Fuck man, the nostalgia. Opeth is one of the most under rated bands to ever exist. Even this massive crowd, doesnt do them justice. Fuckin pioneers with huge musical backgrounds over numerous genres, displayed in every album. Musicians like this just dont exist any more.
You think that, but when you are actually there in that moment, there is nothing but smiles. Nothing but absolutely pure, unadulterated, joy. I was at this show, and during this song I could do nothing but sing along and grin from ear to ear. I am not sure I have ever been happier in my life!
I have replayed 2:15-4:10 at least a hundred times since they've uploaded this video. The transition + the cable issue was epic as fuck. They deserve more credit for this.
Is great to see they don't edited the inconvenient that happened during the performance....Also, is great to see how everybody, especially Mike, keep calm while the tech guy repair the problem.....Great performance as always....
We get used to technical issues as musicians. These dudes have like 27+ years of experience. They always remain calm, no matter what. An inexperienced musician would freak out

Yeah I was at this show. The audience did not hear the clarity of this growling. I'd go as far as saying that this performance may have been dubbed for youtube/ the dvd.
Well, when Opeth tours they don't get much time off inbetween them. If he blows his vocal chords out on day one, the next show will be a really bad performance or outright impossible. So it seems that he's compromising the intensity a bit to sustain his voice throughout ALL of the shows. If he only had say one show a month, he might be willing to up the intensity back up to where he had it in his younger days.
TehSuperbeast I saw Opeth live 3 days ago and Mikael's growl was damn good. Better that ever. And that was a few days after he got sick! Damn impressive

You know, it's cool that he sang with that «anxious vibe». It only gives additional flavour to the drama of the song. Because drama is often close to something anxious.
Axe makes his performance sound and look easy. Complete fucking beast at the kit. Those snare rolls and double bass 16th notes (cant confirm exactly, but when he speeds up the pattern in the intro riff)

Their ability to work through a technical problem with professionalism is incredible. I feel lucky to have seen them live out here in Northern California.
It is admirabe on the part of mikael how at 02:35 he doesn´t lose his composure and after a few seconds he continues the show as if absolutely nothing had happened. Imagine the pressure of being a DVD recording, shit and keep the composure that way is a person with a lot of travel.
I really don't care that the growls are not the same as they used to. They are new, sound dark and evil (thats good). They are better now than a few years back. And lets talk about Mikael's clean vocals, they are AMAZING! I have never thought they were bad, but somehow it is getting better and better. All the instruments sounds really good! The organ at transition at 5:32 is so amazing! This song is so much better with synth/organ added. The audio engineers mixing this live show did a really good job. Will definitely buy this on vinyl.
His growls are quite better yes, but it's weird and out of place listening to those songs with this growls, since we know those are not what it should be on this song. Maybe if they wrote another death metal album that fits his present vocal style...

I've seen opeth live three times and it's always been flawless. Every DVD recording has an issue with the guits. That being said, they are pros and handle it as such. This is amazing.
Gave me goosebumps. God damn they never ever dissapoint. I've only gotten into them about 8 or so years ago, but i feel like I've known them my whole life. They have changed me in so many ways over the years and i consider them to be very therapeutic. I just get lost in their music and i just let go and let them take me on a journey through my mind. They have made me laugh and they have made me cry. They speak so deeply within me, almost as if they were meant to be in my life.

Many singers that growled for a long period are souding weaker when they grow older. I think its just normal. Voice change and if you can't accept that, you are in for a lot of bad surprises in the next few years haha ! I know it's hard to accept, but bands are made of people who are not frozen in time. They grow older, they change and the things you loved back then might be gone someday. It does not, however , erase what has been done in the past (at least from my point of view). I can enjoy what Opeth as become while also be amazed by the awesome music they've done before.
