Beau your videos have encouraged me in the last couple of months. I'm walking through a rough season in my marriage. Thank you for making these videos. I really value what you are doing. - Casey
I wanted to thank you for this video. I used this method just now on a rebind of an LSB hardback in Horween leather. I already loved this rebind but it is now by far my favorite Bible, no comparison. this broken in Horween is so different than any leather on any Bible I have ever owned, nothing comes close. And the leather smell, awesome! It just breaks in so nicely and so uniquely to any other leather I have handled. Thanks for all your video work!!
I have started to fall in love again with the Omega after getting the Horween! I love the Horween edition! I’m loving watching it start to break in. I’ll try this technique. Thank you for the video.
Excellent tutorial. Very similar to how I broke in my ironed calfskin. With exception of rolling the pages of the half not being read. Once again, thank you for guidance and sharing your love for The Word.
I broke in my horween omega like you did and it feels so good to hold & read. No regrets accelerating the process! I haven’t done it to my heritage because it’s a chunky bible and I want to keep it a little stiffer.
My Horween Omega is breaking in nicely with using it naturally but I think I may give it a few minutes of this technique on both sides to expedite the process. Thanks, Beau!
If God-willing that I could get my hands on this one, the breaking-in would be a great adfitional reward (the great benefit is getting to read His word of course!) of habitually picking up my Bible to read it daily.
Fantastic video! Unfortunately I did not get an opportunity to purchase a Horween edition before they sold out. I had a decent quality Horween leather phone case a couple of years ago and I loved the patina it developed after much use. Definitely would have liked to use a Horween Bible and break that leather in. Your Omega is coming along nicely I see. I may try your break-in technique on the new black calfskin Cambridge Diadem that I recently picked up.
Beautiful Bibles, Beau! That break in process is similar to what I've done with my Travelers Notebook covers. That distressed look is very nice. Thanks for the quality videos!
AHHH - that rolling over looks so destructive. I just purchased a brand new heirloom leather Bible and I want to do the right thing. Are you sure this is the right thing? Thanks. What about the pages and spine break in (like some library book videos demonstrate) ?
Step 1: You have to own a Horween Bible. I love the "Two Dislikes" comment to cancel it out haha. In all seriousness, do you think breaking it in this way removes some of the "personalized" feel of the patina since it's not just from use/your hand?
It could, but, breaking in the cover in this manner will be more even and well distributed instead of just sections of the front and back breaking in at the stress points while the rest doesn't. But, that's a good point.
Great video - a fun, if slightly scary, watch! lol. I have a 'She Reads Truth' Bible in genuine leather that looks a similar type of leather as it has wrinkled and patina-ed over time. I don't think it is anywhere near the quality as the Horween, so I'm not sure I want to try rolling it...!?????? 🤔😁
Haha if I got a horween I’d def just want it to break in naturally (naturally meaning I’d be playing with the leather constantly anyways as I’m using it or holding it 😂).. but if I got 2…
Ha watching this video gave me anxiety, 😆 WHAT are you doing to that beautiful leather!!! I think I can only use this technique if I have two copies just in case. 😅 I mean it is a great tip! But I need to process first. 🤣
Oh c'mon bro .. if you will just unwind n let go of your tense obsession of perfectly immaculate bibles and start using them heavily (not abuse but good solid use) you will rise to a whole other level of loving your bibles.. trust me, been there done that with "perfect" bibles .. once I released myself from that level, wow what freedom to just fully love bibles.. Ok ok, I am saying all this jokingly cause I truly don't mean to run you over .. But it really is true what I'm saying
There are videos all about the company called Horween, who are in Chicago, showing their process of tanning hides. This Hoween leather on my bible, Omega, is called Chrome CXL.
Very true. But sometimes, for those of us that have dozens of bibles we enjoy using in rotation, breaking in a Horween cover may take months or years and with this process, folks can enjoy the broken in experience much sooner... But yes, thank you for the insight.
This makes me cringe. You’re ripping the glue holding together the cover and liner, separating the cover from the liner by doing this. The wrinkles in particular identify the location of damage. That cover will fall apart in about 2-3 years.
Thank you for the break-in tip. It was hard to do but my Legacy is feeling pretty awesome!

The production value is just heads above all the other Bible book videos out there.
Awesome tip! I was just saved last Dec and know nothing about leather Bible care

What a beautiful Bible. Thank you for the video
That's basically what I did to mine as soon as I received it. Thanks for sharing!
I've been doing this for a while now to my Omega and really like how flexible its getting!
I love how you synchronized the back side break-in timelapse to the music. It was cool and a bit funny lol. Awesomeness.
We just tried it! Wish I could post a pic. We only did it a couple times and can already tell the difference.
This works on other hides well too. I got great results with a rustic cowhide and the pull-up cowhide.
Thank you for putting this out there. Great advice!
Thanks Beau! For taking the time to show us this. Now--if I ever find (and can afford) a Horween....I'll remember this! Thanks

Thank you, Beau. The Horween leather is beautiful.
Thanks Beau what a gorgeous bible. I'm super impressed how lucious that leather looks
Wow you got the fastest hands in the business. Hahahaha loved the video brother!!!!
It really looks great broken in
I broke in my horween omega like you did and it feels so good to hold & read. No regrets accelerating the process! I haven’t done it to my heritage because it’s a chunky bible and I want to keep it a little stiffer.
I love the time lapse portions! Good work as always.
Thanks for your videos. Looking forward to future videos of how the Horween Omega wears.
My Horween Omega is breaking in nicely with using it naturally but I think I may give it a few minutes of this technique on both sides to expedite the process. Thanks, Beau!
Great stuff Beau!!
Awesome video!! As I was watching the video, I got curious as to if there is a technique that I can use to break in a leathersoft cover Bible…
If God-willing that I could get my hands on this one, the breaking-in would be a great adfitional reward (the great benefit is getting to read His word of course!) of habitually picking up my Bible to read it daily.

Exactly what I needed to see! Thanks for demonstrating
That’s awesome! Now, all I need is an ESV Horween Bible…

@@BeauTate That makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to reply!
Thank you Beau
Bible production is truly incredible now. Would love to see this on their wide margin. Take my money..
So scared to try this, but here we go!
Fantastic tutorial, makes me really wish I would have purchased a Heritage when they were on sale at Crossway during the holidays
Great tips! I’ve even done a similar thing to some of my goatskin/regular cowhide bibles. It’s a great way to break in a stiff cover.
I can’t believe I won!!! Thanks for choosing your Beau! I don’t hav your e-mail so I sent you a FB message. Thanks and God bless!
Hi Beau love your channel ❤
Best way to break them In .... read it ! 😁
Interesting, but what is your opinion on the ESV and how accurate is it?
Great video on breaking those in!
I’ve got one of these on the way! Nice tutorial 😊
Hey man great video, thank you
Excellent tutorial!
I may try this on my goatskin cover
what exactly is horween leather? Also, is this something you need to do on all leather bibles? or just Horween?
Great video. Will this method work with goatskin Bibles? Is it recommended to do something like this to a goatskin Bible like a Schuyler?
Friends of mine have reported that this method really works will with goatskin, cowhide and calfskin covers as well.
@@BeauTate that’s great to know and I will try it. Thank you.
No thanks, Beau, I'm using mine like any of my premium bibles and will enjoy seeing what happens over time! I'm in no rush at all.
Wow… want to see how the Horween editions will look like in two years
Really good to know!!!!
good advice.

Bucket list item- meet mr. Beau tate and talk to him about bibles

Two dislikes 😆 That's brilliant! Great video, Beau; thanks!
I've called the police. I reported Horween assault. 😐 I almost don't wanna use my Horween just to keep it fresh. I love that thick waxy look 😍

@@sylviafriessen9124 I actually just did the technique in the video and I'm thankful I did. So much nicer 😍
Thanks for showing how to break in the Horween, but man, that was difficult to watch. Haha
What is Horween Leather?

How to break in your Bible. Read it ;)

I trust you, but the breaking in was painful to watch!
This makes me cringe. You’re ripping the glue holding together the cover and liner, separating the cover from the liner by doing this. The wrinkles in particular identify the location of damage. That cover will fall apart in about 2-3 years.
Incorrect. That glue doesn't come apart that easily.
Why? 😢
