Just discovered your channel after UA-cam recommended it to me! Watched two videos so far and they’re great!! Was really pleased to see a couple of people in the comments recommending my channel. I am covering similar topics, but your production values are way beyond what I could create! :) Anyway, nice to see that there are others out there with the same drive to share game design knowledge on UA-cam!
Adam, thanks so much for the comment and encouragement! Yea, I’ve been inspired by game design channels like yours and that made me want to contribute to the space. You’re channel is definitely one people know and respect for board game design tips. So I’m excited you found mine. I hope to make more videos in the future soon!
Since 17 years - which is exactly half my life - I am talking about becoming a board game designer one day. Even though I had many very different ideas over the ideas, I never really started developing aynthing. Next January I will cut my wagework to four days a week and really get things going. I am super happy for having found this channel and I am looking forward to your other videos!
@@NewBoardGameDesign Any ideas for a new video? I'm working on my idea for a board game, and your stuff is inspiring me. Even tho it's completely diffrent project, you know) Don't through away your channel, please, find time for it!
I startet recently exploring the world of boardgame design on youtube and can recommend GDC Channel. It is mainly about digital games but a lot of content is viable for board games as well, some talks even specificly about boardgames.
There is a Playlist for boardgame topics in the Channel, furthermore search for the following keywords for really interesting talks there: loss aversion, cursed problems, first tree, eleven years without a hit
I’ve actually watched those too, Bernhard! You’re right. They have good insight. Those were some of the first videos I ever watched about board game design. Thanks for the comment!
You can be the Game Makers Toolkit (GMTK) channel for board games! Jamey Stegmeier is definitely my go-to channel, but I also enjoy some GDC talks about Board Games that you can find here on UA-cam.
The board game design community needs new (and qualitative) ways to talk about creative design processes. But platforms like Ludology or Board Game Design Lab already helped me (an aspiring bg designer) a lot in that respect. They talk about mechanisms, different design concepts and theories, they give awesome advice, and yes, they talk with designers about their process. I'm curious to see what you bring to the table and if your content will match the (awesome!) production quality of your videos.
Yes, I'm familiar with Ludology and BGDL. I started listening to them a couple years ago and DEFINITELY sparked an interest to design more. Thanks for the comment and viewership, Maxime. Keep those suggestions coming!
Super excited about your channel!! Wow. Quackalope sent us here. We are board game, board game design, and board game content creation enthusiasts! The quality of content here is insanely good. We are attempting to make board game content of a similar grade, !75 i’ve gotta say, you’re doing better than us 😂 And we are super passionate about design too! I, Evan, have worked on probably close to 10 different design projects but I haven’t quite finished one yet! It’s my favorite thing ever. One of the main reasons we decided to start a channel is to grow an audience and community! And whenever I do finally decide to publish a game I’ll have people who might wanna buy it and support me haha! You’re absolutely right though. There’s not nearly enough content about design. So dang. I’m stoked for your content. and i’m super excited to engage in conversation about design! We have plans and aspirations to make content about board game design, but we have only dipped our toes in it so far! Anyways, welcome! You’re doing everything right so far. Super excited to see more from you!! Cheers.
Being Friends thanks again for the support! I’m having fun so far and it makes it all worth when people go out of their way to show interest and encouragement. It means a lot. I’ll check out your channel too. Feel free to send me ideas you guys have! I love to chat about this stuff
Your videos are so good that I nearly don't want to start my own board game design videos. Is this your first video ever or do you have some other background in video creation?
Yes, exactly this! I am so excited to catch up on all your videos and watch new ones! I've been dying for more content like this! As someone who's head is constantly exploding with potential game ideas, yet struggles to being those ideas to life, this is exactly what I needed!
Nice intro. I have tried to to make some board games on my own. Some are ok, but how can I make them better? I'm hoping your videos will push or guide me to where I need to be in getting the board game(s) complete. I hope in the future you talk about how can a game publisher can take a look at new ideas in board gameplay. But my journey starts at the beginning so I'll be watching.
Thanks for the comment! You gotta keep designing and playtesting!!! If you're trying to make a game design better, try aiming for that "feeling" you want players to have when they play. What your favorite mechanisms from other games that could add up to create that feeling? Just throwing out questions here. Thanks for the view and engagement. I hope to keep encouraging folks like you to continue their design journeys.
Manpig Bear thanks for the sub! Yea, Quackalope’s video was extremely helpful. I love his community and videos, so I’m proud to be an endorsement of his channel.
Look forward to what may come of your channel. The pandemic has had me working at home, and somehow I've ended getting back into board gaming, which I haven't done 25 years. I work in IT support all day, so my creative side has been crying out for years for a way to express itself. I've started working on some designs, a way to express myself, and my ideas, and so I look forward to what your channel might bring. I agree though, I do wish there were more video channels from board game designers.
Thanks for the comment! That’s awesome! You should DEFINITELY keep working on that game. You’re right, designing is a satisfying way to express yourself. I feel that too. Good luck on your game, and feel free to send me some of your ideas!
Very excited to see where you'll take us on this journey. I'm relatively new to the board game hobby, but theme is what really draws me to a game. I've played games with great mechanisms but weak theming or a theme that doesn't resonate with me & I just don't get those back to the table as often. I personally am also drawn to story in the game. This may be why I love so many Lord of the Rings based games as well as 7th Continent, Forgotten Waters, Above and Below... Thanks for pulling back the curtain on your process and letting us come along for the ride.
Billy Indiana thanks for the comment, Billy! Yea, I’m with you. Theme is very important to me too. I’m still very much in the process of clarifying mine for this game. We’ll see where it goes!
Really love this concept so much, I've been needing some media on Board Game Design in my life. It's such a fascinating world and one I want to experiment with. Can't wait to see more!
Totally agree! I just recently started posting on YT and IG after realizing it was silly to fear my ideas were going to get stolen. Posting is so freeing! Getting the community involved brings in so much more visibility, support, motivation, and enjoyment ✊🏽
Very curious how you will progress in your vlog content and game design. Great production quality! On a side note, I'm trying to do the same thing but more half arsed 😆. I'm finding out that the vlog is eating design time but on the other hand it's giving me healthy deadlines. Good luck!
Your Game Is Garbage Thanks for the comment! Yea, running a channel and taking your game design seriously are two heavy commitments. I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself to FINISH my game quickly. Instead, it’s all about celebrating the process. What is your game(s) about?? I’d love to hear about it.
@@NewBoardGameDesign HA, many game ideas but all in progress. I talk about it in the first episode I think. I can't wait to hear more about yours. My experience is that research is key. You will often find yourself reinventing the wheel.
Love the idea of the channel!! Have subscribed to see where you go from here!! Have you checked out Adam BoardGame Wales? I think together with Jamie he produces the best content around board game design topics out there so far! Also the Ludology podcast that has been mentioned is another very good resource! Very interested in having more quality content around the topic. Best of luck!

Yes it does!
Not gonna lie. I came here to judge. I left impressed. Keep it up.
