Oh my! Is there anything that feels as satisfying as sticking your hand down in the pile of freshly milled flour? Slightly warm, fluffy and it smells so good! 15 years ago I used to make all our bread from scratch, my recipe would bake five loaves at a time. We were a family of five at that time, and I made four in loaf pans for the week and one was free-form or rolls. I have such great memories of all of us standing around the cooling rack ripping chunks of that last loaf off the pan, spreading fresh butter on it, eating in rhapsody, butter running down our hands! Nothing like freshly baked bread!

I like this series also. This way of life is making a comeback here in the US, but never really died many places around the world. I'm from the Caribbean, so some of the things you do are reminiscent to me of my childhood life! I actually believe I was a lot happier then, maybe partly to being a child & having less responsibility, lol! Life was still simpler to me cuz there were less material things to acquire & upkeep! I do appreciate being able to be here, as I've learned so much, but many times I miss home, too! I'm looking forward to being able to return to that lifestyle again 1day. I do think, that maybe another solar panel would do you well for LED lights in your home. I remember filling up, lighting, & having to clean the kerosene lamps, & honestly don't miss those! Keep up the good work, I do believe you & your family have made a great choice!

I think we all would love to live more simply. We have scaled down our lives as much as we can but are too old being in our 80's to do what you have done but i can just imagine the peace that you all enjoy. I'm happy for you all.

Huge inspiration. I love the Ozarks and spend as much time as I can there. In mid 2016 I will have enough money saved to buy 20-30 acres in the Ozarks and will begin my journey to homesteading.

Tim, you need to drill a few holes in the trays. Where do you guys plan to place them in the winter? What are your thought about black soldier fly larvae? You don't have to worry about them in the winter.
Love your video's, keep them coming!

We applaud what you've been able to accomplish! We understand living in an RV. We lived in an old Winnebago RV for 7 months; and, a lot of that in the dead of winter. There were 5 of us at the time. It was one of the most enjoyable times; but, because of electrical issues and not having some things conducive enough for a family of 5 in an 20 footer, we moved. We would love to go completely off grid. Just waiting on Yahweh for direction!

Hey guys, awesome work on your videos. Just curious, have you checked into raising Black Soldier Flys? In my opinion they are better at composting than redworms and they produce hundreds of larvae quickly. A simple plywood box can produce a couple of pounds of larvae a day!! Pure protien for your chickens and fish.

I'm new to your channel and I'm so glad I found it! It's actually thanks to Christy from Southern Plate.
We live in the country on 12 acres, but we're not off grid. I'd love to be and dream about it often. I'd do it in minute, but my husband is actually the one that is hesitant, which is so crazy because he loves camping and backpacking!
Thanks for the inspiration. I enjoy every minute. Oh, and I hope to purchase some of those rare cucumber seeds from you this fall!

Jaimie...you are really cool. The whole family melds nicely. I am wondering if y'all will ever have water into the house? Have you ever checked out Off Grid with Doug and Stacy. They set out up but it was extensive water catchment system.

I like the series hope I will also have time to do something similar but mostly related to offgrid house building offgrid Solar electricity and heating.
I will really use at least some rechargeable LED flashlights instead of those kerosene lamps. Kerosene is a carcinogen and a fire hazard to name a few drawbacks. It will also me more expensive long therm than LED flashlight. You can just charge the flashlight's in the office from those two 250W panels the amount of energy needed will be extremely low so no need to add any solar PV panels.
I only have 3 of those large PV panels and power my house including computers, very small refrigerator, LED lights and even electric cooking. We bake our bread in an electric oven and use an electric cook-top. In winter especially this months November and December there is a bit lees sun so less cooking with electricity but all the other things have no problem. There is also a small 300W wind turbine to compensate when there is no sun for a few days in a row.

It's sad that freedom costs so much. Most people have to work their entire lives just to pay for the basic necessities. What I mean is most people would have to get a 30 year mortgage to start a lifestyle like this which requires 30 years of wage slavery to pay off. The majority of people are living paycheck to paycheck and are unable to get anything less than a 30 year mortgage. It shouldn't take 30 years of your life to obtain a basic necessity like shelter.

Nice waffle top! I am wearing mine right now. I am in Korea on one of those new rotational deployments. I am struggling with how to keep Torah in the Military. Between mandatory vaccinations, staff duty, and regulations about shaving and beards...its nearly impossible. I am a medical officer which makes it even harder. What was your experience like in the Army?

When you count on others to provide for you it gives them the power to dictate your life. They control your destiny.
"Wage slavery was not very different from chattle slavery, what they were fighting the Civil War about. In the mid-19th century, that was a common view in the United States. For example, it was the position of the Republican Party. It was Abraham Lincoln’s position. It’s not an odd view that there isn’t much difference between selling yourself and renting yourself, so the idea of renting yourself meaning the idea of working for wages was degrading. It was just an attack on your personal integrity and they despised the industrial system that was developing that was destroying their culture, destroying their independence, their individuality, constraining them to be subordinate to masters. There was a tradition of what was called Republicanism in the United States. We’re free people, the first free people in the world and this was destroying and undermining that freedom. This was the core of the labor movement all over and included in it was the assumption just taken for granted that those who work in the mills should run them. In fact one of their main slogans was they condemned what they called the new spirit of the age, gain wealth forgetting all but self. That idea, the new spirit, that you should only be interested in gaining wealth and forgetting about your relations to other people they regarded as just a violation of fundamental human nature.” - Noam Chomsky
Living a God-sufficient lifestyle is the only way to live!

I'd say the world today is in its position because of what you might say modern technology, we are all born and shape in sin, so there has always been good and bad and the struggle between that and because we as mere dust, just humans continuously fail in that fight before the living God so he made away of escape for this depth we owe to God, he took that unto himself, concurred what we couldn't and nailed it to the cross and ahead his blood, which he didn't have to of course but for the love of his creation just as we love our own children, he covered us and our failures of sin towards him, praise God, so anyway these technology has brought the world to what and where it is today, chaos, confusion, perversion and corruption on a mass scale around the world so the long way around to make the point is your not missing out on anything in this world and the continuous rat race to see more, have more just for it to run you into a ditch that engulfs your very soul, God bless and I pray you have good health, keep you safe from that which would harm yall, that your animals grow fat and healthy and that your children grow in strength wisdom and praise for what God has done and given you and us all, in jesus name
