""It's a little bit longer of a video" I speak for all of us, this video wasn't long enough. Could have listened to you and Larry for atleast 1 more hour. =)
Larry wanted his broadfork to last an Eternity! Wow I am amazed! We have lost that thought in our society.
I agree. I always enjoy talking with Larry. This was definitely long for a UA-cam video though. It doesn't stop me from posting it though. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@JoshSattinFarming I've watched many 3 hour UA-cam videos because I found the content interesting. If you're patient enough to grow a plant from seed, you're probably patient enough to embrace a longer, interesting UA-cam video. LOL. I'm glad UA-cam norms didn't stop you from sharing Larry's process with us. :)
@@JoshSattinFarming The algorithm may not like it, but that does not mean those with a real interest will not sit through it.
Larry grew up from guarding the chickens and became a blacksmith, that's adorable
Don't know if you (Josh) or Larry will see this but I have loved the authenticity of this video for some time. Probably watched it a dozen times over the last year. My kids bought this (The Bertha) for me for Christmas this year. I'm very proud to own such a piece of craftsmanship. Looking forward to spring.
This is going to be a great day of business for Larry. I just got off the phone with him, made a purchase and also discussed him making an additional handheld tool for me as well to which he was receptive to doing. Thanks Josh, this was a good one this morning.
Larry is a great friend of mine. He is top shelf!! You are only getting a glimpse of his total goodness in this video. His architectural works have the same amount of detail and perfection.
We definitely need more Larry in this world. Great interview.
I’m going to use my broadfork Larry made for me now. 👨🏻🌾💚🌱
Couldn't agree more! Thanks for watching!
that was fantastic. Blacksmithing is the King of Trades, the hammer the chisel the spade. Farmers and Blacksmiths have a special relationship. Inspiring to see its not lost.
I saw this video a week ago, then ordered a broadfork from Larry. I'm so excited to break some hard soil with it. Thank you!
Larry has the best voice! I could listen to him all day!
It's such a treat to be able to get tools from a master craftsman rather than off the shelf from China. Thank you for bringing Larry to the spotlight!
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Isn't that the truth Trisha! I like to support local whenever I can and was grateful to hear Larry will be shipping out my fork soon. 😁🌱
I've made my own last year, with a bit less research then Larry. This year I'll make a second generation, smaller, better constructed, less paint, and better handles... Larry's knowledge is worth it's weight in gold!!
"Go, Larry! Go! Go! Go, Larry!!" We love Larry!! Ashleh and I have had a Big Bertha for a few years now and we absolutely adore it for our plot. It might be one of the few tools we are sure to split an even 50/50 in use. Want to get a larger plot just to broadfork with Larry some more. Go, Larry! And thanks for making this video. 🍻
What a great man and better story teller
You can just hear the passion in his voice how he tells his story.
Wisconson always has the best hippies! Id love to buy one of these
Respect from Africa 🇿🇦
Great story and awesome craftsmanship. Thanks Larry and Josh.
So appreciate this interview with Larry, especially after bending a couple of broadfork tines. Wish I'd had one of Larry's tools! They are strong, beautiful!
I only have raised bed gardens for my own personal use, but this makes me almost want to put up a high tunnel and do no-till just to have an excuse to order Larry's broadfork. Phenomenal interview, Josh. I enjoyed this so much and truly appreciate you bringing these stories and interesting people to our attention. I wish both you and Larry great success. Beautiful craftsmanship on that broadfork.
I am one of the fortunate persons that crossed paths with Larry.
His forge spent a few years in an unused bay in my Electrical Contracting shop here in Wisconsin.
Watching his design and manufacturing perfection was most interesting.
His tools do not break!
He is indeed a grounded and intelligent bonus in today’s fast paced world.
So glad my son, John, forwarded this Utube video to me.
I miss having Larry in my world.
Truly one of a kind!
I'm glad this video got forwarded to you. Larry is awesome.
Oh wow - the Whole Earth Catalog! I loved those!
The garden fork may be hundreds of years old, but the broadfork was invented in the 1950's. Still based off older tech, but relatively new implementation!
I agree Larry is a Rock Star !!!!!💯
Incredible man! You can see the passion in his eyes, they just light up! Want one of these broad forks now:)
We need more Larry in the world. Great video. I bet he gets more business from this video alone. Bravo Larry.
Agreed. I hope so!
thanks for intro to Larry! You can tell he loves his art - appreciate his passion and focus as that's the way all craftsmen should focus on work.
You can tell Larry knows his stuff and is passionate about what he does. He comes off like a teacher or someone who is used to speaking to an audience. Great video.
Thank you. Larry definitely knows his stuff. He has also done a lot of teaching.
🙏🏼 Josh this is fantastic! There’s an author, Martin Prechtel, he said knowing where things come from and who made them; living in a home with only the items that he can trace back is so important. He calls it “house of origins”. Larry’s workmanship certainly qualifies.
Thank you for inviting Larry! Also the magazine Growing for Market is a treasure trove of information. Really appreciate the videos you’re doing which are helping folks grow more food and make connections. 🌱🥬🧄❣️
Thank you! It was a real pleasure getting to interview Larry and share his story.
How are you able to find all the best "salt-of-the-earth" people?? Interesting to hear that he spent time in Alabama, my original home state.
My dad taught me plenty about metal and woodwork but Larry is a whole different level. Thanks for the awesome video.
This was great...thanks!
the 'Broadfork Philosophy' by Larry the Blacksmith ..... 😎👍
Blessing to this elder!
Rock on Larry!!
True craftsmanship
Absolutely loved this video.
Such a great build.
Awesome blacksmiths Larry ❤️
I’m getting one. I loved hearing his story.♥️
I love these interviews you do, thanks so much for sharing the stories of real people.
Awesome vid and the story behind the love he puts into it!!
Larry, you rock! Thank you for sharing your perspective.
Sold! I've been wanting a broadfork for over a year now and I'm so psyched to have one that Larry made. Thanks Josh!
Awesome! I love mine!
I've been wanting one as well as looking forward to viewing this video now.
This is one of the best videos I have seen. Thank you for interviewing a craftsman, a person who deeply cares about the work, the impact on our environment, and the legacy for upcoming generations. I ordered one of his broad forks tonight. I’ve been looking at various ones, but I could not pin down one I trusted to be made with quality. This video convinced me that Larry’s creation will fit the bill. Looking forward to many years of service with my new tool. Thanks again. Blessings.
You're welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video. The first time I talked with Larry and then met him I knew I wanted to share his story. I'm glad I got the opportunity to do it.
That fork looks great.
Loved it. Very impressive.
Larry, very cool story.
Cool, I met this guy years ago at a spring Organic Grower School conference, in the Asheville, North Carolina area.
He was way cool. I miss those conferences, u should be speaking there
Such a wonderfully honest and sweet story. I really appreciate this video.
What a wonderful story🙌🏻💗 Thank you for sharing your passion and talent with us💗
Yet another great video, Josh👍🙏
A truly fantastic video Josh, made my day my week my month and so on....The world really needs more people like you and Larry and so many others you have brought to your channel, I am very thankful to you, there is hope for us all :)
Larry is a fkin rockstar ! Thank you 👍👍
I just made one over the winter to and it turned out awesome. Works great and it’s just how I wanted it.
that's really a nice tool to have
Hi Larry! Great work on such an amazing hand tool! Ty for sharing a bit about yourself and your dedication to helping to make things more of an art-form, a dance, in gardens across this great continent! Blessings always!
Wonderful story and interview, thanks for capturing it. Where I am it's difficult to get a lot of stuff so I've learnt to make it and make do, this has inspired me to have a go at making a broadfork, Larry sets a very high bar!
Thank you for such an incredibly interesting interview. Much like the ones with Jeff Bender, it's such a pleasure to listen to someone who is so well-versed in their craft. The forethought, detail and precision take this seemingly simple tool to the level of art. Not as grand, perhaps, as his decorative pieces, but no less enduring and meaningful. I love the connection to the Old World and through the generations-how more human can it get to use our brains to develop tools that help our bodies to feed our families and communities?
Thank you for this video. Pure art.
You are very welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.
You have a great knack for these interviews. Thank you for sharing this story.
Thank you! I really enjoy making these types of videos.
Awesome video Josh :)
I've been using one of Larry's broadforks for a few years now. What a fantastic tool! It's definitely my favorite tool on the farm!
I have a very small garden. I have no use for this. This makes me think I should get one to hang on the wall as art. Well done!
Rototiller story was terrific picture; with the wire winding up.I laughed like crazy. I remember the U-bar from John Jeavons book.
Just wanted to comment and say the framing and focus on Larry is fantastic!
The world needs more people like Larry. What a fantastic attitude
Agreed!
Thank you! Loving hearing the story behind the product
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
Wonderful video! I love learning more about the tertiary industries around farming. Looking forward to more.
Thank you!
Great story! Thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
great video ,, thanks for sharing ..
You're welcome. Thanks for watching!
I finally committed and bought the big Bertha today!!!
What a great back story about such a committed and talented craftsman! I love your channel! ✊🏼👊🏼❤️
Thank you!
Hope you can keep up with the demand for broad forks after this video Larry
Wow, this was so interesting. Larry just calmly told his story and probably sold several hundred broadforks....me included. I like the design and how he selects his raw material and pairs it with the handles. Total education on an essential tool for the garden. Thanks Josh!
You're welcome. I hope he sold a bunch of forks. He makes good tools and he is an outstanding person.
Excellent! Many thanks. Ordered mine today. Also great connection. Excellent, excellent, excellent. Thank you!
Awesome! Enjoy the new broadfork. I love mine.
Brother, one of your best videos yet. This is magic. Keep the stories coming. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome. I love sharing people's stories.
Great video. Very impressed with Larry and his product. Ran right over and purchased one. Thanks Josh and Larry.
Awesome! Thanks for watching and supporting Larry. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.
Love the title
Thanks Dave!
Wow, what a great interview! A highly valuable and informative person Mr. Cooper is!
(As a side note, I wonder if his ancestors were barrel-makers? Could you ask him if he knows?)
Thank you Josh for sharing Larry with us will be purchasing one A.S.A.P
You're welcome. You won't be disappointed in one of his broadforks. I love mine.
Thank you Josh so much for introducing Larry to us! I've been putting off for 2 yrs buying a broadfork and just not sure or confident on what to purchase. After seeing Larry and the bertha I made my decision and ordered it! I'm so happy to be able to support Larry and feel his ethics are in line with mine. Just wanted to thank you Josh and to letyou know your work means so much to us out here. Much love from upstate NY. 🌱😁
You are very welcome!
Just ordered.....Can't wait to get my new Bertha!!!!!! Thanks Josh for such an in-depth video
You're welcome. Enjoy your new Bertha! I love mine!
Great video Josh and I loved Larrys story. I have raised beds and no plans yet! looks at the front yard of expanding
Thank you!
It's always humbling to get to know the craftsmen behind the tools if the trade. Larry seems like a neat guy, hope to see him make more appearances in the future.. heck maybe some more tools.
Larry is great. There will be a tool maintenance video with him soon. I think he does want to develop some more tools soon too.
such a interesting video. Larrys makes a raw tool but it is complicated in its function. Reminds me of a Merle Haggard song, "Are the Good Times Really Gone For Good?" "I wish a Chevy and a Ford for last ten years like they should" Everything should be made like this. Kudos Larry. Thanks for sharing Josh.
Great video!!
Thanks!
Wow what a story! I’ve been looking at other brands for almost a year putting off the purchase. Knowing who made it and the time put in to the workmanship made this an easy purchase. Thanks so much for sharing
You're welcome!
Coolest man alive
just placed my order!
Awesome! Enjoy!
We have one of Larry’s broad forks 🤙🏼🤙🏼Western North Carolina
Awesome!
In the netherlands where I live it's called a Woel Vork, some have an extra Bar for pushing the 'fork' in with your foot and to create extra leverage, however the pins get bent easily, which looks not to be an issue which this guy's design, nice!
Just purchased a Bertha. Thank you for the video. Very informative.
Looking forward to using this quality tool. Cheers!
Lexington NC i have one of Larry’s
Awesome!
Nice
Thanks Josh, I spent the last 2 weeks trying to find a blacksmith in the UK to build me a broadfork and I damn near bought a grinder and a tig welder to do it myself. Emailed larry.
Glad I could connect you two!
put larry's second video. It is excellent video
Darn, I had to buy one just now.
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.
His manufacturing standards of minimizing waste and chemical use isn’t wacky environmentalism, it’s a common sense business practice. Unfortunately consumers today want flash over substance, so we only have ourselves to blame. BTW, I still use a gallon of linseed oil that my dad bought 50 years ago. Great stuff for tool handles!
I like how this title is an unintentional ode to your video about your guard goose
Haha. Yup!
Thanks Josh I just sent an email to see how much it would cost to send to Canada . Tell him thanks for keeping it old school it goes a long way these days. John and Tracy at Ever Smiles Gardens
You're welcome. Glad to connect you guys.
Just bought one and then watched the video 😆
instead destroying trees we can be able to use Forest as building blocks then tearing blocks. I love the Teal colors. I hope you can this wise advise why? We can be able to change the world in 2 ways not just 1 we can be able to grow gardens in trees and grow them on the trees and we could make a new species
