Picked this over the Sonnet. Just couldn’t pass up the value you get. Mode wins on aesthetics (against most boards honestly), but sound wise (at least according to the Tubes) they’re pretty evenly matched. Plus I have a Mode already and wanted to see what QK was all about. Thinking of experimenting with light tactiles on this one. Hyperglide browns, cotton candys, chiffons maybe. Should be fun. Great content as always.

Absolutely! It really changes the market quite a bit. I prefer the QK for sound, and finish. Don't get me wrong, zoom TKL is really nice, but I think this edges it out.

Great question. There will always be something new that comes. If you see something you like aesthetically with a nice typing feel and sound, and it's in your budget, go for it. This is a Great starting point.

Aww np homie. Taping the flex cut means to put some tape over the flex cuts only under the PCB. It helps with the sound loss flex cut pcbs tend to have.
It made me wondering what this keyboard would sound like in a good clickies like BOX whites v2 and Zeal's Clickez switch. I am planning to buy this as my end-game non-clicky custom keyboard with Chosfox & JWICK's Voyager switches soon so am excited for that! ^^
Zoom75 IC was posted yesterday on Reddit. It's not an exploded layout so it's best to make your choice based on layout design. Both brands deliver great products.
is the the mic setup (the mic, the surroundings and gain) the same across all typing tests? The board seems to sound louder with all dampening applied, which is counterintuitive.
If you are referring to the PE sheet "dampening". It is kind of a misnomer since it only really dampens the higher frequencies, while reflecting lower frequency with a signature mid level frequency (hence the "marbley" sound.) With some frequencies being reflected directly off the PE foam towards the user/mike instead of into the back of the keyboard, the PE foam does sometime make the board louder.
Mic placement, gain and environment all exactly the same. I do all the tests at the same time just for this reason. On the QK boards, adding all the foam amps it up quite a bit. Same for the OwLabs boards. It's the PE, plus the covering of the flex cuts. 🙏

eh not really. Those two are perpetually in stock, and after you factor in shipping the barebones QK75 is about $60-70 more expensive than a Q1. I'm not comparing to the GMMK Pro because frankly nobody should buy it if the Q1 is an option.
@@user-kz9rz8ui1c I disagree, I said that for other reasons. I've heard a LOT of stories where people bought a GMMK Pro and the screws were so tight that they stripped when trying to take them out. From the beginning they've said that the gasket mount is incredibly stiff and everything is so muted that all switches sound the same in it. There's been issues with the plates. The customer support is notoriously awful on top of the issues.

Is the taped PCB flex cut mod similar to traditional tape mod @Clackbait? You just cover the whole side with tape?
It actually sounds different. Taking the whole PCB adds or alerts the sound. Taping just the cuts mitigates the sound loss

Very similar to the QK60 in sound, quite a bit better than the QK65 imo.

Hmmm. If you want a fuller clacky sound without foam, I think the Sonnet may be the way if it's in your budget.

It's subtle, but is a noticeable difference. If I wasn't using long pole Switches, you would be able to tell more for sure.
