome, cant wait to see options for delivery to Australia.
I was gonna ask about PETG, but you have that covered! Good luck
Great work. I love it! Really appreciate the methodical process you are going through. I wish you much success. And I look forward to trying out the PLA soon.
In Argentina the 3NMAX brand (national) costs 10 dollars per kg. And it is of excellent quality. I never stop wondering why filament is so expensive in other supposedly developed countries.
Looking forward to it. Currently my go-to is Printed Solid's inhouse for 20ish with free shipping if you order 45+ worth of stuff
So excited for this! I'd also love to see spool refills at some point, similar to the master spool concept or bambu labs refills.
You got yourself a subscriber. Very excited to see this plan roll out
Thanks. Already got the Clear and Black Released
Nice. Petg is my preferred filament. Love the plan.
Nice video! Was so surprised to hear you are also in Boise, excited to try some of your filament some day 🙌
i am very excited to see how it turns out and will be ready to buy
Now seven moths after publishing it seems as if you are basically following plan. Very well thought through and executed. I have no doubt that you will continue optimizing in order for the plan to be successfull. Looking forward to it.😀
Glad yall will be doing petg eventually, thats my main go to material.
Filament arrived today! First print (6h15m, miniPC rack plate) printed a dream ... and looks pretty kewl being all translucenty. 😁
as a hobbyist and student, $10 filament would be a game-changer!
really looking forward for the launch, and hope it'll be successful!
keep it up, guys!
it used to be this cheap tbf. Then since the plague and people printing ppe for it, and probably low stocks..filament manufacturers doubled the price and kept it there. We all thought it would drop back down but nah
Great dedication and transparency from Slant 3D on an industry leading plan. As part of defining better standards related to material consistency, spool optimization, etc., I hope Slant 3D is able to also influence how filament specifications are documented and communicated. Currently many unknowns, inconsistencies exist, unlike materials sourced by woodworking, or metal industries. Being open with the print community/industry and being able to share feedback, or lessons learnt will create a disruption with positive consequences.
Thanks for sticking with us
Couldn't smash subscribe faster if I tried. Very excited to see where this journey goes and how I can help support it!
Looking forward to this! The high price of PET-G compared to PLA has been really getting on my nerves knowing that it's only industry inefficiency/incompetence that keeps it so expensive. And I'm sure that the most efficient production lines currently in existence are making overly massive margins due to lack of competition 😶
If your company can get this going 100% no other pla producers will be able to compete. I'm on board 100%. Good luck.
Excited! Pre-ordered my 3 spools of clear PLA!
Thank you. Hope to not disappoint
Man, I haven't seen filament so cheap since my bulk source vanished. RIP GST3D, you were so excellent for 10kg material orders.
Sounds like a really solid plan. I have no problem paying a bit of extra for fancy filaments, but the most used basics should be cheaper than they currently are.
I just “found” your channel and I’m impressed. I would love to try your filament and I’m loving your business plan. Just signed up for notifications. Looking forward to doing business with you 😁
I'm not going to lie, it sounds very interesting. Im liking the clear filament
