First of all just because both scopes are made in China does not that they are made with equal manufacturing techniques and materials. I have the very same CenterPoint. I shoot a lot and after using the CenterPoint for about 4 months, the adjustment turrets got loose and sloppy and the scope was not holding zero anymore, let alone track. I also have some Hawke, MTC, Aztec, and Athlon scopes that I had for years and they work just as well as when I first installed them on my rifles. Quality becomes apparent over time. You can also tell quality when you pick up a quality piece. Center Point is for casual shooter who keeps his rifle in the closet and brings her out once of twice per year!

Except it really isn't I've spent more on cheap ass scopes and ended up just buying one decent one. Clarity is one thing, but the holding zero and consistent clicks/values and adjustment range is a whole other thing. Especially when shooting longer range. Cheap 24x scopes have 36 MOA adjustment, meaning if you're shooting 100 yards with a .22lr you run out of adjustment and can't zero it without a 20 Moa mount. Mid range have 50-65 this Hawke probably have 80 ish with the zoom it has.

I think it’s probably down to its durability and build quality. I think the Hawke is fully waterproof, and either argon or nitrogen filled. Also, the reticle isn’t as detailed, for distance, shooting, as the Hawkes. It is nice they make cheap scopes, for novice shooters, though.😊
It would be very helpful to show the 2 views side by side for a direct comparison. Some still frames of several images would be nice too, especially if the gun were sitting in a rest, to avoid camera shake.
1. Thanks for the review 2. Many ppl have rings. They dont like to pay for new ones everytime they buy a new scope (dont imagine they come for FREE they are INCLUDED. 3. Clarity cant be the same. Thanks for reading. Ah. 6. Hawke covers with worldwide waranty EVERYTHING except theft and intentional damage. Would i pay 400? No. Just making a point. But if i went to some competition? Maybe.
One it’s 390 2 jt cuz you spend more doesn’t means it’s always gonna be the same they did that cuz not everyone is gonna use the mounts that come with the scope
Just checked it out. You failed to mention one really important point. Lifetime warranty! That's pretty hard to beat. I was a little soured on Centerpoint Scopes when I got one with a Walmart air rifle. Of course they have to give you the absolutely cheapest one they can make. So I discount that as not typical of their normal scope.
All lenses, no matter if they are scope lenses or camera lenses are at their best at only one distance and one setting.. 95% of my shooting is between 30 and 50 yards, occasionally 75 to 100 and rarely beyond 100.. So if a scope is clear for me between 30-50 yards, even if it only cost $40 that is the one I would use..
If you look in the distance past the 500yd light pole at the tree line you will see the difference in a $98 piece of glass compared to a $400 piece of glass. Not even comparable!
Most any scope looks good in bright sunlight. A low light test is where more expensive scopes pay off. That 300 might buy you a extra 4 or 5 minutes of shooting light. If you don’t need that, save your money.
Good video brother. But I'll stick to my Hawke scopes. I've never had any luck with Center points. But I'm sure there are some good ones out there. 95% of the Scopes made are from China.... And if they say American-made. I guarantee they probably have Chinese glass in them. Good video brother Shoot Straight stay blessed. 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸✌
Agreed, most scopes are made in China these days. Most glass is Chinese, some of the better ones use Japanese glass (Nikon, SWFA, etc). But I also would rather spend $X on a scope and have it all go into the scope rather than get "free" rings with it. I know who makes good rings and who doesn't.
Chinese glass? Leupold is the only company that's honest about it in saying that they have to use Chinese glass, because there's not a sufficient glass supply elsewhere in the world to even fill their orders! Sad, but I believe them.
Same factory? Who cares if it is even? I can make a turd or eggs and bacon. Clarity is a small portion. How's the rest compare? I had one $100 Chinese scope that had nice clarity and I sent it back cause it claimed to be gas purged and all yet it wasn't. The fast focus eye piece would completely unscrew right off even with no apparent seal. How's the turrets? Do they track? Can you test it for recoil etc? Clarity looks fine but I'm interested in more info if you got it. Thanks for the clarity comparison but it's pretty well meaningless without the rest.
I would say for the price difference the light transmission is better but not 4 times better. $ for $ if it lasts the less expensive optic might be the better value.
Center point is usable and certainly more than enough for Air rifles but once you get out to longer distances there is a BIG difference in optics. Also check the POA and POI in that Center Point after a few shots and then you’ll see where your money went. You get what you pay for. A lot of ppl spend more on optics than the gun
Think if you'd of set the camera up properly on the Hawke, instead of having it black out half the scope, set both reticles up so they wouldn't blur out, then you'd spot the Hawke would be much better optics. It was clear right from the beginning, that you were bias towards your cheap centerpoint.
With anything made in China, it will be as tight or as loose with specs and quality as the company its being made for dictates. If Fender wants a budget Squier guitar, that's what will be built. If Chapman wants a high end guitar, thats what they will built. Both will probably be built in the same factory. Some times you get more or less than you pay for depending on who the importer is. A 1x30 belt grinder sold by Harbor Freight is a better by than the one offered by Grizzly. They are the same machine, but Grizzly charges 2 or 3x more than HF.
I was trying to zero in my new AR15 SPR today with my brand new center point 3-12X44 scope and it seemed to be working really well until I took my last shot right when I thought it was finally zeroed in and it started shooting all over the place way to the left and I was extremely confused and about five shots later the rear lens completely cracked on me and I was extremely pissed. That was $90 out of my pocket down the drain. Never once in my life has a scope done that to me. Has anyone else had that problem with their center point 3-12X44 scope's. My dad has the same exact scope on his Remington BAR 270 deer rifle and he's never had that problem with his
Because of technology and use of robots, manufacturing is getting better world wide. I'm old enough to remember when MADE IN JAPAN was considered cheap crap. Now it is a sign of quality. Stuff made in China, with western supervision, is slowly turning the tide. I have several Leopold scopes, Bushnell, Barsika, and CP. I don't see much difference in any of them, not stuff that the general public would care about
Doing some research myself I hear a lot of trash talk on Center Point, MOST is Illogical my "friend" said or an "Uncle", Next logical question I do ask is You Ever had one? the stench and looks I get 99% have not ever owned one. And are basing an opinion on nothing, Yes the Hawk is a little clearer distance wise pushing out past 300 yards or so, Even then one must realize 99% of all Shots for game in America is no greater than 100-150 yards. ALL REALISM involved, $500 scope and hardware for "HUNTING" Be a NO!!, However YES if I were what is called "PRIZE SHOOTING" long distance for cash/bragging sure the Hawk would be ideal. But then again Hawk owner bad day, or sick that day and lost to a Center Point. I would not want to be that guy
..if you're use to cheap optics, you can't compare. Try shooting them at a target, at distance, you'll soon understand the what you're paying the extra for...
The majority of scopes world wide are manufactured in China, soma are exceptional quality and some are appalling. It's pointless having a scope ready to go if it's an appalling quality with poor tracking etc. Fortunately for yourself that wasn't the case.

Great vid......do you think a decent centerpoint scope would hold up to a fully tuned magnum .177 Springer???have ate 3 scopes in 4 months...
Thanks! The individual sold CP scopes are rated for spring Airguns ...my question is though what pellets are you shooting? Same ones or always switching reason I ask is cause I studied break barrel vibrations and found shooting low resistant pellets are what caused scope damage
@@STKO2011 I am using crosman piranha 10.5 grain.....they are shooting around 1100 fps on crono.....they very accurate in my gun....it is a crosman fire n.p.....I did a crap load of custom work to including custom GAS RAM....sanded barrel....cleaned up compression tube and barrel crown.....sanded seal...brass washers in barrel...r.c. bearing and screw in trigger....Moly grease...gun is a evil tack driver when it's not eating scopes....prob. shot 6000 plus rounds through it....looking for a bulletproof scope....lol

@@STKO2011 one piece mount....have been thinking bullseye mount....thanks for help...love the vids...watch all the time....keep them coming...D.
@@RAM-19 no problem!
I bought the center point scope. I agree there might not be much of a difference if the scope actually works properly! I bought mine directly from crosman Canada and the windage and vertical turret adjustments don't even work. Zero customer service and now I'm stuck with a piece of crap.
All I know is only time will tell in the Hawke Scopes have always been known for giving top performance and long-lasting they have might have better internal parts in the Hawke then the center point scope the center point scope might look good but it could easily fall apart if it's not made as well as a hawk I have always use Hawke Scopes and they have always worked well for me right out of the box
Great video thanks for the good job
Thanks for watching!
Nice Video James
Thanks Joe appreciate it!
@@STKO2011 Me and You good from Now in Bro !!!! Zero Doubt
I think the next step is, does it Hold and Track like Cyco Joe test them on his video ?
@@liquidsteel I wouldn't use it if it didn't....with the Centerpoint in the video I've split playing cards and bottle cap challenge @100yd with one shot from 22lr 10/22 so it definitely tracks and holds zero
I have a Center Point 3-12x44 MOA Lock Turret on my 30-06 and it shoots just fine
Depends on how much you shoot it and at what distances, if it’s a 3 shot per year hunting rifle, sure, it’s ok
When you shoot it, maybe you'll find a difference?
That Hawke is much clearer! But, $300 clearer I’m not sure. Thanks for the great video boss.
thanks for sharing your experience . i think i'll be getting that centerpoint for my 2001 diana 34 .177 . i already have the UTG drooper mount and weaver 30mm rings .
take care dude .
I noticed the Hawke had a battery compartment. Does it have an illuminated reticle? Either way, I cannot imagine that being worth 300 bucks LOL
The Hawke scope has an etched reticle and it does light up red and green.
I didn't go into too much of specifications...but like I mentioned in the video both are similar both have etched reticles
Thank you for this video. I am buying a Centerpoint 4-24×44 to play with at the range. I hope to ding steel at 500+ yrds, so thank you for confirming that a budget scope is just as good as the high dollar scopes.
Glad to help
Except it really isn't I've spent more on cheap ass scopes and ended up just buying one decent one. Clarity is one thing, but the holding zero and consistent clicks/values and adjustment range is a whole other thing.
Especially when shooting longer range.
Cheap 24x scopes have 36 MOA adjustment, meaning if you're shooting 100 yards with a .22lr you run out of adjustment and can't zero it without a 20 Moa mount. Mid range have 50-65 this Hawke probably have 80 ish with the zoom it has.
@@joshjamesguitar depends on the shooter, I'm not just the average either
@@STKO2011 Not really if the scope doesn't hold zero or have consistent clicks or a good adjustment range lol
@@joshjamesguitar ever thought maybe shooter error of it not holding zero? There's a big difference between knowing why it's not holding zero or just saying it's not...just because the shot/group isn't where you zeroed last doesnt really mean anything...alot of variables at play...cant, tilt , slant if you didn't measure...scope/eye alignment ...I can keep going but point is people say alot of things and I end up seeing what they're doing wrong ....I can also read targets and tell you why your group is doing what it's doing
JAMES ,LAST YEAR ,I WAS AT A WALMART SEVERAL CITIES FROM WHERE I LIVE ,I SAW THEY HAD 6 OR 7 OF THESE SCOPES ON CLEARANCE FOR 25 A PIECE SO I PICKED UP TWO OF THEM. I WENT HOME AND PICKED UP A FEW AIR RIFLES AND WENT TO MY FAVORITE SPOT !!! ,AFTER QUICKLY ZEROING THE TWO SCOPES SEVERAL TIMES ON DIFFERENT AIR RIFLES I FELT SO BAD I DIDNT PICK THEM UP LOL . THESE SCOPES OR REAL NICE AND CROSMAN LATER HAD THEM FOR 150 ON THEIR SITES ! WELL LONG STORY SHORT ,I WENT BACK A FEW DAYS LATER TO HOPEFULLY GET THE REST AND THEY WERE GONE !!!!!!!!!!!
Problem is with both of these is durability. How do they stand up in a truck or car on a gravel or dirt road. Quality is key. In any scope.
Both nice scoops. I have never had any issues with Center Point to be honest.
Thanks!
It would be very helpful to show the 2 views side by side for a direct comparison. Some still frames of several images would be nice too, especially if the gun were sitting in a rest, to avoid camera shake.
Great ideas.
1. Thanks for the review
2. Many ppl have rings. They dont like to pay for new ones everytime they buy a new scope (dont imagine they come for FREE they are INCLUDED.
3. Clarity cant be the same. Hawke is expensive EXCEPT for vantage series but they have awesome tracking and awesome glass.
4. You need a better camera sorry i know its expensive and everyone is on a budget.
5. Thanks for reading.
Ah. 6. Hawke covers with worldwide waranty EVERYTHING except theft and intentional damage.
Would i pay 400? No. Just making a point. But if i went to some competition? Maybe.
Thanks you help me pick my scope
Thanks for watching!
Which one comes with rings?
The center point
Cool that CenterPoint sent you a Hawke scope to review 😂
Actually Airgun Depot sent it me for making 381yd shot offhand which according to Travis's email it's the longest shot taken with an Umarex Gauntlet
Do you know the twist rate of the Umarex gauntlet in 25 caliber
One it’s 390 2 jt cuz you spend more doesn’t means it’s always gonna be the same they did that cuz not everyone is gonna use the mounts that come with the scope
Just checked it out. You failed to mention one really important point. Lifetime warranty! That's pretty hard to beat.
I was a little soured on Centerpoint Scopes when I got one with a Walmart air rifle. Of course they have to give you the absolutely cheapest one they can make. So I discount that as not typical of their normal scope.
Yeah the bundled scopes definitely don't justify their better scopes
All lenses, no matter if they are scope lenses or camera lenses are at their best at only one distance and one setting.. 95% of my shooting is between 30 and 50 yards, occasionally 75 to 100 and rarely beyond 100.. So if a scope is clear for me between 30-50 yards, even if it only cost $40 that is the one I would use..
If you look in the distance past the 500yd light pole at the tree line you will see the difference in a $98 piece of glass compared to a $400 piece of glass. Not even comparable!
Correction...6-24×44!
Most any scope looks good in bright sunlight. A low light test is where more expensive scopes pay off. That 300 might buy you a extra 4 or 5 minutes of shooting light. If you don’t need that, save your money.
I'm almost convinced this in an ad for Chinese Manufacturing, given how many time you've said 'Made in China'.
I have a
CenterPoint 3-9x40AO illuminated Mil-Dot
And a
Hawke 3-9x40AO Mil-Dot
I paid a little over $100 for each
IMO, the Hawke is the better scope.
@@Fister_of_Muppets I definitely agree brother.👍🇺🇸✌
Thanks...I just looked up my other scopes and my Nikon Prostaff is from Phillipines and Bushnell Trophy is from North Korea
@@STKO2011 But the glass in the Nikon is imported from Japan. Not sure about the Bushnell, possibly Chinese glass. Still good though.
Chinese glass? Leupold is the only company that's honest about it in saying that they have to use Chinese glass, because there's not a sufficient glass supply elsewhere in the world to even fill their orders! Sad, but I believe them.
Despite the clarity, the Centerpoint drifts when used on an actual firearm. Mine is going in the bin. Going with a trusted brand.
Thanks for the clarity comparison but it's pretty well meaningless without the rest.
huge difference lol.. the hawk is crystal clear compared to the other. you must need glasses
I would say for the price difference the light transmission is better but not 4 times better. $ for $ if it lasts the less expensive optic might be the better value.
No kidding. I dang near lost it when he said the cheap scope was crystal clear. Do you still believe the Easter bunny lays colored eggs?
Center point is usable and certainly more than enough for Air rifles but once you get out to longer distances there is a BIG difference in optics. Also check the POA and POI in that Center Point after a few shots and then you’ll see where your money went. You get what you pay for. A lot of ppl spend more on optics than the gun
Think if you'd of set the camera up properly on the Hawke, instead of having it black out half the scope, set both reticles up so they wouldn't blur out, then you'd spot the Hawke would be much better optics.
It was clear right from the beginning, that you were bias towards your cheap centerpoint.
I agree with you Darren, he does not know how to use the Hawke. I have a Bushnell and a Hawke of similar specs. I now buy Hawkes for my rifles.
The view from my Volkswagen is no worse than the view from my Ferrari
I guess that means the Volkswagen is better as it’s cheaper right?
Hawk is a pretty good grown-up adult scope.centerpoint is some cheap garbage that Walmart sells mostly for BB guns and airsoft
I guess you aren't sponsored by Hawk!😎😎😎😎
The Hawke scope was way clearer.
Hawke compact 3-12x40 $420 you been conned $180 in wall mart
With anything made in China, it will be as tight or as loose with specs and quality as the company its being made for dictates. If Fender wants a budget Squier guitar, that's what will be built. If Chapman wants a high end guitar, thats what they will built. Both will probably be built in the same factory. Some times you get more or less than you pay for depending on who the importer is. A 1x30 belt grinder sold by Harbor Freight is a better by than the one offered by Grizzly. They are the same machine, but Grizzly charges 2 or 3x more than HF.
Good comparison Jimmy in other words don't waste your money !!!
Thanks Tim!
My dad has the same exact scope on his Remington BAR 270 deer rifle and he's never had that problem with his
👍
Yeah, but compare them in low light. I betting the hawke does better.
I don't see much difference in any of them, not stuff that the general public would care about
yep!
Thumbs down as you forgot to mention 🤷♂️
The Hawke is Rimfire and Airgun recoil proofed the CP is for pcp only
Plastic centerpoint vs aircraft grade aluminum hawke. Hmmmmm.
both are aircraft aluminum hmmmm....
It is comparing. Harley to Honda they both get your ass where your going. Ill stick with cheaper thanks.
It looks like the 400 dollar one is worse than the center point
I thought the hawk looked far better
Guess I should throw away my nightforce nxs and go get me a CenterPoint lolololol
I hate to bust your bubble but unless you spend over 1,000 dollars your scope is made in china
I use them on my muzzleloader and shotguns
I think u should of spend $500 and bought vortex and be done with it
It's like the difference of watching TCL and Samsung. 😏 That's why I bought a TCL for half the price.
👍👍👍✌
..if you're use to cheap optics, you can't compare.
Why you aim on a road, there are cars.. omg? ...blame
