I think I just watched that combo at least 100 times just to get it and let it sink in.

I think you are right, I've watched quite a few of his videos and I think his sequences are composed of building blocks that nearly always consist of a defensive move (or moves) followed by 2,3,2. By simply chaining the blocks together in different orders you get 95% of his combos (and those taught by Roger and Jeff as well). He then ends the combo with a few jabs. Some building blocks are
Catch, 2,3,2
Shoulder roll 2,3,2
pull, 2,3,2
slip both ways, duck, 2,3,2
parry jab, 2,3,2
So like you say in this case it was
3,2,
catch,2,3,2
shoulder roll, 2,3,2
slip both ways, duck/roll, 2,3,2
pull, 2,3,2
1,1,1,1
There are also building blocks for blocking the left hook, left and right body shots, parrying / catching the jab etc. That's how Roger used to do his continuous mitt work, because the building blocks were always the same.

My boxing coach models it after this, lots of 3s and 2s with defense and movement in between and usually 4-5 jab finish

For that person that called the mitt work Patty cake shit and said it wasn't effective in a boxing match, and said that it's just for show is a fucking idiot, it's great for timing muscle memory, reaction time, confuses of the other opponent, speed, endurance, builds confidence and not to mention last but not least used to make Floyd Jr. One of the greatest fighters to ever step in the ring!
