Very nice video, except watch out for scammers cuz there are tons and tons in the used car marked, mostly they ask for a deposit to hold the car giving you some bs story about other people are interested in the car.
And never show up or give you a fake adress to viev the car. Or never show up at your hone or meet.

That’s right. Important to check with the legit shop. I didn’t want to take risk while buying as well. So, bought it from a shop. It is better to buy from a reputable dealer that can do documents transfer, and change number plate as well.

Thanks for the info... At what stage did you hand over your money to the car dealer? And how is this normally done? Transfer name first and then send the money? Thanks

Hello Richard. So, I will tell my experience. We looked at the car, and we approved it. Once we approved, the seller gave us a receipt from his shop of the purchase, the car blue book, and we paid him in full on the spot. He also provided us a signed photocopy of govt id of the previous owner, and a govt vehicle transfer form with signs from the previous owner. (It was done to save the value of the car. If he would have bought the car from the previous owner on his name, then the car would have become 2nd hand, and then few days later when we would have purchased the car from the seller or dealer it would have became 3rd hand. Even though we bought a car from the dealer, our car is second hand, not third hand.)
The car book is the most important thing. The car already had tax paid till September. So, we had no issues with tax, there was no private insurance. So, we bought ourselves a private insurance later on.
After purchasing the car, we went to the transport office along with the signed govt transfer form, and a signed copy of previous owners id to initiate name change on the car blue book, and change the number plate of the car. But we ran into problem as the office did not accept the transfer form, as sometimes they don't deal with individuals easily, but for agents or dealer it is easier to talk, and get the things done. SO, we called the dealer, he came to the office, and he was able to sort it out.
In the end we got a new number plate, and our book on our name.
Now, every dealer can act differently. Some can talk partial amount before name transfer, some can do all the work without you having to visit land transportation office. It mostly depends on the dealer. It is an easy process, we got our car from a local dealer with around 15 cars in store in Korat. Some big dealers can have English speaking staff as well.
In conclusion, we handed over the money before name change on the book. We paid in full, no installments. Every dealer can have different rules, but usually installments tend to have higher interest rates.

@@annandsaminthailand thanks very much for response. I didn't know every owner gets a new number plate.
So basically all I need to start the process is my passport, copies of my visa (non-o), certificate of residence.
Do I need a Thai drivers license to change the name? I am getting that soon but have to wait a bit.
And so in terms of documents we need from the previous owner, its just the pre-signed transfer form and blue book we need, or anything else?
      Thanks again!

    • @annandsaminthailand
      @annandsaminthailand  Рік тому +1

@@RichardJohn86 Right, yes. The book remains same, but the number changes. It took 700 baht for the number change for us.
Yes, you need passport, copies of visa (non-o), certificate of residence. Drivers license is not necessary to change the ownership.
Right, the owner has to sign on a government transfer form, and provide a signed copy of their id. And yes, you need the car's blue book as well. Also, it is better to keep car's purchase receipt, with yourself. It is best if the owner can accompany to the transport office, and help in the transfer process.
It is a quick process overall, and must not take more than 5 hours to get the transfer done, and get the new number plates.
If you are looking to buy a car from a dealer, they can transfer on your behalf. In that case you will need to sign government forms, one for book name transfer, and one for plate. These forms will allow dealer to transfer car on your name on your behalf.
To be fair, it is a simple process. If you have the previous accompanying you, it is even easier.

Hello, there are many factors, but yes as a foreigner you can and sell a car. I don't know about unlimited. Usually there is no tax when buying a car, but buyer needs to change the number plate of car, and it costs around 2000 baht.

Yes, it can be done. The thing is that the import duties on cars are high in Thailand. So, the price can go up.

Glad you went with a good Japanese brand, avoid Ford or Chevy lol...I would prefer a Toyota or Honda if I lived in Thailand. Nissan has been having a lot of problems with automatic CVT transmissions . Keyless push butto start cars do have great conveniences for sure. I own 3 Toyota Prius and a 2024 Camry Hybrid all great cars. Sold my 2023 Tesla model 3.

That’s right, the kms on a litre of oil is impressive on interstate highways. Getting more than 20km a litre easily at the moment. Personally, I prefer pickup trucks, they are rugged and easy to drive on village roads especially during the rainy season because some roads can be muddy during that time.

@@brucewayne2773 That’s right Bruce, for now we can use Father in Law’s truck to carry things. I do plan to get an old truck in the future to use around the village. I like the Toyota tiger, it has a good classy design. Cheap in the villages as well.

Hey Sam, thanks for making this video. Very good information! I am planning on retiring in rural Thailand in a few years and planning to buy a used car/truck to go around. I am a Nepali married to a Thai and currently living in the US. We are trying to buy some land in Kanchanaburi. I was looking for lands in Chiang Mai too since I love that part of the country. Isan looks pretty nice too, but I don't see any mountains there :).

    • @annandsaminthailand

Hello Dai, pahad hai Khao Yai area mai. Ni Nepal jas bahay hi na pahad yha. I have lived in Nepal for around 5 months. I lived in Kathmandu, and Pokhara. I think it will be hard to find mountains like Nepal over here, but Khao Yai in Nakhon Ratchasima have fine mountains with good elevations. The North have good mountain range around Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai but some months due to crop residue burning the pollution levels can be high. Kanchanaburi can be a good choice because it is near to Bangkok. Personally I think there are small mountain ranges spread all over Thailand, they are not longer like the Himalay, but they can be few kilometers long. So, I guess there can be a probability to find some small mountain range in Kanchanburi province as well. One of the mountain range in Kanchanaburi is called Khao Chang Phuak. There can be some other ranges as well in Kanchanburi.

About Car/Truck. Truck is a good choice over here in Thailand. It is also easy to find decent used trucks for an affordable price over here.

Thank you Bro! Glad to know that you have lived in Nepal. I am not expecting Nepal type of mountains in Thailand, but I don't like very flat lands. I have lived in Iowa and Nebraska in the past and hated the flat views :).
I would love to live near Khao Yai National Park. I am an amateur wildlife photographer and so I am always looking for mountains and jungles. I like Oceans too, but prefer mountains.
My wife has a home in Bangkok, but I can't live there. For me, Bangkok is too busy and crazy. The reason we are looking at Kanchanaburi is that my wife's best friend lives there and she is willing to sell us 1/2 rai to 1 rai of her land to make us her neighbors. That is being said, I am still researching (online) other places. Not sure where we will end up in 5-10 years. Let's keep in touch and who knows we may end up meeting someday.

    • @annandsaminthailand
      @annandsaminthailand  Рік тому +1

Yes, I liked Nepal. Sure, there cannot be any other mountains like the beautiful Himalay in all over the world so I can understand.
Sure, Khao Yai is beautiful and during the winters the temperature can go down to around 15*C as well, which is a good relief from hot days. Right now the temperature is around 30*C in Khao Yai. So, the temperature in Khao Yai is better than Kanchanaburi's Khao Leam which is around 40*C
Sure, it is better to research online and live in that place for a few months before buying a land, and building the house because there can be various factors like temperature, pollution, ease of access and so on.
      Sure Dai.

I researched a little bit after chatting with you and found out that Khao Yai is about 2 hours from my wife's home in Bangkok (close to Nonthaburi) and about 1 hour from Korat City. I like the distance from the Korat side and I can be happy anywhere other than Bangkok :). Colder/Cooler temperature is always a plus. I am going to start looking for some options between Korat city and Khao Yai. On my next trip to Thailand, I am planning on visiting Khao Yai and checking out some surrounding areas before making the purchasing decision.
