I had the exact same thoughts. Imagine if a half naked ridiculously attractive girl walked out instead of James. The straight guys would have literally been verbally sexually assaulting her to her face since they are attracted to females. It would have changed the entire dynamic in the room.
People complimenting the gender they arn't attracted to passes because it's inherently non sexual. People complimenting the gender they are attracted to has sexual connotations weather they like it or not. A straight man complimentinga girl on her body would be weird. A gay man complementing a man in his body would be weird.
