Money doesn't buy happiness, So sad how he treated his own family,so bad.looking from the outside, he treated everyone else so nice. Two face personality. Sad the some of his sons killed themselves. Then to leave them only 5,000 out of 70 million. So cold

Bing Crosby left each of his 4 sons from his 1st marriage $5,000 even though he was worth $50 - $70 million when he died.
The will specified that if they contested the amount they wouldn't even get that.
He was mean to the end.

I was (guess I still am, although not as much) a huge Old Hollywood buff. I recall reading in many biographies of the actors/actresses of that time how Bing Crosby was very difficult to be around. He was extremely aloof, cold, standoffish, had no close friends, kept everyone at arm's distance and everything about him was superficial. He never got close or warm with anyone. This was a common assessment of him in the many different books I had read over the years.

I knew Phil Crosby during the 1960s. He was a sweet, funny, and considerate guy. Alcoholic, of course, and the last time I saw him he was laid out on a pool table somewhere in Los Angeles. Nevertheless, he deserved a much better father than he had. Phil had a good tenor voice and sang in a variety of venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. I always wished he had had a better family life. Even with a great sense of humor, there was a sadness in him that was palpable.

Fathers who take out their issues on their kids- especially their sons- has always been a common problem. People just didn't talk about it. My father was a very harsh disciplinarian and we were all afraid of him, but my oldest brother got the worst of it. He is a gentle and kind man in his old age and was always a highly-regarded member of the community, but he had little patience for his own children.

It would be hard to get a perspective when you are born at the top of the mountain and never really seeing who it can be down in the swamp. Also - you can do the right thing 10,000 times and do the wrong thing once and that's what they can remember. Grand-kids.................now that's a piece of cake. There are more secrets in Hollywood than you could count. People spanked kids with a belt well even now. That wouldnt cause suicide. I must have missed how they committed suicide. I just kept hearing this one died and that one died. If 5,000 is true...that is horrible.

Bing Crosby was the worst father ever. He was harsh and no love towards his sons. Actually it seems he had NO heart. Poor guys, they were stolen of their youth and fatherly love (which Bing Crosby was enable to give). I never really liked Bing Crosby anyway. He sung very superficially.👎👎👎
