I knew Phil Crosby during the 1960s. He was a sweet, funny, and considerate guy. Alcoholic, of course, and the last time I saw him he was laid out on a pool table somewhere in Los Angeles. Nevertheless, he deserved a much better father than he had. Phil had a good tenor voice and sang in a variety of venues in the San Francisco Bay Area. I always wished he had had a better family life. Even with a great sense of humor, there was a sadness in him that was palpable.

I can't understand the thinking of any parent who, after divorcing their spouse, not only leaves the spouse behind when they build a new life with another spouse but they leave the prior family as a whole. You don't divorce the children.

Money doesn't buy happiness, So sad how he treated his own family,so bad.looking from the outside, he treated everyone else so nice. Two face personality. Sad the some of his sons killed themselves. Then to leave them only 5,000 out of 70 million. So cold

I was (guess I still am, although not as much) a huge Old Hollywood buff. I recall reading in many biographies of the actors/actresses of that time how Bing Crosby was very difficult to be around. He was extremely aloof, cold, standoffish, had no close friends, kept everyone at arm's distance and everything about him was superficial. He never got close or warm with anyone. This was a common assessment of him in the many different books I had read over the years.

Bing Crosby left each of his 4 sons from his 1st marriage $5,000 even though he was worth $50 - $70 million when he died.

Fathers who take out their issues on their kids- especially their sons- has always been a common problem. People just didn't talk about it. My father was a very harsh disciplinarian and we were all afraid of him, but my oldest brother got the worst of it. I always enjoyed his singing. I have many recordings of his singing in my music collection. I was never that interested in his movies, but when I was " way younger", they were often on tv. Our tv choices were really limited, and I watched many.

Even in his movies there was a coldness about him.

Imagine how terrible Colombo tv show would have been had Bing the thing had taken the part! Luckily we were blessed with Peter Falk

I the 1960s and 70s,living in San Francisco,I would see him in the downtown area, usually coming out of an ice cream store, can't recall the name.Near Grant Avenue.

Narrative is boringly repetitive... same story given out x4 ... ! Hardly anything new about the Crosby family dynamics -- addictions & abuse wellknown for many decades already !

Show Business is way far from an ordinary career. It's really unfortunate that "Bing" had so little involvement with his sons!
