  • Frederik Willem de Klerk (born 18 March 1936), often known as F. W. de Klerk, was the seventh and last State President of apartheid-era South Africa, serving from September 1989 to May 1994. De Klerk was also leader of the National Party(which later became the New National Party) from February 1989 to September 1997.
Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki[3] (Xhosa pronunciation: [tʰaɓɔ mbɛːkʼi]; born 18 June 1942) is a South African politician who served two terms as the second post-apartheid President of South Africa from 14 June 1999[4] to 24 September 2008.[5] He is also the brother of Moeletsi Mbeki. On 20 September 2008, he announced his resignation after being recalled by the African National Congress's National Executive Committee,[6] following a conclusion by Judge Nicholson of improper interference in theNational Prosecuting Authority (NPA), including the prosecution of Jacob Zuma for corruption.[7] On 12 January 2009, the Supreme Court of Appeal unanimously overturned Judge Nicholson's judgment[8][9][10] but the resignation stood.

South Africans are blessed to have a very strong culture of talking through very very tough subjects. Nothing is taboo. I lived there most of my professional life and I learned so much about this quality.

"Sanctions should be reserved for serious situations." FW de Klerk has time and again expressed his view that "there was nothing wrong with apartheid." In his statement in the conference he's shown that he doesn't think that apartheid was "a serious situation."

What do you say that an unqualified one man one vote democracy is a disaster in a society of great inequality and that it is capable of being manipulated to the detriment {as in the case of SA) of social progress. Our institutions of state has all but been destroyed. In 30 years the governing party have been unable to put in place a first class educational system which a priori resulted in the economy remaining firmly in the hands of 2% of the population. And the architect of this failure is Mr Mbeki and his apparatchiks. They could try and blame it all on Zuma but the rot started under Mbekis watch. That will be his legacy, of being a poser. Pres.Mugabe on the other hand produced a first class civil service and built on the educational institutions inherited from the previous ruling class. Only for it to be destroyed by western sanctions following Britains reneging of the terms of The Lancaster House agreement by refusing to pay compensation for land reparations. That will be the legacy of Pres Mugabe whether one likes it or not.

Mugabe killed his own people in Gukurahundi. After that he killed the economy of
Zimbabwe. For this reason you are in South Africa.

Either Mbeki, Mandela or de Klerk. Sadly the last two named are dead already. So Mbeki would save South Africa.

Am i the only one irritated by this🤔? When they address De Klerk, they refer to him as "MR" or "President" but when they speak to Thabo Mbeki and Mandela, they refer to them straight by names

Well the way i see it. Affirmative action poses both a negative and positive impact on out country, in the sense that many white skilled workers are being rejected which poses a wide spread threat to the economic structure of out country and where our black people benefit in the sense of employment but causes a slow economic growth in our country, i think affirmative action has run its course already

What you missed is the fact that Mbeki not only answered questions posed to him but further elaborated to allude to the reasoning behind it all.
