Cheap Storage! Pole Barn Pallet Racking

- It just keeps raining so Tractor Time with Tim decided to set up the pallet racking in the pole barn. We need floor space in order to insulate the walls so this seemed like the best organizational option at this time. This pallet racking is great for tractor attachments both large and small. It might be a great option for your shed or workshop.

Tim, You are so blessed to have a wife like Christi. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty...
It's crazy to me that I will actually watch someone else work in their barn when I could be working in my own barn hahaha . Keep the videos coming guys !!
I love the way the two of you work together!
No matter how large the shop , it doesn't take long for things to get crowded ! Some great shelving Tim and Christy ! I have about 20 of the orange pieces but no posts . Thanks for sharing the Scripture Christy !! You all please be safe and God bless you !!!!! EDDY
I built one barn:filled it, Built 2nd bigger barn: filled it. I'm thinking I'm seeing a trend at my place....Nice pallet racks. Never enough storage in a barn.
Wet here too: been mowing at farm last few evenings:some parts dry, some not.Had some deer keep me company for a while yesterday evening and the neighbors dog came by to see what the noise was too.Got about 4 acres mowed on some right of ways: more to do though...LOVING the cab and A/C on my new to me JD 5320.Never even broke a sweat and it was 86 when I started.
Looking good! 👍 Now you'll have more room till you get more equipment! Lol.
Might want to attach it to the wall with a little cable to prevent it falling just n case. Never know when you might drag an implement and tilt it. No I am not one of those safety police but tilted one in the past so.... They look good. Good video
We just moved this weekend and I'm just looking around like... Where do I even start?
And no clue where to find ANYTHING! Every project takes longer because of the hunt for stuff!
I just added a 12' x 32' garage/shed to house my 1025R and as many attachments as I can wedge in. I've decided to make dollys for all the heavy attachments (56" Simco tiller, 48" box blade, & Stump Wrecker out of pairs of 30" furniture dollys and 1 x 6" boards, and use castered scaffolding that can pass over the dollys with the shelf holding the lighter attachments on "thinned" pallets or just as is. My 48" rotary cutter has 4 three-wheeled dollys and the FEL has a set of Peter's Loader Dollys. My Heavy Hitch weight bracket has it's own dolly for that and the suitcase weights and my mower deck has a vertical Heavy Hitch cart. That way I can move everything on casters to swap around for what is needed. Kind of like those puzzles with the flat tiles you slide around to solve the jumbled-up image.
Hi Tim and Christi, been there and done that. One suggestion I would make with the boards across the racking would be to fit a couple of 4x2 flat at each level of racking and screw the cross timbers to them. That way the cross timbers will stay in place rather than move around while you are moving material into and out of it's racking bays. A few of the cross timbers had already moved out of position by the closing shot. Just position the 4x2 flat under the cross boards and up tight to the racking rails, drop a couple of clamps in to secure them to the end cross boards temporarily, arrange the rest of the boards to suit, and run a couple of 3inch screws through each cross board into the 4x2. The 4x2 flat under the rack rails only occupies dead space between the rails, so doesn't impact on the storage space available or access, but locks the cross boards in place ensuring that they cannot move or drop through the rails while loading/unloading the stored goodies, particularly if you will be using the tractor/loader and forks for the job.
You folks are doing swell for just having moved in. I'm coming up on 3 yrs and am still building shelving.
I just installed pallet racks in my garage with help with my dad. It was not easy! Great video and good teamwork!
Those uprights are now like $100 used. Inflation...
One of my tasks at my place of business is building and tearing down that sort of pallet racking...it's an art form for sure. Always happy to give any tips if you ever need them 😊😊
Great teamwork guys👍 shelves look great. God Bless.
Maybe if you dropped the one covering the electrical outlets down one you wouldn't have problems later?
Is the top-shelf too high because it looks like it's too high for Johnny to put stuff on it
Shelves, I like it. Cement floor, I like that even better. Rain, had enough. We're going to be dry for the next 3-4 days. Maybe longer.
Tim Christi what a team very interesting on how other people think
God Bless
PaK
I have the same system. Looks like you and i robbed a Costco and took their shelves!
Shh!
Enjoyed the video Tim & Christy. That will give you allot of valuable storage for sure. Y'all take care and God bless.
Thanks Ron!
You guys get things done in 5-6 months? Hmmmm...
I love the great family-friendly videos thanks again PS is the top long shelf level it looks like a eschewed
You are correct.
Hi Tim and Christy nice job Tim what ever happened about that stolen tractor you bought did you get your money back i hope you dont mind me asking
Lawsuit still in progress.
I have a set of those in my shop as well but they're not being used to store implements. I'd like to see a video of how you're using the shelves when you start filling them Tim. You always share great ideas and i appreciate it!
great work Christie
I have assembled a lot of pallet racking and you are scaring the crap out of me lol. Granted ours is 20' high but we ALWAYS assemble it laying down and use a machine to stand it up. It our case its a small Broderson Carydeck but johnny can easily stand up yours and assembling laying down is safer and easier. We also se bolts to hold the cross members in place on the uprights.
Hi guy's! The Ridg-U-Rak plant that builds that style rack is in my town. Great job guy's!
Its serious work.. like grown men leg peices on steroids
Those racks do need some paint. Orange just doesn't match anything in your building. I think green for the uprights and yellow for the cross pieces would look much better!
I thought you were going to spray foam insulation.
Great video guys. You are living MY dream!! Someday....
Great teamwork, as always - thanks for the video !!
Hey Tim I’m trying to build storage shelves for my implements. So where did you get your shelves.
Search ‘pallet rack’ on Craigslist.
Great job guys !! It`s a plesure to watch you working together.
The more space you have, the more crap you have..
Hi Tim, enjoying your videos. Just bought a new 2038r and I'm learning a lot without napping through the manual! FYI you may consider using some 9/16 inch bolts through the beam into the upright. The locking pins are unreliable. Just saying, I've worked around that steel for 27 years. Forklifts often bump the beam above and knock it out of place.
Love that Kubota orange! lol
I bought pallet racks from @t , I was pretty good! higly recommend
Couple of suggestions on the barn: put out rodenticide.Mice and rats love the taste of the soy based wire insulation of newer equipment. Small spare parts can be kept in file cabinet drawers: label the drawers and finding them is easy. Keep equipment manuals in vermin proof containers (or the house if it's close enough).Cheap 4 wheel furniture dollies from amazon or horrible freight are pretty handy.About 12 x 16 made of 1 x 3's and 4 swivel castors: I use mine for stacks of suitcase weights, box blades, waste oil drum, anything I move around from time to time. Drum funnel for a waste oil drum is good to have too;no mess when filling with used oil.I use oil only absorbent pads to keep drips that may occur from staining the floor. Sooner or later all equipment will get a seep or drip. Also handy when I'm servicing a tractor and have an oops. Why tractor and heavy equipment manufacturers can't locate the fuel and oil filers in a way it doesn't make a mess when changing them is a mystery to me.
Hi there, I suggest you spray foam the walls before you fill it up, you won't regret it. I have a 32 x 52 ft poll building and had it done before I filled up, am very happy it was done at that time.
HOLY DUO'S BATMAN ! .....
TIM 🙋🏻♂️ & CHRISTY 🙋🏼YOU 👈🏼 TWO
ARE AN AWESOME DUO 2'GETHER.
JOB WELL DONE THERE. 👏🏼 .....
AND THUMBZ 👍🏼 UP ON YOUR
NEW LOGO.
( KNUCKLE👊🏽BUMP ) T.T.W.T. .....
Behind all great men is a great woman ( or is she out in front?). Christi / Christy ??? and Mike Morgan's wife should get together - They would be unstopeable. Take care
Awesome job!! I have helped put that up before learned you gain couple inches on those uprights! So if project is big enough something else to calculate for.
Why would you not insulate the wall before putting the shelves on that one wall?
Need the space NOW. No time to insulate.
Safety note,, try to attack rack cross bar or up right to barn post at top to minimize risk of rack tip over when removing or adding pallet onto rack : )
Tie down straps
This guy selling them still in business?? Worth the trip from Ohio
Yes, not worth trip. Search Craigslist or FB marketplace for more local “pallet rack”.
Shame on you You should have painted the uprites prior to putting them up, Paint roller with black or gray paint would have made them look new.
your outlet covwers should be metal not plastic. Plastic is for box inside wall. Plastic break to ez. Witch make it not safe.
Brand of orange support beams?
I dunno. I use craigslist to find local used pallet racking vendor...and work from there.
How cares what other people think? Only matters what you guys think!
I would have liked to see you guys with fall restraints, hard hat , steel toes and safety glasses ! Just kidding ! Nice team work
It looks a little off
I have a set of these racks that I shortened to fit into a regular garage with 10' ceiling. I put heavy duty casters on bottoms to allow me to move anytime I need to clean or blow out accumulated debris. Works great but might not be safe with the full height ones you are using.
They make a heavy duty wire mesh that fits the pallet rack for items which are not on a pallet. I also put a set of pallets in the middle of building. Used two which were a third of the building then connected the two with a beam high enough to walk or drive underneath. Gave a lot more storage. Great system. Cost less than 1/3 of new pallet racks.
Tim nice video buddy you and Christy work good together thanks for video's
What do you use to hang your heavy hitches, hiller and mid buster? On your Terra King TKV how does the boot look like on the deck.
I would like to see Tim load the top shelf with a John Deere tractor. Looks too high for the forks to put a pallet on it
Great job Tim and Kirsty time for a cheeseburger 🍔 🍔 🍔 you two work hard
You going to Go help stoney ridge farmer he is live chating and told us to contact you love to see johnny helping out
What is the Craig’s list site where you bought these pallet racks? I looking for a rack setup like this.
Can you please share a link?
No idea. Search Craigslist for ‘pallet rack’ in your area.
Careful you don't push the attachments into those wall outlets... good team work happening there.
top orange bar on the right isnt in the right notches.. its not square
You are correct.
Looks great! The only thing I was say was the outlet being blocked by the rail; it may be used but looks like the lower outlet would be difficult to use easily once stuff is stacked on it. I know its a lot of work but if the 2 tier shelf was on the other side and the 3 tier swapped.... it would allow the exact same storage and remove the ‘problem’.
Look up Eve Trakway in UK you could do with there stuff get across soft ground or 8x4 plywood sheets builders use over here
Great vids as always Tim. Love how Christi works along with you, my wife does the same.
Tim, take some of your 2x4 slats ,and cut them approximately 1 1/2 inches shorter, then screw them under your slats making a T post out of them. Much stronger and won't bow under heavy loads.
The 2x4’s are plenty strong anyway.
Nice teamwork but I do believe Christy was doin the most work!😀
Tim did you get the pallet racks from the place in northern Indiana, I think he also advertise's in Michigan auto and rv.
No rain here in southern Mi for a couple days, I got part of my garden planted!
Indy Craigslist
I have the same exact racking...good stuff....did mine by myself....
Wasn’t easy.....
Tim, How deep are those pallet racks? They look 3'. I have 2' deep pallet racks, would they be deep enough for attachments like what your're doing?
I think 42”. I do not think 2’ would be deep enough to hold pallets. Afraid they would tip forward.
You guys are awesome. Hearing you break down the measurements, 11 feet divided by 3 is 3 and 2/3 feet HAD TO drive your viewers on the metric system NUTS. I use both metric and standard at work and I work with people from all over the world. Metric is WAY simpler.
Yes. You are right!
Love the menards shirt. One of my favorite places.
watch the wall when your pushing the rack back, it moved.
I hope nothing got exposed very much LOL 😀 I would of put it in the corner but then you said you were going to insulate. Great team work and great video!!!!
thanks for changing the background at the end. i could read it with no problems now.:-)
We use the same in our shop, I am building anew shop and will be going with the scott systems brackets that mount directs to the posts
Great job!!! It's hard to beat using power tools.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo dangerous! No safety helmets, fall perfection, board gaps bigger than .5 inches, half gloves, no safety squints, no hard toes or boots, no mechanical structure support! You guys are bunch wild cowboys out of control. When can you come help me!!!! Lmao. Nice seeing yall work together.
Ya almost had me!
Top brace on right end looks too high to me! Beam looks like it slants! Of course I live in East Texas and I'm not wearing my glasses!!
Left end of that brace is too low. Noticed after video completed. Decided not to call it out. Thx
hey guys hope you have a great week wandering if you see getting one the the sickle mowers for vinni again
I'm curious. Why isn't your channel named, "Tractor time with Tim and Christi"?
Katriel came up with the name before we ever started UA-cam. She would say that I was going outside for some ‘Tractor Tine’
When we started UA-cam, then later formally named the channel, Christy wasn’t involved much with the tractor. Katriel and I did the videos by ourselves. Once Katriel left for college, Christy stepped in to help with the videos.
Measure and put sharpie marker lines where you want the crossmembers. Where I worked we stored product in 55 gallon drums on this style of racks. We were required to bolt the crossmember and bolt the uprights into the concrete.
Did you not see us making marks with the soap pencils?
Tractor Time with Tim guess I’m gonna have to rewatch this
I don’t know how I missed that.
The one we got messed up was purely because Christy wasn’t strong enough to hold it up.
Tractor Time with Tim I think she did a great job, those pieces aren’t light. We had over 250’ of the racking high enough to stack pallets with 55 gallon drums 3 high. Luckily we used forklifts to help assemble them. Your shop is really coming together nicely.
The top Right beam is one notch too high on the right side. Very awesome video, I can't wait to get pallet racking in my shop. Hopefully next year
Not anymore :-). Yea, we noticed it after we finished filming that day.
@@TractorTimewithTim That's good 😁
right side top shelf, high on the right side. hope you catch it before you get it all loaded up. good vids guys
Tim, maybe the wire decking would be a good option. We install a lot of racking. The wire decks make for easy assembly and you don’t have to worry about slipping planks. Adds cost but makes the decks solid.
These are 46” uprights. Not much wire deck available in this width. But good idea.
I think some caster locking wheels to help move the shelves verses scuffing the concrete?
why did you not use the loader on the tractors to lift the beams
we have that at the shop plus it's accully handy you can use is as a stagon for doing work cheaper then renting or buying stagons
Michael Mac Tavish I didn’t know you watch tractor time with Tim to!
@@collinburckle8256 haha hey collin yeah
Thanks for the video !! Great teamwork.Nice to see you work together. God bless !
Tim is strong, cheeseburger strong.
That stuff is awesome I think it would be cool if you had one shelf for a tractor and put your implement on those shelves
I wish you would have said something, i would have run up and helped put it back together.
Yea. Never thought of it. Would love to get together with you again.
Tim, small question, how high is the pallet rack? Did you cut off a piece or not?
Cut some off when it was at the other property. They were 10’ tall, we cut 6” or so off.
Leave the racking away from the wall enough that you can put up insulation behind it.
We did! 10 plus feet from the wall!
You guys did a great job keep on the keeping on ( Robert the P.R)
I have smaller racks, really wish I had some of these larger racks.
Working on a pallet rack project myself came across your video very nice.
Welcome to our channel! Thanks for your comment!
Makes that shed look much smaller.
Your marriage has a very stable shelflife ( all this rain hold off on the shelving and begin work on the ark)
Ha! I like it!
Good storige guy's like the video .
