serena was always like “it’s part of my past” when talking about something from 3 months ago
😂😂😂
AHAHAHAHA but that's so truee tho
always playing the victim...
😅😅😅
Am I the only one who thinks that Serena is veeery boring?
Ex party girl who wants to be a good girl is an arc, not a character trait.
is no one gonna talk about the fact that they started college but never seemed to finish it? like they just stopped going
Literally like it was shown for what season 3&4 and then what happened?? They suddenly all had full time jobs??
If you can bribe your way into college, you can probably bribe your way into a degree and a high-paying job you're not qualified for.

Honestly, the only things I remember from the show that relate to the whole college-thing is that Blair wanted to go specifically to Brown and not Harvard and that at some point some person was paid to take a test for somebody else because reasons, I guess.
The whole show is kind of a blur for me.
@@BlueGangsta1958 actually it was serena who wanted to go to brown.blair was set on Yale
The Dan plothole being Gossip Girl just truly makes him look like a psychopath who's obsessed enough to sabotage everything, himself and his own sister included, to make himself fit "the Manhattan's elites".

True, it honestly works that way
Mar it so does.
I’m fine with Dan being gossip girl (apart from the very obvious plot holes); I just hated how the relationships went down in the finale. Serena should’ve ended up with Nate, that random younger girl Nate met in the last season should’ve never existed, and Dan should’ve ended up alone like he was when the show started.

The Dan Humphrey reveal was totally uncalled for. It’s just bad writing. They should have been set on it from the get go but they hadn’t. The plot holes are just overwhelming.
Yeah I think it was supposed to be someone else, but the information was leaked or something like that and they had to change the person... Dan being gg doesn’t make sense
Luisa Coutinho Talamini ye i was re watching it and u can see in lots of episodes Dan is reading it as if he’s shocked by what’s on it when he’s supposed to be writing it
Aoife Ward yes and he’s alone so why would he pretend to be surprised right
It was supposed to be Eric.
it was supposed to be eric and then nate but too many viewers suspected that and the writers wanted it to be a surprise 🙄 so they changed it to a random person
"guilty pleasure is never used for media with a male demographic" oh my god. so this is why i hate the term. wow, thank you
Right!!!! Also, things that make u happy shouldn’t make u feel guilty anyway!
Uhm how about those crappy action movies
Loren S most guys, in my experience, happily and openly talk about them in an unashamed way. The only guys I’ve heard call them a “guilty pleasure” are film school/wanna be film school dudes.
But I put "so bad theyre good" movies in that category as well from time to time since theyre kind of the same thing (ie birdemic? The room?) But nornally those movies are on another level of incompetence than guilty pleasures
Lindsay Ellis has a great take on Twilight about this issue and how we culturally hate media that targeted specifically for young women. It was both refreshing someones pointing that out. I hope someday hatred towards literally anything feminine, ends one day.

I think Serena was just as a "mean" girl as Blair(if you consider Blair to be) but she was always victimized and never owned up to anything
Even the actress doesn’t like Serena
I just don't see this. Yeah she was entitled but Blair was malicious. Serena acted selfishly but in a careless fashion. Blair purposefully set out to hurt others.
She just literally never took ownership of any of her behaviors- she was always the martyr in her own head
Mallory Fraser i think in the beginning blair was obsessed with being the queen of high school so she did what she had to in order to maintain the position, but definitely matured and used that determination to become a business owner. serena on the other hand pretended like she was a good girl while doing the same things as blair, but never changed. she acted like a victim the whole time and shamed blair even though serena was worse since she didn’t even have a motive other than being a bad person
Whenever she was confronted she always just acted offended and walked away. She always victimized herself, like when she TOOK OVER gossip girl and posted Blair’s diary she tried to excuse it by the fact that Blair took Dan from her and she was just hurt. She was mad about Dan and Blair so she decided to make Dan believe Blair was leaving him (which I think she was?) and seduced him so they’d have sex at the SAME place she took (Blair’s at the time boyfriend) Nate’s virginity AND decided to film it. All the friendships were toxic in the show, even the relationships, but Blair owned up to her flaws and knew she was mean but Serena always made her actions seem unintentional or like she was only retaliating... If that makes sense. I could go on and on about how they’re all toxic to each other but for some reason Serena really irks me, even in season 1.
honestly they should have made gossip girl one of blairs minions. they are in the center of it all, rarely, if ever, get outed on the stuff they do and have the best motive, knocking balir, serena, chuck and nate out of the top spot and taking over. and when dan became one of them he got outed on a bunch of stuff like it makes sense
Miya. S i would’ve thought it would be one of them or Eric.
Madeline Friberg as much of eric would have made sense, he would have betrayed his sister a lot and jenny too. nelly yuki would have been a good considerastion, or penelope or hazel!!
@@ph03n1x.l0v3r i would go with Penelope out of the minions. Even hazel told Penelope to "tone down the crazy". Lol
they really just got nelly yuki's character to come back and it would have made much more sense for her to be gossip girl.
This is the best one i've heard yet! Bet the writers are like damn why didn't I think of that haha
When I watched Gossip Girl I thought every character was terrible and liking Chair was probably unhealthy, but I still liked them and watched the show. I imagine it's the same reason people like Keeping Up With the Kardashians. My least favourite character was Serena, not because she did bad things, cause they all did. But because she acted like she was such a good person and always played the victim.
The show felt real because characters had very real flaws, for me at least.
Serena is the worst, she started like this "ooh sunshine girl I'm sooo understanding" but turned out to be just forcing everyone to understand her with no regard towards other's feelings. "I slept with you bf because I was hurt, woe is me!", ugh.
My friend and I started watching it in 2013 as a joke because we ran out of stuff to watch. We soon had watched every episode together and it’s something that bonds us to this day. We knew it was trash going into it and while watching it, but we still love it.
God! I’m in S4 and so far I can kinda tell that I hate Jenny and Serena.
same.. I wanted to punch her in season 4 and I was never rooting for her. that whole I'm a good person that made mistakes in the past attitude. when really she never redeemed herself nor did her character develop itself, quite the opposite, she only got worse
Yesss Serena was so annoying! She was SO quick to jump to conclusions too, smh. Like at least Blair owned the fact that she was a mean girl 😩
the gossip girl memes are some of the only things keeping me sane right now
I don’t care what the writers say, I refuse to believe that Dan is Gossip Girl. I’m just going to keep believing it’s Darota.
I disagree. It's hinted at in the first episode, in the second season when they try to find gossip girl he has JUST left the room when they decide to call GG, then when Serena texts GG to meet Dan is the one who shows up. He has nothing in common with this group of people and writes himself in as "Lonely boy" who else would have seen Dan and decided to include him? And then at graduation everyone has horrible things written about them and he's labeled as "The ultimate insider". He writes two Gossip Girl-esque books, him being a writer at all makes sense for him to be Gossip Girl, and if you rewatch you'll notice Dan is constantly lurking and manages to be EVERYWHERE even when it doesn't make sense or he wasn't invited.
Taylor Hairston
I don’t know, to me it looks like making Dan Gossip Girl was a last minute decision. I wouldn’t be surprised if the writers didn’t know who Gossip Girl was going to be until they started writing the last few episodes of the last season. I’d be totally onboard with Dan being Gossip Girl if there weren’t so many plot holes. Making one of the main characters Gossip Girl from the start would’ve made a lot of people figure out that it was them (they’re always onscreen and if Gossip Girl sends out a blast when the character is on their phone or not in view then it makes it obvious). Dan was onscreen when these happened, honestly it’s just confusing lol.
I read somewhere that it was meant to be dorota... and it makes sense!! Dorota heard all the drama from blair, serena, ect. but even so i rlly liked how it wasn’t her bc she is probably the most likeable character in that show, in fact i watched it with my mum and we would constantly go off about how sweet and sisterly dorota is to blair and to the other characters
TinyGalaxy i agree, if there wasn’t so many plot holes with dan being gg i would of accepted it more, also if he got the ‘karma’ he deserved, not marrying serena all the main characters being fine with their secrets being out in open (mind you they where about 15/16 at the beginning of the show) as well as how manipulating dan was himself but also as gg....
I kinda head canon that dan says he is gg and everyone is rlly freaked out and disgusted so they no longer talk to him and whatnot...he then becomes the guy from ‘you’ considering that character is basically dan but more arrogant, stalker like and ......muderous
I'm sorry but, I hated serena. Like she literally slept with Nate while he was with Blair and everyone forgave her, and when Blair got mad about that people made her the bad guy. Serena has the audacity to get mad at Blair for the tiniest things too, when Blair breaks her back to make serena happy, and has to live in her shadow. Like I would be bitchy too if that was my friend, but the fact that Blair stuck with her shows how much she truly cared. And serena didnt return a shred of that energy. She was willing to give Blair up for a boy smh.
PERIODT
YESS
FACTSSS‼️AND the fact that Serena can never take accountability for her actions. She’ll do something wrong and then be like “But she did this” or “but you didn’t have to-“and just completely pin it on the other person.Like the season she tried to make dan look like he was cheating on Blaire with her and recorded it ,and then blamed dan😭.
Serena gave up a spot at Yale so that Blaire could have it I-
Emily Fisher but do you remember the reason why she went for Yale anyway? I don’t hate Serena, but that can’t be your reason for liking her 😂 Serena went after Yale and didn’t even want to go to college. She didn’t even want to go to Brown.
i literally despise serena because she never learned from her actions. she ALWAYS played the victim.
link qually YESSSSS!! And not her being angry at blair for dating dan while she has feelings for him...WHEN SHE SLEPT WITH NATE WHILE BLAIR DATED HIM....!
Blair never learned either, she literally "learned" something after Nelly told her she was still immature, in the last chapters of Season 6
.
Stop idolizing Blair, he was a horrible person, snob, immature, etc. He judged everyone, being that he had no specific talent to really believe himself superior
@@yukijames1321 Perhaps if Blair had not always been with a face of "disgust" towards society, diminishing his careerism, he would have done better with people, and with it, contacts and work / academic opportunities
@@yukijames1321 You may feel "compassion" for everything Blair "suffered", but I can't, because usually Blair was a bad person, he was classist, controlling and immature (many of his fans do not admit that he was immature, but if he was, literally in the last season until Nelly tells him). Anyway, Serena was still a case, she was immature, she didn't take things seriously, she victimized herself a lot, etc.

Interesting how GG literally aired over a decade ago and yet is still the talk of the town. The OC and PLL were just as strange and terribly written but none really has gotten the longterm promo that GG has. Ppl still rave over “Blair Waldorf style” even tho it’s pretty outdated and she only dressed preppy for the first 2 seasons until they started putting her in rich mom clothes anyway. Maybe it’s the vibes of the show. Pretty people and pretty lives. Juicy drama that’s unrealistic but entertaining. It’s fiction, after all.
The OC just got on a steaming recently and it's on HBO Max so I think that's the biggest reason. And Pretty Little Liars ruined it's rep after the horrid spin-off plus you can't really ignore the A reveal like you can Gossip Girl
the oc was actually better and had potential if the main writers didnt leave after 2 ... then came back acting as if they didnt abandon the show causing it to have low rating, killing off one of the core even!! lol
I prefer Spencer's fashion than Blair...
Uh The OC was fuckin iconic
In the speech, everyone apparently hates rich people, but in practice, we love to see how they live, and we wish we were rich too. That is probably also a factor in the success of that program
i kinda think gossip girl should have never been revealed... imagine at the end of the season finale, somebody mentions gossip girl, and all their phones go off, and then the show ends. maybe that would be too disappointing for a lot of people (especially teen audiences) but i always thought of gossip girl as more of a "big brother" kind of thing, or probably an entire network of people, and not just one actual person. i am definitely putting too much thought into this
Honestly, I agree! They're all basically gossip girl because they all contribute to each others downfall by posting to gossip girl about the secrets they all had.
@@theblondieandherbf this^^ literally everyone was gossip girl
I always saw Gossip Girl as somewhat nonexistent, in the sense that she's more this omniscient narrator distilled through a blog than an actual character in the show. I never really cared about her identity and I wish the show had left it vague.
@@slavmetal agreed! and i think, even if it were pegged on a different character rather than Dan, it still would not have felt satisfying or justified. because like you said, the "character" of gossip girl felt more like a narrator and couldn't possibly be one person tbh, especially not one of the main cast members
@@jessharkness5534 yeah exactly, even if they had picked a character who made more sense, I still think it's better to leave it open. giving her an identity kind of undermines what I always took to be the point of GG, that everyone is in some way responsible for feeding into it.

At the risk of sounding old (I'm 30), I feel like Gossip Girl was more of a cultural phenomenon that you had to be there for to truly experience and appreciate. It first aired when I was in high school and season 1 really changed the zeitgeist. Remember when mid-season new episodes got delayed due to the writer's strike? It sort of turned it into two seasons instead of one. Overall, Season 1 still holds up, and Season 2 is great too if you can get past the fluff. It changed fashion, trends, and pop culture forever, and it was WAY racier than anything on-screen back then for teens. Now we have Euphoria, etc. but in 2007 it was spicy. I also loved the books as a teen.
by the way, I did not mean to imply you can't enjoy Gossip Girl at your age! it's just a different experience is what I meant. I'm just harking back and showing my age. my comment wasn't even directed at you; just at a more general feeling I wish everyone could've gotten to experience in the mid-'00s!
I watched it last year for the first time and still was obsessed with it
Maybe I was too young but I had just enters middle school and was secretly watching the show because I remember liking it for being rich people Jersey shore. I felt like the writers were trying to be too edgy and now that I’m in college I prefer euphoria cause I can relate more.my point being it wasn’t really a phenomenon but a iconic piece of tv for that time, I would argue it was like a sexier richer degrassi with more plot holes.
Girl, 30 is not old at all! There is no “risk” here in saying your age if you’re above 20! I actually don’t like how there’s this criteria on the internet now where you have to be below a certain age to be considered “young” or to enjoy content. Honestly, 30 is the new 20 anyways haha
do you know how many YEARS( from like grade 7 to about grade 9 ish) I wore headbands because of Blair Waldorf? I also don't understand how my 10-year-old self was ever allowed to watch Gossip Girl or the OC
Serena was the most annoying character, she whined about everything and made everything about her. Honestly glad she didn’t end with Nate, he deserved better😂
Don't forget Vanessa...if you hate her cause I honestly do
@@issastickup8622 is it bad I hate Vanessa?
I honestly think jenny was the most annoying and whiney character. Jenny and Dan are the worst characters on the show by far and I dont know how someone as nice as Rufus had such terrible children.
Omg accurate 😂😂
YEP
Am I the only one who thought Taylor Momsen's acting was actually a bit stronger than most of the main cast? She started the show when she was 15 and the rest of the cast were 21+. I thought she really held her own and the reason the character was annoying was because the script constantly sabotaged her. She was way more emotive than Chace Crawford or Blake Lively (sorry) in my opinion.
Definitely agreed. It may not have been Taylor’s passion but it was definitely something she was talented in.
Yes but I’m biased 😂
she wasn't a great person irl but I agree. she was a pretty good actor
daisy she seems lovely??
am i the only one who loves jenny? like, weren't we all teenagers once? i'm currently rewatching season 2 but even then she had a lot on her plate. she was homeless for a while because RUFUS IS ALWAYS SO STUBBORN, ARGH (he doesn't make a great a´parent), elenor took advantage of her talents and since jenny inherited rufus genes its not possibly she would be quiet, like, ever.
i think jenny's the real serena in the point of "i really didn't know what i should do instead", because often, she had no choice. the high school hirarchy only seems stable because we see it from blairs and serenas point of view. jenny reigned with a different fear than blair, but because she had to. vanessa stole nate from her, jenny loved him nonetheless. also nate never aknowledged her feelings, he just brushed them off. how she screwed serena was bad, but then in this show they screwed everyone, even their best friends.and to top it all, after rufus and lily married the money went over her head. but again: she was only fifteen or so. doesn't mean you're not accountable for your actions, just an explanation. (also blair did some questionable things herself and had serious mental health problems which were just forgotten by season 5, but everyone thinks shes the "queen".)
also i feel that most of you seem to confuse the actress with the character. just because it was said that taylor was a bitch, doesn't mean, jenny was. wow, sorry for that long paragraph. i just love the distressed side characters, i think they're more interesting^^
the most annoying thing for me was the disposable relationships mostly nate and serena had, they introduced a new girl/boy and i knew i had to skip those scenes cause i knew they wouldn't last longer that 5 episodes
irwin hood it’s kinda like that in the books too.
Omg yes! Nate and Serena always had a new boyfriend or girlfriend.
I didn't mind Serena having a lot of relationships because she was the one in control and was the heartbreaker, but with Nate I felt bad for him because he wanted love so badly and no one stayed 😭
my favourite reoccurring line in Gossip Girl is "it's in the past now" when they talk about their bad behaviour, I'm sitting here like sis that happened just YESTERDAY???!!!
"its a part of my past"
"but its happening right now..."
i COMPLETELY agree that Jenny is overhated. She was just trying to fit in and survive in a toxic environment where they value scheming, lying, money and popularity above all else. We forget that Jenny was younger then all the other characters and is still learning many lessons. The show showed us that for girls more than for boys popularity is currency and necessary for survival at constance so its no surprise that Jenny did many things to fit in. We also need to remember that clothes and money were so highly valued and many of the shitty things Jenny did was to hide the fact that she wasn't as rich as the others.
Also, Jenny attempted to improve the culture at Constance when she became Queen Bee by destroying the hierarchy and standing up for Nelly Yuki when she was bullied. Although it was unsuccessful, we should still admire the attempt (something that no other character tried).
Also, she took responsibility for her actions and made a conscious effort to improve herself. After she got involved with the scheme involving Juliet that led to Serena's hospitalisation she moved to Hudson, recognising that she needed to escape the toxic environment of the upper east side.
I think that the audience and the other characters (ie. Chuck, Blair, Nate) are harsher on Jenny, Vanessa and Dan despite them making the same or less severe mistakes as the others. Perhaps it is due to the fact that they are outsiders and they have a try-hard nature about them?
Idk about you but Jenny was litterally one of the best characters in the earliest seasons. That sleepover episode where Blair tries to humiliate jenny and Jenny turns it around and pretends shes Blair to not get in jail? CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. She grew so quickly and adapted to the toxic environment and it was so entertaining.
Thank you!
Totally agree. Story wise she is one of the most interesting characters on that show and she has had redeeming moments.
omg YES
@@theblondieandherbf Jenny was the only character with "character development", she was dynamic, in every season she was different. Instead all the other characters just "matured" in season 6

@Eve Williamson yep he is
Dan goes to NYU for school and falls out of love with Serena. Then changes his name to get out of that life and buys a bookstore from an old dude named Mooney. Truth was being GG made him become psychotic and obsessed, which turns him to a life of being obsessed with dream girls. Turning him into the infamous joe
And before that he killed his stepfather .

"It's not your past if it keeps happening" Daaaaaaaaaaamn
dans character became so unlikeable towards the later seasons when he became a famous author and would do anything to be involved in the lives of the elite
He was unlikable but I think the character arc was interesting, however it was ruined because the just dismissed it a the end
liking because true but also your an olivia hye orbit
It was so weird that every single “poor” character was demonized by the show and the writers, like never once were the rich kids forced or asked to genuinely check their privileges. The non rich characters were just written as evil and quite frankly annoying. And it was so weird when they tried to get “deep” and lampshade the class divides, It felt hypocritical coming from the writers who kept glamorizing horrible rich people and demonizing poorer people who weren’t worse. Like I’m not complaining I still love the show, but it will be interesting to se how the reboot tackles that, and frankly I’m all for a reboot where the gossip girl mystery is never addressed and just a plot device. Like who cares who is gossip girl, there’s no point to finding out
Right that’s a huge problem I always had with the show like the social class status of trying to make it seem like lower/middle class people are vindictively jealous of privileged rich kids who are seen as complex and glamorized anti heroes. Plus the only real lower/middle class character was Vanessa (and it’s ironic that she was also the only nonwhite main character on the show as well), Dan and Jenny were low key upper class their dad constantly referenced how much millions of dollars he makes with his royalties from his band back in the day. The only thing is with dan and Jenny they just didn’t live the elite Manhattan lifestyle as the other characters their dad was just more responsible and humble with his money
The show wasn't written for your sensitive snowflake "check your privilege" generation
Susana Lopez to be honest im from a very poor background and couldnt care less about this. i thought it actually exposed the toxicity of wealth. dan’s and jenny’s moral codes are both entirely corrupted by the pursuit of wealth. rufus is THE ONLY good parent in the entire show. i think its actually a pretty astute social commentary that we’re constantly reminded that serena gets away with things purely because of her wealth, and as viewers we too buy into that and excuse actions from other characters. tbh i kinda liked seeing vanessa as a villain whose sole motive wasnt jealousy or the pursuit of wealth, but revenge and resistance to the corrupting influence of wealth. idk though, just my opinion. i think people look too deeply into this. ive never viewed gossip girl as an overly romantic view of wealth though 🤷🏼♀️
Phoebe G I can actually see that interpretation, but I think that is being too generous, I do agree with all you say about Vanessa, but her failings were mostly framed as victories, and Serena’s advantages while pointed out were ultimately what saved the day, or resolved the problem. I feel like tho show planted interesting seeds for commentary on class divides but after season one the we’re like “screw it” and went the simplistic “rich people fun and edgy” route. I know it that gossip girl isn’t really that complex at all and it shouldn’t be the place where you go looking for social commentary, so it really struck me as weird when they still tried to have those “deep” moments. Either dive deep into it or don’t imo. Still I do see how you can take that away for the show because I can see those ideas planted in it, I just don’t think they were ever developed
Kevin 5012 honestly! Always felt like Vanessa was done dirty. I wanted to root for her but the writers just made her the worst.
I actually like Dan and Blair together. But I agree with you I wish the relationship had more time to flourish, I like the realisation that they had a lot in common and it looks like it was going somewhere but it burns hot for a minute then fizzles out. By the time it ends and we know he’s Gossip Girl, Blair is sneering at him with the same contempt she always used to as if they never dated until Serena reminds her they did. But the couplings at the end feel less like the product of conducive writing and more of a case of “the fans liked these pairings at the beginning so we should do it” “what about Dan and Serena being step siblings?” “Oh yeah. Guess we can split up the best couple horribly and Dan’s dad can date Lisa Loeb for some reason”
Also also... the show is visually immense. It’s pretty people in pretty clothes set against cool music. And for me that’s what is good about it, it flows like a magazine of not just what’s cool at the time but things that just would always be young and stylish and cool. And for that reason I’m very excited to see they have the original costume designer returning for the reboot
the contempt with which blair regarded dan after she went back to chuck also kinda ruined alot of her character growth, especially considering that even before they dated, blair mentions more than once that dan is her best friend
Blair was going to end with Dan, but the public got angry because they wanted her with Chuck. But yeah, Blair and Dan were going to be endgame.
@@siliconvalley6280 Yeah Leighton Meester made a comment when the show was ending about how the audience decided what couples ended up together. So Chair was totally just fan service.
am i seeing what i'm seeing? a dair loving environment?
they get over the fact that dan is gossip girl and “ruined their lives” because he didn’t actually ruin their lives. every single main character except nate sent in countless of tips into gossip girl. they all partook in each other’s downfall. if they didn’t want gossip girl to have so much power they shouldn’t have given her that power in the first place.
No I honestly think the writer’s just wanted to wrap up the show with a big shiny bow that the fans would fawn over, given the vindictive and judgmental nature of every character on the show there’s no way that news would’ve gone down so easy and even though it was revealed years later and they had all matured I still don’t believe they could’ve changed enough to just let that go they might not have schemed and plotted revenge like in their youth but they would’ve cut Dan off or something and while they do supply GG with a lot of ammo a lot of the drama happens when strangers take photos of them and send tips to GG so while she wouldn’t have a lot of private information if they themselves didn’t send it she would still have enough to cause significant damage
“If you don’t like them what do you like about gossip girl” litrally have always wondered this exact same question...like I pretend I do not see the pilot ep sorry
Exactly. Pilots are not to be considered as fact since it is before they know the direction the viewer audience wants things to go and have an idea of the character. No one can change my mind.
I saw that the writers regretted how they wrote Chuck’s character in the pilot, so it’s not canon and not really a part of his character. I treat pilot Chuck as a different character than Chuck in the rest of the series bc that’s the only way I can watch it 😭😭😭
Okay but Chuck assaulted Blair in season 4 and traded her for a hotel in season 3. So he never got better. And I like all the other characters besides him so...

in season 1 jenny wanted to be like blair and was open about it but she also wanted to be "careful" not to get dragged into the heavy drama
in season 2 after being humiliated by blair, jenny wanted to get away from popularity because she knew she would get sucked back into her old ways so she focuses her time on designing dresses and trying to build a fashion line. Rufus (who literally told her to stay away from all the drama and blair too) he sees that jenny is making her own fashion line to get way from the old drama and decides to shut her down and take her back to school with blair?????
im not saying she shouldn't go to school but he literally had no problem deciding to homeschool her once she lost the opportunity to start her fashion career
also once jenny starts getting homeschooled she realises that she has no reason to be because she no longer has anything to work for (because of rufus) so she goes back to school and surprise surprise she falls back into her old ways and rufus is like "What happened to the old jenny who used to make dresses and didnt care about popularity"

The main reason I watched and keep rewatching gg is, other than Blair Waldorf, the Waldorf penthouse. I'm in love (actually obsessed) with it and I'm slowly fixing my house to resemble it as much as possible.

Fun fact: They wanted Jenny to be gossip girl (just like in the books) but the actress refused to come back.
P.S. Sorry for the bad english lol
Your English is amazing.
You're doing fine.
Jenny was Gossip Girl in thr books? I read them all but I don't remember.
lmao that wouldn’t have made sense at all she literally exposed herself so many times in season 1 alone. she would have had to purposefully put her own bf simultaneously exposing herself n
Jenny would have somehow made even less sense than Dan lol
i think everyone ships chair but they fail to realise the toxicity of the relationship. i know i’ve gone through the same thing.
tia I think that’s why I prefer Dair, until the plot made Dan into an asshole just so she could go back to Chuck-
Pretty sure Nate is the only character that’s hardly tinted by the asshole syndrome pretty much everyone else has to go through.
“chair”
Sydney Agnew i didn’t ship blair and dan at all... i didn’t like dan’s character at all tbh
Kendal Robinson it is their ship name lmao
It wouldn’t bother me if people would admit it. I mean I ship chair or Ross and Rachel but I at least acknowledge they aren’t the healthiest relationships but some people like to delude themselves into thinking otherwise. And if I’m honest I’m much more tolerable and open if both parties in the relationship are toxic to each other and okay with it than just one partner abusing the other until their a shell of a character they once were
I HAVE NEVER CLICKED ON A VIDEO SO FAST-
ofc because GG is top tier ALWAYS.
I love it with no shame
On rewatch you can definitely see the plot holes, but I still think it kind of holds up. It makes it interesting that he wanted to be in so much that he was willing to put himself out there as GG-but that really would only work if he didn’t have a happy ending.
I don't ship Chair _because_ I like Blair. She literally at one point said she feels like a little, insecure girl when she's with Chuck, and secure when she's with Dan. I also don't feel like setting up Dair as romantic was sudden, you could argue the writers were writing towards them getting together since s1 (when they were intended to be endgame). The actual execution of them becoming canon was sudden though.
I seriously love Dan and Blair relationship and how much healthier their relationship was!

honestly, dorota revealed to be gossip girl would have been iconic
I liked Blair because she wasn’t perfect and knew it. I enjoyed her character had a lot of layers to make her the way she was. Disliked Serena because she did bad things like everyone else, but acted like she was perfect and a victim the majority of the time. Liked Dan until they tried to force him to fit the GG side role 🙄. Nate was sweet and likable, even though he still made too many dumb decisions. Hated Chuck.... well because he is Chuck Bass 🙄. Jenny I enjoyed in the books, but not the show.
Blair is the typical girl that in real life no one would stand and everyone would hate. People like her just because she dresses well, is pretty, and has character (albeit a cruel character). Personally I think it is because most people would like to be cruel (like Blair), but in real life you can't be bad, so they settle for seeing it in fictional characters
Blair was a big SNOB
blair was great, she was a terrible person but she was entertaining
i really liked jenny, she was hardworking and personally i think she just needed more support from her dad (he literally let her become homeless to prove a point about him being correct)
serena was good at first but she became so boring, most of the time all she did was get a new boyfriend
unpopular opinion but i loved dair. they brought out the best in each other and were such an unexpected twist, their relationship was funny and cute dan clearly loved blair more than he ever loved serena i mean he dedicated his whole book to her, i don’t understand the hate towards them
Same I agree
he also wrote louie's vows to blair when they were getting married. she said he was her bestfriend, and that he made her feel safe. he took her to the met steps to make her feel like a princess, told her he'd love her child with someone else as his own, and was never possessive of her. he treated her with respect, and saw her as his equal.
thank you thank you thank you i have been looking for this comment. the build up of their relationship except for the actual time when they were dating were well written and felt natural, and it was clearly shown to opposite chuck and blair’s. blair was so unhappy with chuck!!! season six was just used to ruin dan’s character so chuck could seem more suitable :/

I actually like Dan and Blair! They're intellectually compatible, not toxic to each other, caring about each other (Dan was there when Blair lost her baby and all that). It makes sense that they would eventually like each other, what makes me mad is, they never worked on that storyline before, and didn't even finished properly. So yes, in another world, they would be perfect
Serena reminds me a lot of Elena Gilbert, they have that same energy.
no no nooooo never that Elena is so much more.
I agree, that like victim energy
Well but Elena actually was a victim the most time of show, being chased and I can't even count how many Times someone tried to kill her. So Serenas problems are way smaller that's why she is more annoying (to me)
maybe vampire elena but not human elena I mean yeah everything is always about elena but she isn't generally bad i still hate her tho but i love serena haha
I agree to a certain extent. For most of the show her life was constantly in danger and that does make her an actual victim where as Serena does bad things and on occasion she gets what she deserves and then complains. However Elena’s problem would’ve been solved a lot easier is she had gone more with people original plans and such. She should have been a lot more careful.
The Dan was Gossip Girl thing sucked and personally I think it should have been Dorota.
I think it would've made more sense if Eric was GG
@@jlshadday6401 how? he was living in a different city in a beggining and after faded as a character as he went to college...
Jodi boynes I think he was supposed to be in the first two seasons, but then people guessed it so they had to change it
How on earth could Dorota be Gossip Girl? She's a mature adult who cares about her family and Blair rather than useless gossip or schemes. Dan being GG actually made sense. He always wanted to fit in, to belong in the upper east side, infact maybe more than Jenny. Being GG gave him a sense of belonging and to be talked about, even feared although his identity being hidden.
Jodi boynes it was actually supposed to be Eric! But the script was leaked so they made a last minute change and made gossip girl to be Dan
My hot take on Dan being Gossip Girl is that if the writers didn’t consider it when they wrote those scenes, I shouldn’t have to consider it when I watch them
Long overdue. The first two seasons of gossip girl was litt and then downfall after season 3 expect season 4 possibly the best season of the entire series and then finding out Dan was gossip girl ... say no more. I also hate how the show did towards its classism and social class status theme and the racial minority/LGBTQ characters when the show takes place in the middle of 21st century NYC. I hope the reboot fixies that
Everything about vanessa’s character should have made me like her, she was literally the only minority and kept getting screwed by the privileged rich kids, but they just made her so unlikeable I- And dont get me started on how they just used Eric’s coming out as shock value and the completely forget about him :/
Susana Lopez right the actress who played Vanessa said she left the show bc the writers and the producers just didn’t know how to write her story as a inner city minority character. As for Eric, they just had him come out and boom that was it they didn’t even incorporated chuck bisexuality or dan’s bicurious phrase that were in the book series that would’ve been more interesting. This is why diversity both in front of and behind the scenes is important.
@@susanalopez5052 she's a lot better in the books, I find her super relatable and her interests/personality are established better + she has a buzz cut, isn't that so cool??? (tho I haven't read all of them so take my opinion with a grain of salt)
Valeria Rossini yeah in the book series she basically what Blair is in the series per say meaning she’s more of the most complex character of the series
@@susanalopez5052 thank you, his relationship with johnathon was so insignificant and then they’d randomly have a plot line where him and johnathon weren’t talking and expect us to care like they never got screen time together don’t expect us to be invested in them
Honestly, if I had been a writer and didn't have ANY idea of who gossip girl might be, I would put the gossip girl blast at the start of the episode, and narrated by Kristen Bell, and develop the plot of each episode in the aftermath of the blast. I would also argue, for the character that's gossip girl, that they HAD to reveal some of their own secrets in order to keep the facade, but have those secrets be inconsequential in the long run (for example, not messing with their university). That's just me tho.
You can only enjoy this series while wearing rose colored glasses

What I’ve really learned is that the true Gossip Girl was the friends we talked about behind their backs along the way.

The problem with Nate were his girlfriend’s... I can’t remember liking any of them 🥴
i love how the copyright disclaimer is the closest thing you have to an intro
As a teenager: I absolutely adore GG and will love it forever.
As an adult: I was very VERY stupid.
To be honest, I thought that they were setting Dan and Blair up in season 1 with that talk at the photoshoot, and they had great chemistry.
Not to mention that Chuck was an attempted rapist and a douche for most of the show.
agreed- i think they slowly built them up throughout the seasons from enemies to friends to lovers. i just always enjoyed watching them together cause their scenes were more fun ? not everything was twisted and dark, but they had a great chemistry as enemies, friends and lovers. also idk even if you ignore chucks behaviour in season 1, he's still an awful human being in most of the other ones ? it's painful to watch him get away with it
If they introduced Dan and Blair’s relationship earlier in the show I feel like it would’ve gotten a better fan reaction. They were like the younger version of Rufus and Lily.
@@carolineroses9800 Have you even watched the entire Gossip Girl? Chuck Bass has the most character development in the show. Dan and Blair were awful and for me din't even happen. I think most ppl can agree a real life relationship of chuck and Blair would be toxic. but you need to admit they changed. One of the reasons it’s so toxic is because neither of them had experienced in love , knew how to love, or could break down their walls to an unconditional love. They weren’t ready for so long and it made the relationship toxic but when they finally both opened to live and removed their walls and dealt with their baggage they became much more healthy and that’s why I love them. No I would not date to let anyone I care for be in a relationship like this but. The characters of chuck and Blair are a different situation and highly exaggerated. Not to mention how they couldn’t say I love you and loved to play games like pretending to cheat- they were different and exaggerated but we all loved them and if you don’t then idk. The way they grow together through their issues is my favourite.
I managed to get to season 2. I love the storylines and melodrama, ESPECIALLY the bitchy back and forth one-liners, but sometimes I can only stomach seeing a character get beaten down for the most minor of reasons so many times. Mainly Jenny. I didn't mind when she was being a brat, but whenever she was trying to be nice they just pick on her until she is only able to react in a mean way.
Overall though, good show. Glad my College Lit professor made my class watch this and write a final essay on it.
LOL tortured is a strong word for the way gossip girl works. these are billionaires & its referenced in season two that the kids could have used their power/resources to find gossip girl they just don't. they used it to their advantage. GG made Serena relevant & she loved it she pretended not to because not liking attention fits into her new reformed persona. as for the others GG's attention set them aside from the other UES kids. Serena even was GG for a bit & blair admitted she'd love that kind of power. ..actually so would i haha

The worst thing that EVER happened on this show was everyone just kinda dropping the fact that Serena’s dad made everyone think her mom STILL HAD CANCER TO KEEP HER DEPENDENT ON HIM. How was this not a bigger deal? They even get back together at the end. Like. What the hell.

Do any of you guys realize that in the 1st episode they use a different actress for elenor(blaire's mom) than they do for the whole season? You can also espcially tell by her voice. Did the writers think we didn't notice that or...?
Okay I LOVE this video and I agree with pretty much everything you said. I watched this show as it was airing and I can rewatch it endlessly as an adult because it takes me back to my mid-aughts teenagehood. The style, the technology, the music - it all screams 2007. As an adult I obviously understand that the majority of characters are toxic as hell and the show should be treated as a soapy, campy glamorous escape from reality and not as something to try and relate to. I was extremely invested in GG forums/chat rooms and the top guesses for GG’s identity were Eric, Dorota, and Vanessa (we all knew Georgina was too obvious). There was even a short-lived theory that Serena was GG as a way to keep herself relevant and at the top! And fun fact - the test audience guessed that Dan was GG after the pilot viewing because there’s a scene at the end where GG’s voice overlaps him typing on a laptop.
