I can never understand how man can profess to love and and is obsessed with u but so easily share is affection with other women and turn is back on you at the drop of a hat. The Harem bullshit rarely ever ends well.
I disagree. They made their own choices, just as the Emperor, the only difference being that the Emperor can get away with his shit. Nothing can justify their wrongs. There were concubines who never harmed anyone in the Harem or if they ever did, it was to seek justice for themselves, and most of them lead peaceful lives. The ones who schemed, however, died turbulent deaths. It's not like they've been through what Zhenhuan (Empress Dowager) or Ruyi herself went through. Those who were hurt by them suffered way more, so they deserved their karma. Everyone suffers, it doesn't give you any right to harm other people who have nothing to do with it. We need to stop confusing understanding with tolerating or accepting. We can understand why, but it doesn't have to be acceptable.
I think Ruyi still love him even on the end. Before she died, she recalled their memories pleasantly, watering the dead plum flower with herbal and told the king 'flowers bloomed and withered'. It doesn't mean she doesn't love him anymore, but the fate that brought them together has gone now. So it is like 'farewell, my lover'.
As she said the one she loved was the younger, kinder hongli not the current emperor. That's why she cuts her hair, which means mourning like a dead person. The emperor takes offense thinking that she is cursing him whereas she is actually realised that he is not longer the man she loved and she mourns that
Nah...she told Rongpei: "Do I love him? NO" She did not even want to be in a painting with him lol. I think you hope she still loved him...but she did not.
@@AmanishaketoMeroe No, when Rong Pei said ‘you still miss the emperor’, she replied that the past happened so fast as if it never happened or just happened tomorrow, that’s why she said she didn’t miss him. What it really means is what she’d been through had already exhausted her and there was no point on dwelling in the past and the grudges she had with the emperor. In the end as the dowager said, she cared nothing but keeping her love and virtue. She ripped the painting not because she hated him, because she didn’t want to be empress anymore, all she wanted is to be a wife caring for her husband.
No, I think she doesn't love him anymore. He was abusive, slapped her, condemned her with hurtful words, compared her negatively with Fuca, and then did not believe her at all. How could any dumb woman love his kind of a man. I prefer Ling Yunche, unconditional pure love & respect for her.
The series shows Ruyi as the most honest and had to duck and dive all the time while she was in the Forbidden Palace. You can understand her cutting her hair and wanting out. How did he repay her? Reading her history it makes sense the reasoning behind her decision. Her disappointment in him was obvious and from the beginning it was all about her love and just wanting to his wife. His first empress and the various concubines that caused death and suffering all deserved what they had coming to them. I think he was the worst of them. What a let down.
I think what he did was to grant her wish.. and that is to be free.. the meaning of cutting the painting and she did not accept to be empress again and when the emperor read the letter she gave to yongqi. She wants to be free from the palace and wants her spirit to be free.. the king can't give her an empress funeral because she did not accept the tablet and the symbol of empress , that is why she was buried as a noble consort only.. truly heart breaking

Ruyi is absolutely beautiful and wonderful. What an amazing actress!!. Her expressions should earn her a "golden" trophy. Even Mom Dowager realized Ruyi was a sincere kind heart.
They should make a sequel but with the next emperor. Then we can see the decline of the Qing dynasty. Either that or the very very end of the dynasty when they were like, "we're communists now! abdicate your throne!!" And the emperor was like, "okie~"
That will hardly happen. Apparently the Chinese government was quite concerned with the aftermath of these popular period dramas, as people were catching up on vocabulary and vernacular expressions. Let's say people were getting too fond of the Imperial life. Which is why (my guess) newest "period"dramas (such as promise of Chan'an) are based upon fictional kingdoms, while sometimes waving at things that really happened.
@@Christ-Ina86 because of her ambition and greed for luxury and to be empress. But at the end, whatever a person do bad will goes back, what goes around comes around. Same with what happen to hongli, no one loved him honestly
More like obsession. She practically discarded him for the Emperor's favour, but still wouldn't let him live his own life. She basically saw him as a possession that she could do with it as it pleased her. She's disgusting. Ling Yunche and Ruyi turned out to be the biggest victims of this whole show. Both were subjected to toxic relationships with their childhood loves.
Personally I'm glad that he suffered finally. He is the one that brought that snake Wei in. I just wished that their was more of an argument when he went to beg her to take the Empress seal back. Tell him where to stick it.
Yes, many of them realized too late that all that scheming, all that power play, all the intrigue....gave them nothing in the end. Sure they got posthumous promotions and titles but when your're dead, it really didn't matter or amount to much.
You will only know when the one you love is gone that you missed him or her. As for old age, everybody is gone, parents, wife or husband, brothers and sisters, grandparents, cousins and friends. As if all the leaves of a tree is gone leaving a withered tree behind only just memories will be left behind as time will not wait. He is just a man between heaven and Earth! That is why we should take and make the most of our time while we can, bad or good!
I agree but if his truly love Ruyi than why didn't he go to her funeral and he also didn't give her the queen title! Why? He very selfish indeed! He go to the first queen and give her a title! This show that he really don't care but Ruyi!
@@whitejasmine_027 he didn't let ruyi be buried as an empress because ruyi wanted to be free, ruyi never wanted to be empress all she wanted was him and for him to love her, alas all he did was disappoint her and in the end all she wanted was to free herself from him and any memory of them.
As weird as it sound but I like to watch movie where a person facing death, so naturally I like the conversation she had with her maid before she go. At the moment we face death, it is when we realized what we want most. Most people will not think about how much money they made or how many hours they worked. Typically they think of who they love most and regrets. That is when a person truly know their core importance of their lives that they tend to ignore in a busy noisy life.

Why everyone are depressed by the fact consort ling's son is still future emperor? He is her biological son but she will never have their honour or joy to learn it. For all those of suffering while her children are adopted by other women and barely know her, one of her daughter despised her. Her daughters were engaged with powerful clans as her sons are loved and one became the heir for his endeavor. Knew it or not, she will never share such glory, as everyone in the palace know that 'imperial noble consort' is only an empty title for the sake of the children. And she was a wretched, evil tortured woman behind that name. It is fine if the 15th prince is emperor. She had nothing in the end still.
This is what power does to a man. He started well but ended badly. This is the reality in many lives people change so drastically at the taste of power. Good acting though!
It is only at the end of a man's life does he realize how important were those decisions he made at the beginning of his life. The Emperor now realizes he made terrible choices in the beginning. No do over for him. Which is why it is interesting that his last act is to set her free by cutting his hair before he dies, so she will not have to be with him in her afterlife.
No le quitaron su título y si estaba loca, ni cuenta se dió de su castigo, además su hijo fue el emperador siguiente. Realmente fue premiada, porque su nombre aparece en la historia. Claro, que ya muerta ni cuenta se da
It is painful to find that he didn't appreciate her when she was his wife, he lost the love of his life, the only person who really live him,not for power or money, only becouse she admire him, all those people who die becouse he didn't believe that concubine was a killer. he believe in her more than Rhue.
He wasn't the man she Married for very long time. His jealousy and to weak to defend her made him bully her. He was mean to her. Excuses for the better of people's opinion. She suffered worse than slaves under his control. Guess he finally understood she didn't want her children to Live such a burdensome life. She wanted her last living child to live FREE. NOT like the other women wanting their children to take over the Thrown. She was a BEAUTIFUL, Honest, Loving Woman with compassion and kind HEART.
The empress out lived all the women she hated. I think in the end. She liked even lived Ruyi. Can someone tell why Ling's son became the next emperor instead of the true born son of the empress? So Ling got what she killed to get, in the end.
in this series i think it is cause ruyi said she hoped her son too would be free. as emperor, you arent free, and ruyi did not want her child to go through that, cause she remembered how lonely the emperor was.
In the drama it is because Ruyi writes in her letter that yong ji should lead a carefree life and should not do what he doesn’t wish to do. That is to say, she doesn’t want him to be the emperor. In the real history, It was probably because Ruyi was a desposed empress. She had lost favor and the hair cutting thing was a BIG issue back in the day. The ministers would have probably objected if the son of a scandalous empress was made the heir.
I read Ruyi's son Yongji died at young age. Anyway, both he and his mother was not favoured... The emperor had no other choice than the son of the evil woman. Posthumously she got to become Empress anyway. So unfair....
There was nothing likeable about this Emperor. He was a narcissistic despot who respected no one, let alone love. He lived a miserable life and made everyone around him miserable with his cruelty. He never, not once in his disgusting life, deserved Ruyi. She was so much better than him in everything that mattered.
I really want to see someone write a reborn story from this. How the emperor reborn before he married Ruyi and give all his love to her until the end but at the same time to think how bad is this guy to her, maybe she will be the one who reborn and wish she will never marry him or meet him. Found a man who cherish and love her.

There are so many similarities between this and Magnificent Century. I guess when a king has a harem, it would be very difficult to live a peaceful life.. Only difference is that the emperor seems to have greater power than the ottaman sultans. There was respect for the emperor and the country and there were people carrying out their duties but in e ottoman sultanate, so many people were trying to get rid of the sultan himself and become next sultan... Both kingdoms did not survive the modernisation and came to an end around the 1920s.. Would things have been different if they did not have the concept of a harem and had only one heir apparent like the European dynasties
If they didn't had harem, maybe they will ceased to exist more early, because they didn't had heir to continued imperial lineage. Harem maybe look mess in the drama. In reality, harem had important purpose. Harem ladies also one of the most well mannered women. They just look total crazy in the drama to entertain purpose.
And Ottoman Sultan actually more powerful than Chinese Emperor. Ottoman didn't had powerful noble families. Many high official came from slave humble background, so Ottoman Sultan had more authority and power toward their subject.
@@nfspbarrister5681 answer of both questions are to ensured succesion. Medical treatment back then not as good as nowadays. Children's died rate was high, so you can't just had one or two sons if you want kept imperial line. Sultan Süleyman had some sons before ascended to the throne, but many of them died. Qianlong Emperor had many children, but he outlived many of them.

NO"
She did not even want to be in a painting with him lol.
@@starrynight6268 she corrected Rongpei and said no, she does not love him. Watch it again.

They should make a sequel but with the next emperor. Then we can see the decline of the Qing dynasty. Either that or the very very end of the dynasty when they were like, "we're communists now! abdicate your throne!!" And the emperor was like, "okie~"
"The Last Emperor" is a perfect pick.
Nothing gold can say is during the time of the last emperor, and amazing story
And then the military takes over for the good old totalitarian PRC
That will hardly happen. Apparently the Chinese government was quite concerned with the aftermath of these popular period dramas, as people were catching up on vocabulary and vernacular expressions. Let's say people were getting too fond of the Imperial life. Which is why (my guess) newest "period"dramas (such as promise of Chan'an) are based upon fictional kingdoms, while sometimes waving at things that really happened.

Plus at that point I don’t think there were much candidates. Ruyi’s son was set free from the title of crown prince.
This is what power does to a man. He started well but ended badly. This is the reality in many lives people change so drastically at the taste of power. Good acting though!

Yes, he managed to sit on the throne in the end. But he was not as qualified as his father.
So Pyongyang mom was wei ling they poisoned
in this series i think it is cause ruyi said she hoped her son too would be free. as emperor, you arent free, and ruyi did not want her child to go through that, cause she remembered how lonely the emperor was.
He really failed all the women who truly loved him.

But what's good of having harem and many childrens, when the new ottoman sultan got the throne by killing all of his male siblings?
@@nfspbarrister5681 answer of both questions are to ensured succesion. Medical treatment back then not as good as nowadays. Children's died rate was high, so you can't just had one or two sons if you want kept imperial line. Sultan Süleyman had some sons before ascended to the throne, but many of them died.
