The health principles of antiquity were reactivated by the cultural revival of the late Middle Ages, thanks to the medical and philosophical rediscovery of Greek antiquity. According to Hippocrates (5th century BC), man's nature consisted of four humours: blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile. The German abbess Hildegard von Bingen (11th century) stipulated in her theoretical corpus that the unity of the cosmos and man is to be found in balance of the four elements and the four elemental energies. This documentary reviews Hildegard's particular view of the humours and some of her advice for maintaining good health.
