I dont think the batmobile was inherently bad but they forced you in it too much. Along with the major disappointments of the boss battles and painfully obviously identity of the Arkham knight. Are what dragged this game down. They did polish the mechanics really nicely though.
Absolutely agreed, the same can be said with the "fear multi-takedown", cool initially and well executed at first but it then becomes far too overused and overpowered later in the game...
I loved the Batmobile, but God did most of the game revolve around it. And I miss the boss fights where you actually fight the villain, like in past games with Batman vs Bane or Batman vs Deathstroke. We literally fight Arkham Knight twice in the Batmobile before the third time we just sneak around and hippity hoppity grab onto him on the balcony.
Yeah, I remember when you'll need to fight gigantic jokers, bane, and the quick deathstroke, when I was fighting deathstroke it felt like I was batman myself.. That's why I loved arkham origins.
Not Machi It was easily my favorite one. Best story, boss fights, music, and I love that time in Batman's career. He's still a myth, not a guy walking around Police HQ.
While I agree it isn't perfect, especially when it comes to the predictable story, you have to give credit to the largest, most dense Gotham, a perfected combat and predator system, and c'mon, battle mode was annoying but just driving around Gotham with the Batmobile was pretty cool. I also think they perfected gliding.
The combat is excellent, but the batmobile ruined the game for me. It made gliding around freely obsolete. I just wanted to fly around Gotham, but the game actively takes me away from that due to the batmobile's constant story importance. Also, Gotham was so boring. It was only filled with criminals and made the game feel lifeless. Sure, you could explore a lot of areas and find some interesting Easter eggs, but those didn't feel as interesting as exploring Arkham Asylum or even City.
The batmobile would have been fine if it was just another option for transportation. When I first played I thought the batmobile was pretty cool to drive around in. The problem is that it's the bat tank not the batmobile.
If the BatMobile was just another option for transportation, I can absolutely 100% guarantee you, you would have been in this exact same comment section, and about the same time, saying: "After fans have been for a playable batmobile ever since the very first game, they finally put it here and they make it just another transportation option. What a let-down." I hope that one day you realize this about yourself so you can start changing and finally be able to just do what you enjoy and not do what you don't enjoy, without taking all of your opinions about entertainment products from hype and anti-hype trains.
I can't stop imagining how Batman felt like when he found out that he was gonna have to fight Deathstroke in a tank. Huh. Maybe that's why he decided to quit being Batman. He probably lost the will to do anything after that.
enjoyed the graphics really good graphics but the short dlc ,force to over use the batmobile ,the lack of good boss fights (deadstroke one over all) idk man , it was a good game nonetheless but it wasn't the game everyone was expecting. If this was the first Batman arkham game it would've gotten such high praise but this game had to compete against its 2 past ones which led to high expectations but in the end of the day it's still a very fun game to play
Yeah, it would have been cool in Arkham Knight if you can wonder around the city as Robin, Nightwing, & Catwoman after the whole story was finished or something. I don't know why they didn't do it either since they did it with Catwoman in Arkham City. Really would have been cool if you could wonder around as Batgirl, Azrael, & Harley too since they were in the challenge modes.
@Cult_ to me The Batmobile was a pretty cool thing they added in the game The Tank Battles I do actually love It's a good thing they added it in it I mean he is Batman
I strongly think that the first half of the game was pretty strong. There was a fairly good balance between using the car and the classic Batman stuff we all love.
Lmao no the fuck there was not. Half the intro sequence before ACE chemicals is batmobile tutorials. Then as the story goes on, tank battles are inserted with no good reason as filler.
I honestly think the peak of what a superhero game should look like is Arkham city. Good plot, open world, great characterization, and just an all around good game.
@@DoratTheKiller No, he has a point. The "story" is basically unrelated events happening one after the other, barely being held together by the real star, the atmosphere of the game world.
@@spideydudenof7085its not a mess It just really feels like a wild goose chase for almost the whole game, but the characters and the relationship between the Batman and Joker are really what carry the story tbh
It's sort of unrelated to the video but I just got to the part where you talk about the stealth. I think the Mr Freeze fight in whichever one it was (can't remember if Asylum or City, sorry!) was an absolute highlight. It was probably my age at the time but it was SUCH a scary fight when I was like "heh heh I'll just blow him up from behind the three conveniently placed walls" but then he suddenly informs you "I won't fall for that again" and I was like wait WHAT and the sense of dread just got worse and worse as I exhausted the takedown options. Brilliant! The first villain that made you feel helpless and it was so good for that ice cold atmosphere.
I agree with this. I didn't like the batmobile, the getting the ending is a pain in the ass, and the riddler puzzles and races were the worst things to happen to the arkham games.
The ending isn't even satisfying since The Dark Knight Rises did something so similar a couple of years earlier... It would've been awesome if the game just ended with Batman winning (no identity revealed) and after the credits roll, the words "20 years later" pop up and it's a epilogue with Bruce in the Batman Beyond suit. It's the same mission he did in the first episode of the show, where after he takes out a bunch of thugs, his heart starts acting up and he barely manages to escape. The game ends with him putting the suit away and saying the same line from the show: "Never Again..", hinting that their next game would be Batman Beyond.
Well at first he is. If you haven't seen the show, he builds the suit to keep up with criminals since he's getting old. But once his heart starts acting up, he has to quit. Then years later, Terry McGunnis takes over as the new Batman.
The Gamer Who Does Life riddle puzzles are great. I dunno about in Arkham Knight as I haven't played it but ppl who hate them in the other games have no soul
Despite Arkham Origins being buggy at the beginning, I liked it very much. I liked the atmosphere, the right amount of expansion upon core mechanics, it was just good enjoyable fun for me. Ah, even the bug with not being able to get in one of the Riddler towers was kind of fun, because you had to use a very hard bug exploit to bypass this bug. I don't know, it's just very Riddler-y.
It's not the same combat system. The only thing they have in common is the counter button. Spider-man 2 relies on combo-building and, if I'm being honest, feels stiff and unsatisfying and the Arkham combat relies on flow and jumping from enemy to enemy, which feels awesome. They are not the same combat just because they have a button that does the same thing. Is God of War combat the same as Souls combat just because they both have dodge buttons? If I was going to compare Arkham combat to anything, it would be either Prince of Persia: Warrior Within or Spider-man Web of Shadows. Spider-man 2 is nothing like it.
I agree entirely. I think the reason it's the worst one is because they got rid of Paul Dini (the writer for the excellent first two), so the quality in the writing dipped significantly. The first two Arkham games are made for die hard fans (while also being great for casuals). Arkham Knight is the opposite; it's made for casual fans. We all knew it was Jason the minute he spoke. They also didn't take advantage of having him. They could've given us iconic moments between Bruce and Jason, but there's no real closure between them, which is stupid. However, Rocksteady totally gets the dynamic between Batman and Joker. Everything about Joker fearing he'll be forgotten is fucking spot on. But at the same time, he shouldn't have been in this game so we can get something fresh.
Alex Love Well, taking a look back, I've noticed that this whole series isn't just about Batman fighting villains, it's an overall piece about Batman and Joker's relationship.
I always wondered why those Joker flashback segments are so out-of-nowhere and disconnected. Then I come to find out that Mark Hamill would only come back as the Joker if they reenacted a scene from The Killing Joke.
I want a Batman game like Origins again. During Christmas. Things that would be cool to see -Optional Batmobile just to get around that isn't forced -Batboat -Bat-Cycle or whatever the motorcycle -Going from Batmobile to Motorcycle like in The Dark Knight - Batcave, wayne manor, ad any other property he owns - Cool garage where you can own multiple cars that you can buy - Better Batmobile physics - More rooms - More boat fights (Like the penguin mission in Origins) And a small cameo of a different hero.
B l u r r y f a c e okay everything I agree on except the one about buying new drivables .... also they should include a daytime system where you can play as Bruce Wayne
Rocky Reuben lol no way. (It was ok, there's good and bad, but it's the worst arkham game and has a boring and lazy plot. The boss fights were pretty good tho. Overall tho it wasn't "AWESOME" but it had good things in it)
Carlos D Rodriguez well, that’s just my opinion. I feel like MK is actually one of the better written fighting games out there, but I respect your opinion.
@@lukethelegend9705 It has the POTENTIAL to be the greatest. Fascinating characters, an expansive world, and tons of potential stories that could be told. For me however, ever since to the 2011 reboot I feel that potential has been thoroughly squandered (the older games, while better imo, didn't always capitalize on it either). It's actually motivated me to write a novel of a fanfic about the series, so I definitely don't think MK's lore is bad by any means.
Carlos D Rodriguez good for you! I never said it was the greatest written, I feel like the best-written fighting game is probably killer instinct 2013.

Here what I think Asylum: best atmosphere and great starting point City: takes everything from asylum make it better with some adjustments Origins: best bosses and story in my opinion at least Knight:alright but too much batmobile
Good observation Knight isn't bad but Batmobile seems too forced upon like there should have been boss battles with Arkham Knight and other enemies like Deathstroke in origins
Origins had an awful story it was literally just a bunch of Boss Gauntlet with a bunch of random villains that were never characterized. Arkham City was the only one that hit close to home for Batman I felt like the stakes were actually High
@Shorty if some people liked it i think he should do them. Thats playing to your audience. Having said that i felt like cringy thinking about them doing the skit in public
Overall, I enjoyed Arkham Origins more than Knight. Don't get me wrong, AK was fun to play at times, but it's story was an overall disappointment. The batmobile was definitely overused and it's controls were shit. The Riddler challenges were stupid especially with the batmobile. The fact that the plot conveniently had all the citizens of Gotham evacuated just so the whole map looks more like a brighter Arkham City.... Lame! And of course the build up to the supposed rematch with Deathstroke ended up being ANOTHER tank battle which was exactly like the one we did with Arkham Knight in a previous mission before that. *smh*
Robby Bobby Yeah and then Deathstroke gets taken to the GCPD without fighting back. They made him into a bitch. I expected his fight with Jason Todd to be more climatic like in the movie.
I agree with the Batmobile being a little too central to the games events, but to say it nullifies all of the groundwork Batman does is simply untrue. Batman does just as much detective work in this game as others. Ultimately I enjoyed the game and it's story, probably one of my favorite games to this date. Who cares that they made Jason Todd the Arkham Knight? It was still a fun story and fun build up, not to mention having the Joker show up everywhere and giving Mark Hamill's commentary on everything. Come on, you CAN'T say that wasn't a great aspect of the game.
Too few detective mode sequences and its not good enough, too many detective mode sequences and its too much. Apparently there is no middle ground with you.
Batman's image as an intelligent detective is completely crushed when you can demolish and blow up half the city and cause more destruction than the villains ever could.
This game has some maddening elements like the over-reliance on the tank and the obvious identity of the titular Knight, but it’s still my favourite of the series. It just does so much well and refines what was done before.
Great job Rocksteady, you took Redhood, gave him a new motivation, gave him a new name and pretended he was a new a mysterious character when he's still the same as he's always been. The Arkham Knight being Jason Todd is the EXACT same thing as him being Redhood despite the whole he didn't actually die. If Rocksteady wanted Redhood in the game they could've make Damian the Arkham Knight, take out the tank bomb sidemission, and replace it with Batman and Redhood trying to take down Deathstroke.
GodzillaMendoza Oh I know, but it seems you have a whole list of games to cover, and Ultimate Alliance is next, I believe, and that might take as long as this one.
23:11 yeah in the movie studio mission where you have to type in a passcode from looking at a security camera if you get it wrong enough times then Batman will just rip the keypad out and puzzle solved

Honestly, if they simply hadn't made the Batmobile a literal tank, and just toned it down a bit, at least that aspect would have been better. Even in regards to other batmobile versions in the past, this was the most intense/overwhelming death machine I've ever seen in a Batman universe...and the Tumbler batmobile was literally an armored military vehicle so that's saying something.

You know what, after a few years after it came out. I was happy with the game, but it does has flaws in compression to city and asylum. Most of these were due to the batmoblie but oh well.
AK was had several problems. 1) Plot-hole filled writing. This script was badly in need of Paul Dini to write it. 2) It relied far too much on the Batmobile which is sad because I really enjoyed it but it should have been used better. 3) The art-style and character designs being hyper realistic made this game lose its comic book charm to make it "grounded". 4) Despite being billed as the "final" _Arkham_ game, very few characters got a proper send-off that respected their history. 5) The Arkham Knight identity was way to predictable and really should have been his own character instead of *SPOILER*. 6) While the cinematography is beautiful, it does try too hard to be grand and epic instead of being fun and interesting.
just imagine an older Bruce Wayne before entering out of his prime kind of like the dark Knight returns this is the Bruce Wayne you have in this story before he starts to retire a little bit after his 39th Birthday. plus The tank battles were annoying but they kind of opened a better perspective of how batmans combat skills can be used in his plot agendas which is a huge 10+ compared to Asylum and City . Let's also forget how Azrael was one of the best side missions, let's also ignore that the fear toxin of scarecrow also had a sample of joker's blood and Titan he had stolen from Asylum and Origins. He also used the scarecrow toxin to become a smarter Batman in the future Batman went into retirement and he hid his identity.
Shit was too goddamn shiny in that game tho. Everything looked really slimy and metallic in a really odd way. Especially the characters. It was just grose looking.
The main reason this games was so bad writing wise is asylum and city were written by legendary Batman writer Paul Dini and for knight rocksteady got a big head on there shoulders and decided they didn’t need him. He was never invited back even though he had this series planned as a trilogy since he finished asylum. It’s really sad cuz this was one of my favorite game series and not to mention I’m a huge Batman fan. It still makes me mad to this day we will never see dini’s original vision for how the trilogy would end. Changing major voice actors and drastic redesigns didn’t help either nor did removing boss fights almost all together. Gordon looked like he was 20 years younger than in asylum and city, scarecrow didn’t look or sound at all like the other games tbh origins felt more like it belonged than knight did. I personally think origins was one of the best entries. It certainly had the best character design of any of the games and best boss fights (my opinion of course) hopefully some day dini will share his plans for the 3rd game I’ve asked him twice at cons and once again when I was fortunate enough to speak to him on my podcast and he said he’s saving it Incase he decided to do a “what if book with his ending to the arkham series or just use it for a stand alone story”
J Jaden yes. I remember that being the first thing about this game that I didn’t like. It literally made me worried for the story of the game. He said he was willing to help in any other way with the game however

Yea, its not as perfect as the first two original games, but it is still a solid game, imo, and is worth buying and playing through to gain the finale of the beloved series...
The boss fights in this game were a big waste of potential and the batmobile was overused to a certain extent, but the combat, stealth and gameplay were executed pretty well. Mainly when you're not in the batmobile of course.
As a HUGE batman fanatic, I appreciate you bringing up the overall lameness of the BatTank. It wasn't fun after the 100th time requiring it and not being able to use 1989 batmobile through whole thing, or BTAS batmobile.
I agree with the majority of your points, however John Noble is a great Scarecrow imo. Anyways, Arkham Knight was just a cash grab for rocksteady. Soon as Paul Dini dropped out, it was doomed in terms of story
Am i the only one who feels like this is Kevin Conroy's worst performance? He came off overly stoic and believe it or not overly Batman compared to Orgins where the weight of the world was on Batman and you felt it. In his animated performances he's a lot more subtle and conveys more emotion. In AK, from watching Barbara die to finding out about Jason Todd and dealing with the effects of the Toxin his reactions are really dry and flat, there's was no sense of stress, grief, anger or that he was being pushed to the edge, driving that tank all night must really calm him down
I think what makes him almost emotionless is the fact of what’s going on in his head and what happened to joker. He feels guilt from it. I’d suggest watching Clownpuncher139’s one amazing scene video where joker says, “news flash! You killed me!” If you want to hear a better version of what I said.
I like how in the arkham games you can be as clever as you want while fighting mobs of people, specially in this one since there's a lot of weapons. You don't have to resort to punches and kicks only.

Best comment on here. Nailed it.

Alex Love well Bruce Wayne isn't batman beyond though right?
Well at first he is. If you haven't seen the show, he builds the suit to keep up with criminals since he's getting old. But once his heart starts acting up, he has to quit. Then years later, Terry McGunnis takes over as the new Batman.

Now that he mentioned it, yeah.
Yeah I noticed that too. But everyone only remembers Spider-Man 2 for the web swinging
ikr
Dro'yla Jarhir The Feline Thief so the game plays you you don't play it?
Alex Love Also, he didn't "get rid" of Paul Dini, he just stopped writing Batman stories and the team continued.
No, he would've came back if Rocksteady had asked. They never approached him. I asked him on Twitter back when the game was announced.
Alex Love Really? Huh.
I always wondered why those Joker flashback segments are so out-of-nowhere and disconnected. Then I come to find out that Mark Hamill would only come back as the Joker if they reenacted a scene from The Killing Joke.

Boss Battles are medicore
No Fucking Co-Op I wanted to be Red hood or Nightwing
Batmobile being used for almost everything smfh man
This the kicker right Riddler still doing riddles I loved the robots though
Slade in a Tank battle a Tank!!!!!!!
Ikr..?! Finally, someone else who wanted a co-op! I prayed for a split-screen, but I got a Tank Simulator Bat-Mobile...
I wish they made another game. But, sadly, that may never happen.
@@gameree96 Did you hear the news.
I liked it. I just wish there was things to do after the story and the ability to play other characters in free roam.
Catwoman Agreed. Side missions get a bit boring and I wish two face had a longer story.
Grant Kelly they should’ve continued the rivalry between Catwoman and Two Face, better than that repetitive bank robbery mission, still fun tho
@@jacobvalerio5290 Those bank robberies were cool at first, but the final one where Two Face joins in was a huge let down. I ended up accidentally taking out Two Face by hacking the escalator, meaning to only take out one of his goons. I wanted to do something special with Two Face, or I thought he'd be a mini boss, but nope, the dude gets KO'd instantly. He was just another enemy NPC but with a different model and voice lines.
Roman Bellic the mission was fun, but I wish they could’ve done more with Two Face instead of having him be a side mission
He also used the scarecrow toxin to become a smarter Batman in the future Batman went into retirement and he hid his identity.
wdcain1 I disagree with 3
I disagree with 3.
Shit was too goddamn shiny in that game tho. Everything looked really slimy and metallic in a really odd way. Especially the characters. It was just grose looking.
This guy, this is what keeps me from pulling the trigger... And the fact that I'm not suicidal.
yurbuitifulquack Suicide is no laughing matter...
just joke about stds, cancer, and abortion like everyone else.

Arkhaminmate0801 uh, Paul Dini said he didn’t want to write the third game.
@@ComicWriter-ml3qt you sure about that?
J Jaden yes. I remember that being the first thing about this game that I didn’t like. It literally made me worried for the story of the game. He said he was willing to help in any other way with the game however
@@ComicWriter-ml3qt lol because of him we never get too fight death stroke again
At least there is a reference to him ingame. Opening cutscene dinner is named Paulis Dinner
Totally agree the bat mobile is used way to much in the game
your batman voice is on point....
I had a really nasty cold at the time, so that probably helped the Batman voice sound more gravelly.
GodzillaMendoza Same with me 😂. And I voice Batman on my channel and for some other people lol.
ThatRandomSpiderDude Ayyy, Its you
Arkham Knight made me appreciate Arkham Origins.
Collins Ongaya it wasn't bad but it could've been better
same. hated ao then ak came around
Ak is a good game. I dont care what anyone says
At least Origins had side missions that were worth a damn and actual boss fights unless you count the tank battles which I don't.
LMAO this shit is so corny...... ARKHAM KNIGHT is the best game next to CITY. stop being weirdos... or trying appeal to everyone with some "cool" opinion lmfao. only thing bad was the wack DLCsz.
This review did make me take a new view on Arkham Knight and all of its flaws. And that Riddler parody with the bike was hilarious
Yea, its not as perfect as the first two original games, but it is still a solid game, imo, and is worth buying and playing through to gain the finale of the beloved series...
@@Luke-xi2pq Hear hear.
0:06 what did he just say
The boss fights in this game were a big waste of potential and the batmobile was overused to a certain extent, but the combat, stealth and gameplay were executed pretty well. Mainly when you're not in the batmobile of course.
After the Suicide Squad game, Arkham Knight has officially become a perfect masterpiece. Yes you all heard me AND YOU CAN HEAR ME AGAIN *IN THE TANK!*
What’s worse the hush battle where you press one button and win or the slade battle where you fight a tank instead of slade
I’d say Slade, it’s almost like a 180 on the character. He went from a badass strategic fighter to a brute.
This dude sounds like cosmonaut variety hour LMAO

In AK, from watching Barbara die to finding out about Jason Todd and dealing with the effects of the Toxin his reactions are really dry and flat, there's was no sense of stress, grief, anger or that he was being pushed to the edge, driving that tank all night must really calm him down
😂👏
You're the only one unless this community is even more hater filled than I realize
Wait, I thought Roger Clark Smith was the voice of Batman in Origins
@@Ramen_Zombie He is
I think what makes him almost emotionless is the fact of what’s going on in his head and what happened to joker.
I remember when ak was announced... I was in elementary school all my friends thought it was deathstroke.
AND IF YOU HAVE TO USE THE BATHROOM!
DO IT IN THE TANK!-
Wait... Nvm.. Wrong tank.
I'm sure the batmobile has a mini bathroom in it.
10:30 this guy who played riddler in the skit looks like the actual riddler from The Batman (2022)
